  • Currently, web syndication is usually utilized in desktop environments, but not considering mobile environments. In this paper, we focus on the extension of the desktop based web syndication to the mobile internet. Simply adapting the desktop based web syndication to mobile devices can cause high wireless internet communication cost. We propose PMS(Proxy-based Mobile Syndication) model which achieves low cost mobile syndication. In the PMS model, MWProxy is defined as a proxy server between mobile devices and web sites. It can reduce the communication cost by peeking up modified items from the web sites and reducing the channel size. In this paper, we designed and implemented the PMS system in a mobile phone and evaluated the performance of the PMS system by conducting real experiments using mobile emulators.

  • Screen splitting is one of the fundamental tasks in different methods including video and image compression, screen classification, screen content coding and the like. These methods in turn support various applications in data communications, remote screen sharing, remote desktop delivery to assist teaching-learning, telemedicine, Desktop as a Service etc. In the literature we find systems requiring splitting assumes a fixed size split that do not change dynamically, also there is no analysis why that split is chosen in terms of performance. By doing mathematical analysis this paper first finds the efficient splitting schemes that can be easily automated to make a system adaptive. Thereafter, taking the screen motion detection as a case study, it demonstrates the effects of various splitting methods on motion detection performance. The simulation results clearly shows how classification performances varies with different splitting which will facilitate to choose the best splitting for a specific application scenario as well as making the system adaptive by providing dynamic splitting.

  • Development of information and communication technologies has given a lot of changes in the business processing methods including the school and class managements. However, many business processing systems are still based on desktop computer. In particular, most of the class management system only supports desktop computers; hence school teachers have difficulty in using their class managements systems on mobile environment. In this paper, we proposed and developed a mobile classroom management system for teachers, which will easily handle information such as personal records of students, student counseling records, student life record and so on. The implementation of the application of mobile-based class management can be managed by many school elements including student register information, student evaluation records and transcripts, counseling report, and so on.

  • Stick-PC is small and portable, So it can be used like a desktop if you connect it to a display device such as a monitor or TV anytime and anywhere. Accordingly, Stick-PC can related to various crimes, and various evidence may remain. Stick-PC uses the same Windows version of the operating system as the regular Desktop, the artifacts to be analyzed are the same. However, unlike the Desktop, it can be used as a meaningful information for forensic investigation if it is possible to identify the actual user and trace the usage by finding the traces of peripheral devices before analyzing the system due to the mobility. In this paper, We presents a method of collecting images using Bootable OS, which is one of the image collection methods of Stick-PC. In addition, we show how to analyze the trace of peripheral connection and network connection trace such as Display, Bluetooth through the registry and event log, and suggest the application method from the forensic point of view through experimental scenario.

  • Load Duration Curve (LDC) can be used as a method for load management of point and non-point pollution source because the LDC easily assesses the water quality corresponding to hydrological changes in a watershed. Recently, the application of LDC to total pollution load management is a growing interest in Korea. In this regard, A desktop-based LDC assessment system was developed in this study to provide convenience to users in water quality evaluation. The developed system can simply produce the LDC by using streamflow and water quality data involved in its database. Also, The system can quantitatively inform the success or failure of the achievement for a target water quality at monthly scale. Furthermore, seasonal water quality and point/non-point pollution load in a watershed can be estimated by this system. We expect that the developed system will contribute to establish local and national policies regarding water management and total pollution load management because of its advantages such as the pollution tracking investigation and the analysis of water quality and pollution loading amount in an ungauged watershed.

  • As web based software has developed recently, service via web has increased gradually. For this, many research organizations and reports call web is the platform of software. While web based technologies have developed, middleware of WSN and its application service has been developed from desktop based operation system. So WSN's technology reached uppermost limit of desktop application. There's difficulty in integrating, distributing and maintaining & repairing for WSN due to a tightly-coupled structure which's related closely to the hardware of sensor nod. Unlike this, web has a loosely-coupled structure and an opened system, so web service or Rich internet application (RIA) is helpful to solve the above limits. Especially, RIA is web application but can be the platform of WSN' application because it gives us various methods to communicate with user interface similar to desktop application. In this study, I suggest Message System for WSN Using RIA, expanding WSN's interconnectedness and accessibility to internet.

  • The Linux operating system is expanding to include desktops and servers, as well as mobile devices, automobiles and embedded devices, and is the dominant operating system category because it is freely available and open source software. However, the desktop market is dominated by Microsoft's Windows, and Apple's Mac OS is increasingly dominated by enthusiasts, but Linux's growth is stagnant. An important element to make up for this deficiency is the X Window System. Most Linux distributions still use the traditional X.org server as the X Window System, but it is heavy and slow. To replace it, a new X window system called Wayland emerged. Wayland is small and light enough to fit on an embedded or mobile device, so it can be mounted on the IoT related device as well as on the desktop. With the advent of Wayland, the change in the X window will accelerate the popularization of Linux.

  • This research presents a joining system that changes an irregularly shaped material into a member that can be joined and disassembled as a single unit by attaching 3D printed joints. In extreme environments, including extraterrestrial environments, it takes much time and costs to supply materials from Earth. In addition, when living and working in such environments for long periods, a technology enabling the use of locally accessible materials or elements brought to the site for different purposes is essential to realize the construction based on the idea of In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU). This research proposes a joining system inspired by the traditional Japanese wooden joinery Kigumi. By integrating Kigumi's excellent features, such as high construction performance, disassemble performance, and mechanical performance, with 3D printing and 3D scanning technologies, the proposed joining system aims to enable irregular-shaped elements to be assembled and disassembled from one another without any fasteners (e.g., bolts, nails, and adhesive). Prototypes of the proposed joints, which apply the Japanese Koshikake-Ari-Tsugi technique, were printed by an additive manufacturing-type desktop 3D printer, then the investigation focused on determining the optimal clearance for the joint. Based on the results, a simple mockup was constructed. Its constructability and mechanical performance were examined. The findings revealed that the joints applying the traditional Japanese Kigumi were printable by the additive manufacturing-type desktop 3D-printer with proper clearance settings, and the proposed joining system shows high performance in construction, including disassembly. The findings provide insights into the feasibility of desktop 3D printing construction in extreme environments.

  • We have developed a compact desktop-sized nanopatterning system driven by the Roll-to-Roll (R2R) nanoimprinting (NIL) principle. The system realizes the continuous and high-speed stamping of various nanoscale patterns on a large-area flexible substrate without resorting to ponderous and complicated instruments. We first lay out the process principle based on continuous NIL on a UV-curable resin layer using a flexible nanopatterned mold. We then create conceptual and specific designs for the system by focusing on two key processes, imprinting and UV curing, which are performed in a continuous R2R fashion. We build a system with essential components and optimized modules for imprinting, UV curing, and R2R conveying to enable simple but effective nanopatterning within the desktop volume. Finally, we demonstrate several nanopatterning results such as nanolines and nanodots, which are obtained by operating the built desktop R2R NIL system on transparent and flexible substrates. Our system may be further utilized in the scalable fabrication of diverse flexible nanopatterns for many functional applications in optics, photonics, sensors, and energy harvesters.
