Design of robust servo systems and application to control of training simulator for radio-controlled helicopter (강인한 서보계설계와 R/C헬리콥터 트레이닝 시뮬레이터 제어에의 응용)

  • In this paper, a new construction for training simulator of R/C helicopter based on two types of servo controller is proposed. Two modified algorithms (algorithm I and II) for servo controller design are presented. Algorithm I is developed by adopting Davison's method in the case that the expressions for the homogeneous differential equations of reference input and disturbance are different types, and algorithm II is done by considering error weighting function for the servo controller of algorithm I . The linear fractional transformation method is incorporated in both design methods in order to assign the closed loop poles of the servo system in a specified region. The helicopter simulator is composed by the gimbals with two freedom of rolling and pitching. The reliability and validity for the design methods of the proposed servo controller are investigated through the practical experiment for the simulator by using 16bits micro-computer with A/D and D/A converters. It can be observered from the experimental results that the proposed servo controller is applicable to practical plants since the simulator is robust for the arbitrary disturbance and it follows to the given reference input without significant steady state error.

  • The recent innovations in technoscience have changed the patterns of everyday lives for women and their politics of identity. Among the various debates on a women's relationship to technoscience, Donna J. Haraway's theory of the cyborg has been one of the most influential, as it provides new modes of conceiving subjectivity as well as new notions of women's shared experiences. For Haraway, the cyborg is an image of a female subject that will lead the future of science and technology as an amalgamation of non-hierarchical differences. This study examines the characteristics and meanings for the distortion, anti-aesthetic body, and clothing in fashion design through the cyborg feminism theory. Characteristics and meanings of the cyborg in fashion designs find their expression through mechanical images, distorted physical transformations, reconstruction of a destructed body, expression of an anatomical and heterogeneous body, and the persona image. Such expressions are not simply an act of distorting and destroying a body image but extending the category of a body, but of going beyond the limit of a real body and create a new body.

  • In this study, the concept of environmental-friendly architecture, where environment is importantly regarded as a design concept in modern architecture and the meaning of boundary are examined, To apply properly design methodologies along with the importance of environment, the concept of environmental-friendly architecture should be first correctly established. And as the recent rapid development of technologies provides new possibilities for environmentally-friendly architecture, it is needed to have a new boundary concept and the interpretation of the meaning of boundary differentiated from the one of existing architecture. Recently the meaning of boundary is expanding its range to the relations with its neighboring environment beyond the relations with in and out of a space and has also the role as a medium for exchange and communication instead of breaking-off. Therefore, the boundary of environmental-friendly architecture alongside physical boundary is extended to the area for communication. Here, a basic boundary of architecture is maintained, but its meaning and expressions get natural shapes. The study deals with the analysis of the concept of environmental-friendly architecture and its changes from the perspective of times, environment and social backgrounds and seeks its appropriateness centered on environmental-friendly architecture Since 1980s when the issues of human and environment were raised in earnest.

  • Baroque period was fundamentally different from the previous ages in terms of various aspects. Not only the social, economical, and cultural changes, but also ways of experiencing architectural space were essentially changed. Space in Baroque architecture was no more confined in the strict medieval order and proportions, but it became more flexible and dynamic by applying many interesting spatial concepts as well as design methods. That is why Baroque architecture somehow has been re-considered in the present time. Various contemporary architects and theorists attempt to apply ideas in the Baroque architecture to enhance and rich spatial experience. This thesis aims to study the methods of constructing spatial depth in some of Baroque architecture. First of all, theoretical research on the Baroque art in terms of depth expressions compared to the previous ages based on Heinrich $W{\ddot{o}}lfflin$ was mentioned. After explaining the general concepts and methods of spatial depth in Baroque architecture, two case buildings were selected to be further analyzed. They are San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane and Cappella di Santissima Sindone. They have unique ways of expressing the spatial depth in which people experience particular spatial feelings. Based on the case analysis, this study was concluded that the ideas as well as design methods for spatial depth can be applied in contemporary architectural designs in various ways.

  • This study is on the esthetic characteristics of Christian Lacroix's haute couture works. The materials for the study are the precedent studies, the related literature, and the photographs of the works and the interview articles in fashion journal at home and abroad. The result of this study were finds three esthetic characteristics in his works and fashion philosophy; historic, ethnic, and hybrid sense. First, the historic sense, Christian Lacroix's biggest characteristic, is influenced by his major studies, but is not a revival from the past itself but a new characteristic based on borrowing and reinterpreting the images created by introducing and compromising the historic elements. Second, the ethnic sense is influenced by the growing background in his childhood and can be characterized as compromise among the multi-national design features. It is certified by the contrasting images, styles, expressions, materials, ornament elements, and so forth with the worldwide ethnic senses centered by the southern France and Spain. Third, the hybrid sense as the essential characteristic shows the uniqueness in his design by not only combining the modern materials, technologies, and futuristic emotion but also liberally compromising and associating the emotions based on a mixture among the follows; the historic representative styles, the foreign materials, the diversity between the Eastern and Western culture, and all elements, details, trimmings In the fashion design.

  • This study describes the XML-based digitalization of structural design sheets for RC buildings to exchange on the web. For this purpose, first, the data structure of XML document that represents the structural design skeets, including mathematical expressions and graphics that cannot be easily exchanged on the web, is defined. Then, the presentation of the XML documents on the web is discussed. The prototype that facilitates the web-based exchange of the XML documents we developed and the feasibility of the results of this study is discussed.

  • If we consider the origins of new architectural language in Russian, as opposed to its social dimensions, then we are looking at quite another area of pre-Revolutionary activity: art. It was Tatlin's early ‘counter-reliefs’ which first explored the way new materials might generate new artistic form. The Basis of his art is collage and the reality of materials. In 1915, he exhibited the first of his ‘counter-reliefs’, casual montages of pieces of metal that invade the space around them, making the decomposition of the forms three-dimensional. What is not in doubt is the primacy of materials in Tatlin's art. He was a key figure in the transition from art towards design and ‘construction’, the last was accomplished with ‘real materials in real space.’After the October Revolution, one of the central myths of avant-garde was the realization of a total work of art. The progress has developed in the directions to an unprecedented creative realm, situated somewhere between painting and architecture in the post-revolutionary period. Paramount among such pioneer works was Tatlin's design for a monument to the Third International in 1919. Here In an artistic form, his investigation of ‘material, volume and construction’ was clearly embodied. In the comtemporary architecture, Tatlin's concept has been a great influence on the various tendencies of spatial expressions. For example, the architecture with concept of ex-formality has many varied aspects of space composition - dynamic forms with plasticity of concrete, ex-cubic composition with free walls, disposal composition by geometric collision and superimposition, and etc.

Point load actuation on plate structures based on triangular piezoelectric patches

  • This paper investigates the design of a perfect point load actuator based on flat triangular piezoelectric patches. Applying a difference of electric potential between the electrodes of a triangular patch leads to point loads at the tips and distributed moments along the edges of the electrodes. The previously derived analytical expressions of these forces show that they depend on two factors: the width over height (b/l) ratio of the triangle, and the ratio of the in-plane piezoelectric properties ($e_{31}/e_{32}$) of the active layer of the piezoelectric patch. In this paper, it is shown that by a proper choice of b/l and of the piezoelectric properties, the moments can be cancelled, so that if one side of the triangle is clamped, a perfect point load actuation can be achieved. This requires $e_{31}/e_{32}$ to be negative, which imposes the use of interdigitated electrodes instead of continuous ones. The design of two transducers with interdigitated electrodes for perfect point load actuation on a clamped plate is verified with finite element calculations. The first design is based on a full piezoelectric ceramic patch and shows superior actuation performance than the second design based on a piezocomposite patch with a volume fraction of fibres of 86%. The results show that both designs lead to perfect point load actuation while the use of an isotropic PZT patch with continuous electrodes gives significantly different results.

  • This study is to analyze the works introduced in the collections of Paco Rabanne in an aim to identify formative aesthetic and design concepts. As the data to study the creative concepts and expressions of the designer, fashion photographs were gathered in a focus on collections. Paco Rabanne's fashion philosophy is to shine women who has passion, energy and self-confidence, with glittering materials. For he had a career of fashion accessary designer and architect, he tried to make his work constructively with non-sewing technology. So, his works could be divided three parts of materials which he has made creative fashion with. They are metallic, non-metallic and fabric. In metallic, design concepts are cosmos, egypt, the middle ages, modern technology. And from these the formative aesthetic were mainly characterized by the futurism, cubism and eroticism. In non-metallic, building, purism of primitiveness, nature. And from these the formative aesthetic were mainly characterized by surrealism, primitivism, romantism. In fabric, design concepts are natural phenomena, optical illusion. And from these the formative aesthetic were mainly characterized by cubism, optical art.

The Study of Costume Design Applying the Shape Beauty of Flower - Concentrating on the Orchid Motif - (꽃의 형태미를 응용한 의상디자인 연구 - 난(Orchid) 모티프를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study lies in pursuing the unique plastic arts with the orchid motif which has the graceful colors and a variety of shapes beauty. Another aspect of this study intends to crease the modern costume design with the high added value by expressing the texture according to the material and tissue development for the continual improvement and promotion of the modern costume design in the handicraft art area. The results through the theoretical survey and the work production are as follows : First, the orchid which has the various shapes and colors provides the designers with the unique plastic arts and the possibilities for the unlimited expressions as the design motives. Second, we can see the creation of cubic plastic beauty in the moving line, as the material which has the flexible and brilliant shape fixation, used for expressing the shape beauty of the orchid. Third, this study reveals the extension of expression areas as a characteristic of the plastic arcs by applying handicraft techniques such as dyeing, corded tuck, flounce, crochet, weaving, beads embroidery, and art flower to the costumes for developing the unique material and texture. Finally, the possibility is suggested that the desires of the moderns searching for their own individualities can be met by creating the costumes with the added vague as the exposure of esthetic consciousness through the handicraft expression techniques.
