Study on the Development Direction of the Use of Wood as a Landscape Material

  • The main purpose of this study was to propose the development direction and application method of wood as a landscape material by analysis and investigation of the present condition and characteristics of wood, which is a quite interesting natural material for its beauty as an exterior material. This study is based on the relationships between the establishment of development direction and practical use of exterior wood as a landscape material. The research method used was fieldwork and data analysis. On the analysis of the present condition of wood utilization, it was investigated to need of complement of a design aspect, use method, the limit of use type, and use range. The direction of a durable design for the practical use of exterior wood as landscape materials was established. On the use of exterior wood, first, the characteristics of wood have to be understood. Then exterior wood can be used while preserving its safety and beauty over a long time by physical and chemical treatment. At the same time, an application plan for the practical and effective use of wood as an outdoor landscape material, we concluded that future research in design aspects is needed in consideration of physical, chemical, and structural properties of durable wood materials used in outdoor facilities.

가구디자인에서의 '메이커 무브먼트(Makers Movement)' 사례 분석 연구 - '이케아 해킹(IKEA Hacking)' 사례를 중심으로 - (A Study of 'The Makers Movement' in Furniture Design - Focused on 'KEA Hacking' -)

  • The digital information society that developed along with the 21st century is the 'Open-source Making Movement' which produces collective intelligence through open-source sharing and digital manufacturing tools, which is called 'Makers Movement'. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the case of Makers Movement in furniture design through 'IKEA Hacking' which arose simultaneously with the Makers Movement, and to study and present the prospect and direction of furniture design in the change of manufacturing industry. In this study, four design features were compared with IKEA hacking cases along with the establishment of 'community' which is a feature of Makers Movement. Four characteristics are first customized design, second derivative design through open source, third long -Tail effect design, and fourth, design using digital manufacturing tools. The prospect and direction of furniture design through this study are as follows: first, democratization of furniture design manufacturing, second job creation, third, coexistence of large and small enterprises, fourth promotion of various new technologies, and fifth, discovery of various furniture designers through 'Open System Organization'.

홈네트?환경과 제품디자인의 발전방향 연구 (A Study on the Development Direction for Homenetwork Environment and Product Design)

  • 일반 가정에 홈네트워크가 구축되면서 사용자들은 다양한 유형의 디바이스들을 홈네트워크에 연결하고 제어하기를 원하고 있다. 사람들이 꿈꾸는 새로운 환경을 구현하기 위하여 다양한 서비스가 개발되고 있으며 여러 유형의 디바이스들을 제안하여 사용성 및 타당성을 검토하고 있다. 그러나 기술 주도형으로 진행된 현재까지의 환경에서 표준화를 위한 기술적인 설계 가이드라인이 마련될 조짐을 보임에 따라 홈네트워크의 상용화가 앞당겨질 예정이며, 따라서 진정으로 사용자를 위한 가치있는 디자인 개발이 본격적으로 논의되어져야 할 시점이다. 이러한 장치들은 사회 전반적으로 소외된 계층이 없도록 배려할 필요가 있으며, 사용자 및 사용환경의 특수성을 수용하는 방향으로 차별화 된 디자인 개발을 하여야 한다. 또한 각 디바이스들은 신뢰성이 있어야 하며, 오동작 및 오류가 없어야 하고. 긴 수명을 가질 필요가 있다. 즐겁게 받아들일 수 있는 새로운 변화뿐만 아니라 이미 익숙한 습관 처림 익힐 수 있는 제품의 개발도 동시에 진행되어 현재의 생활 속으로 자연스럽게 흡수될 수 있어야 할 것이다. 미래의 홈네트? 제품디자인 개발 방향은 우리의 기대와 요구에 따라 달라질 수 있으며 경제적, 시간적으로 많은 투자를 해야하는 생산자들을 위한 좋은 지침서가 될 것이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 현재의 네트? 동향 및 발전에 대하여 연구하고 향후의 홈네트? 제품디자인 방향을 제시하여 보고자 한다.

적정기술기반 공학설계에서 디자인 사고의 적용을 위한 대학생들의 설계활동 분석 (An Analysis of the Design Activities in Appropriate Technology based Engineering Design in order to utilize the Concept of Design Thinking)

  • The concept of the design thinking can be effective in engineering design process especially in developing the appropriate technology product. In this paper we analyze the student's design activities during the 'Creative and Integrated Design Academy for the other 90%' to solve the problems in the developing countries from the perspective of the design thinking. Based on this analysis we propose the direction of the creative and integrated design activities to solve the appropriate technology products and also the direction of the future engineering design process.

Optimization for trapezoidal combined footings: Optimal design

  • This work presents a complete optimal model for trapezoidal combined footings that support a concentric load and moments around of the "X" and "Y" axes in each column to obtain the minimum area and the minimum cost. The model presented in this article considers a pressure diagram that has a linear variation (real pressure) and the equations are not limited to some cases. The classic model takes into account a concentric load and the moment around of the "X" axis (transverse axis) that is applied due to each column, i.e., the resultant force is located at the geometric center of the footing on the "Y" axis (longitudinal axis), and when the concentric load and moments around of the "X" and "Y" axes act on the footing is considered the uniform pressure applied on the contact surface of the footing, and it is the maximum pressure. Four numerical problems are presented to find the optimal design of a trapezoidal combined footing under a concentric load and moments around of the "X" and "Y" axes due to the columns: Case 1 not limited in the direction of the Y axis; Case 2 limited in the direction of the Y axis in column 1; Case 3 limited in the direction of the Y axis in column 2; Case 4 limited in the direction of the Y axis in columns 1 an 2. The complete optimal design in terms of cost optimization for the trapezoidal combined footings can be used for the rectangular combined footings considering the uniform width of the footing in the transversal direction, and also for different reinforced concrete design codes, simply by modifying the resisting capacity equations for moment, for bending shear, and for the punching shear, according to each of the codes.

  • The future of design relies much on and is only ensured by the fundamental understanding of the dynamics between the ecosystem of nature and that of humans; therefore, having an eco-mind is essential. This study establishes ecological design strategies coinciding with the furniture design process and the furniture product life cycle in production, distribution, and end-of-life. In addition, it provides an overall direction with guidelines for ecological furniture design. The presented strategies focus on the Development of a New Concept; the Optimized Use of Physical Materials-functionality and utility; the Optimized Production; the Optimized Distribution System; and the Optimized End-of-life System. Through taking these steps, we can not only preserve our natural environment and Improve our lives, but also create optimal furniture design which corresponds and integrate with the ecosystem.

  • In this paper, bus station design is presented as a component of public design to develop the integrated city public image of Daejeon Metropolitan City through the study of city characteristics and the direction of future development. Design concept is the mutual understanding of public image and human centered sense, and comfortable bus station which is correspond with future development direction and applicable for digital informationization is selected. Design components are bus shelter, information board, bench, vending machine, a wastebasket, billboards and so forth.

편성물의 역학적 특성과 태 평가 - 2 칼라 자카드를 중심으로- (A Study on the Mechanical and Hand Properties of Knitted Fabrics - Focused on the 2 Colors Jacquard -)

  • The results of comparison and analysis of dynamical features according to Jacquard structure are as follows. Regarding elongation(E) value in tensile property, the value in the direction of course was found to be larger in all Jacquard structure, except floating Jacquard, than the direction of wale. It could be found that, as to bending strength(B) in Bending Property, the value of bending strength in the direction of course smaller in all the textile(structure) except floating than the direction of wale, so that the ability of curve formation is excellent. And in case of floating Jacquard, it showed the smallest value in the direction of course and wale, so that it was interpreted as Jacquard having a soft feel. Blister Jacquard showed the highest value in both directions of course and wale, so that it was evaluated as Jacquard having the hardest touch. With regard to shearing character(G) and shearing hysteresis(2HG) in Shearing Property, Jacquard indicated the lowest value, so it was evaluated as the textile(structure) having high drape the transformation of whose fabric is easy. In addition, normal Jacquard, transfer Jacquard, blister Jacquard showed a high value, so that it could be known they are Jacquards having stiff touch. The study implies that normal Jacquard, bird's eye Jacquard, etc., which well stretch in the direction of a course like tubular Jacquard course, is better to make the margin a little shorter than the basic margin, and Jacquard that well stretches in the direction of wale like ladder's back Jacquard and floating Jacquard is better to make the margin longer and the length shorter than the basic margin.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the development direction and performance analysis of design review system in design-build project. As a result of surveys, the fairness and transparency of design review system was abruptly increased. But local government has not fairness and transparency. Therefore this research has proposed the integration management and joint application of design review organization in design-build project. So, we expect that the transparency is raised in management of design review committee.
