  • In this paper, we present a design for URC (Ubiquitous Robotics Companion) robot S/W platform. The URC robot S/W platform is based on the Qplus/Esto which is developing in ETRI and applied for URC robot reference S/W platform that we use it in case of many different robots with same interface. We expect the platform to save the developing time, to improve the compatibility and to reuse the developed contents.

  • The objective of this paper is to systematically establish the development of game software through the fusion of game implementation and component methodology. The development of game software has inconsistently accomplished without the consistent frame for the analysis and design of game development in the domestic environments. Therefore in case of the development of game software based on game component, although a lot of resources were required in the initial the accumulation of experience and the technology of reuse lead to the efficiency of the maintenance ultimately.

Database and knowledge-base for supporting distributed intelligent product design

  • This research presents distributed database and knowledge-base modeling approach for intelligent product design system. The product design information in this study is described by a collection of rules and design knowledge that are utilized according to the product development procedures. In this work, a network-based architecture has been developed to enable dispersed designers to simultaneously accomplish remote design tasks. A client/server communication diagram has also been proposed to facilitate consistent primary information modeling for multi-user access and reuse of designed results. An intelligent product design system has been studied with the concepts of distributed database and network-based architecture in order to support concurrent engineering design and automatic design part assembly. The system provides the capability of composing new designs from proper design elements stored in the database and knowledge-base. The distributed intelligent product design is applied to the design of an automobile part as an example.

  • Reusing IPs requires interface protocol related tasks such as writing test benches and designing interface protocol conversion circuits, e.g. wrappers for IPs. The results of those tasks usually include IPC(interface protocol component)s for the corresponding IPs, similar to bus protocol components of the bus functional models. This paper proposes a methodology for the interface circuit design using synthesizable In that can be re-used. IPC recognizes or executes transactions over the given interface ports. So we present a transaction-oriented interface protocol description language, and a method to convert the description into an IPC in synthesizable VHDL code. With experiments, we show that the interface design using IPC does not cause significant area overhead compared with the interface design without IPC. The proposed IPC-based approach can be employed to reduce the interface design time since the designers can reuse IPCs without understanding the detailed interface protocols.

  • This paper describes the application of the three sustainable design elements for a residential project in the county of Los Angeles, USA. The first design element is the green building design in which a base model will be created using the Autodesk REVIT MEP program for the analysis by Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the energy analysis modeling process to determine the energy savings for each of the recommended design features. The second element is the Low Impact Development design for the site design using specialty material and structural devices for infiltration and recycling of storm water for reuse. The third element is the application of drought tolerant plant species in the site's landscaping design as a means to conserve water. The construction cost associated with the application of these three elements will be reviewed to determine the practicality and effectiveness of this sustainable design approach.

  • Similarity assessment of a CAD model is one of important issues from the aspect of model re-using. In real practice, many new mechanical parts are designed by modifying existing ones. The reuse of part enables to save design time and efforts for the designers. Design time would be further reduced if there were an efficient way to search for existing similar designs. This paper proposes an efficient algorithm of similarity assessment for mechanical part model with design history embedded within the CAD model. Since it is possible to retrieve the design history and detailed-feature information using CAD API, we can obtain an accurate and reliable assessment result. For our purpose, our assessment algorithm can be divided by two: (1) we select suitable parts by comparing MSG (Model Signature Graph) extracted from a base feature of the required model; (2) detailed-features' similarities are assessed with their own attributes and reference structures. In addition, we also propose a indexing method for managing a model database in the last part of this article.

  • It was expressed repeated information on reuse design pattern in the design information because it was impossible to build a standardized design pattern in the existing design pattern tools. Also, It must possible to extend standardized design pattern just as one intended of designer. And It is able to express objects just as one intended of designer. Therefore, the representative characteristic of this paper was able to define XMI metamodel to express design pattern, and was able to extend metamodel to express design pattern.

  • The harness design process consists of repetitious routines to decide the wire configuration in its interior. A slight change in one of the wire's configuration will require a total reconfiguration of the entire wire system. Therefore, the harness design is extremely time consuming and is vulnerable to human errors by an engineer. Based on both electrical and mechanical area, Wiring Harness system is in complicated area. Existing systems are, therefore, not exactly suitable for practical use. This paper presents a novel framework for ameliorating existing system's defects. In this paper, Visio and Visual Basic was interfaced to process wire bundle information and wire bundle location to alleviate problems mentioned beforehand concerning harness design; at the same time developing the automation of the entire design process based on the feature based design method, optional print, and management of documents for reuse.

Improving the Interoperability of Mechanical Design Data using XML and Ontology (XML과 온톨로지를 이용한 공학 설계 데이터의 상호운용성 증진에 관한 연구)

  • As the complexity of engineering design environment has been increased, it becomes difficult to exchange design data among design support systems. The purpose of this paper is to develop the XML-based Generalized Mechanical Data Exchange Formats(GMDEF) independent of specific mechanical element and to improve the interoperability of them using ontology, in order to integrate diverse design data and facilitate communication between design support systems. GMDEF consists of PartDoc and AssemblyDoc. PartDoc represents the information of a single part. AssemblyDoc represents the relation of parts composing an assembly. GMDEF is validated by GMDEF Schema. GMDEF Schema consists of separated XML Schemas and has flexible architecture to facilitate extension. The ontology is applied to GMDEF Schema to share and reuse vocabularies of specific mechanical elements.
