  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to report the effects of Yangdokbaekho-tang and Hwangryunhaedok-Tang wet dressing on the treatment of erythrotelangiectatic rosacea patient. Methods : A patient with Erythrotelangiectatic Rosacea treated with Yangdokbaekho-tang, Hwangryunhaedok-Tang wet dressing and acupuncture. We evaluated the score(frequency ${\times}$ intensity) of the hot flush, the main symptom of rosacea and NRS(numeral rating scale) for the subjective symptom. Results : After treatment, the score of the hot flush decrease from 20 to 6. the NRS changed and NRS score improved from 7 to 1. There are no adverse effects and no relapse of erythrotelangiectatic rosacea after 18 days of discharge. Conclusions : According to the result, Korean Medicine such as Yangdokbaekho-tang and Hwangryunhaedok-tang wet dressing can be effective for the treatment of erythrotelangiectatic rosacea.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report three cases of Korean medical treatment for sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSHL). Methods : This study conducted with three sensorineural hearing loss patients who hospitalized in Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology & Dermatology Clinic of Korean Medical Hospital. Three patients were treated with herbal medicine(Sunkihwalhyeol-tang, Ikgibohyeol-tang, Gongjindan) and acupuncture. After treatment, we evaluated Siegel's Criteria with pure tone audiometry and subjective symptoms alteration. Results : All three patients were completely recovery about Siegel's Criteria and improved subjective symptoms after treatment. Conclusions : This study suggests that Korean medical treatment may be effective about SSHL.

  • Erythrodermic actinic reticuloid (EAR) is a photosensitive disorder characterized by dense lymphocytic infiltration in the sun-exposed areas and an increased number of atypical lymphocytes in the peripheral blood. We have reported 2 patients with EAR with circulating atypical lymphocytes and photosensitivity to both ultraviolet (UV) B and A. Although no clonal proliferation of T-cells was observed in the peripheral blood, CD8+ cells were increased in number in an oligoclonal fashion. A number of proliferating CD8+ cells were small, but most cells expressed bcl-2. These findings suggest EAR is a photosensitivity dermatitis characterized by the overspill of oligoclonal CD8+ lymphocytes responsive to UV irradiation.

  • A female visited the Dept. of Oriental Ophthamology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology, Dong-eui University with Facial Nerve Palsy in Herpes Zoster Oticus. She had been taking ill with chronic hepatitis B and taking western medicine. We treated a patient with only Oriental Medicine.(the herbal medication and acupuncture etc). Because she was afraid of herbal medicine -induced hepatitis, went through an examination about LFT profile regularly. The symptom of Herpes Zoster Oticus was improved and there was no abnormality in LFT profile. Through this case, we thought that it is possible to treat the other disease of the patient with chronic hepatitis using herbal medication without hepatotoxic hepatitis. But for the safety of patient and doctor in several case, we need to accumulate objective data about the side effect of herbal medications inducing hepatotoxic hepatitis.

We have a case report of the patient who has both tinnitus during two years. He has also chest distress, chest pain, shoulder.neck pain, obesity. In Oriental Medicine, the cuases of tinnitus have diagnosed as the hepatic fire, phlegm-fire, heart fire, deficiency of the kidney, deficiency of vital energy and blood, and so on. In this study the patient classified by Sasang constitutional medicine, and the cuase of tinnitus diagnosed as cold turbid phlegm in Middle Cho, had a medical effects. • Painful ophthalmoplegia due to idiopathic granulomatous inflammation of the cavernous sinus/superior orbital fissure has been termed Tolosa-Hunt syndrome(THS). The syndrome is characterized by pain behind, above or around the eye, involvement of the cranial nerves which pass through the cavernous sinus, spontaneous remissions and exacerbations, and a favourable response to steroid therapy. There was the 56 years old man who suffered from painful ophthalmoplegia and facial palsy. The oriental medical treatment without steroids and analgesics reduced the symptoms of the patient remarkably during 5 weeks. There is few report that treat THS with oriental medical method. If more clinical trials like this are proved to be effective, we can expect that oriental medical treatment will be a good method in THS.

  • The potential role of topical valproate (VPA) in hair regrowth has been recently suggested. However, safety reports of VPA as a topical formulation are lacking. Therefore, in the present study, we investigated whether VPA causes skin irritation in humans. We first performed a cell viability test and showed that VPA did not exhibit toxicity toward HaCaT keratinocytes, fibroblasts, and RBL-3H mast cells. We then performed clinical patch test and skin irritation test through transdermal drug delivery with the help of microneedle rollers. No significant findings were obtained in the clinical patch test. In the skin irritation test, only 1 patient showed erythema at 1 hr, but the irritation reaction faded away within a few hours. Erythema and edema were not observed at 24 hr. We concluded that VPA has minimal potential to elicit skin irritation. Therefore, we consider that VPA can safely be applied to human skin.

  • Triptolide, a diterpenoid obtained from Tripteryglum wilfordii Hook.f, has attracted interest for its antitumor activities against human tumor cell lines in recent years. This report focuses on anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic activities in human melanoma A375 cells assessed by CCK8 assay, Hoechst 33258 staining and flow cytometry. In addition, triptolide-induced arrest in the S phase was also observed. Caspase assays showed the apoptosis induced by triptolide was caspase-dependent and probably through intrinsic apoptotic pathways. Furthermore, expression of NF-${\kappa}B$ (p65) and its downstream factors such as Bcl-2, Bcl-$X_L$ was down-regulated. Taken together, the data indicate that triptolide inhibits A375 cells proliferation and induces apoptosis by a caspase-dependent pathway and through a NF-${\kappa}B$-mediated mechanism.
