AFFINE INVARIANT LOCAL CONVERGENCE THEOREMS FOR INEXACT NEWTON-LIKE METHODS

  • Affine invariant sufficient conditions are given for two local convergence theorems involving inexact Newton-like methods. The first uses conditions on the first Frechet-derivative whereas the second theorem employs hypotheses on the second. Radius of con-vergence as well as rate of convergence results are derived. Results involving superlinear convergence and known to be true for inexact Newton methods are extended here. Moreover we show that under hypotheses on the second Frechet-derivation our radius of convergence results are derived. Moreover we show that under hypotheses on the second Frechet-derivative our radius of conver-gence is larger than the corresponding one in [10]. This allows a wider choice for the initial guess. A numerical example is also pro-vided to show that our radius of convergence is larger then the one in [10].

농업수리구조물의 적정설계홍수량 유도를 위한 유출수문곡선모형의 개발(I) (Development of Runoff Hydrograph Model for the Derivation of Optimal Design Flood of Agricultural Hydraulic Structures(1))

  • It is experienced fact as a regular annual event that the structure to he designed on unreasonable flood for the agricultural structures including reservoirs have been brought not only loss of lives, but also enormous property damage. For the solution of this problem at issue, this study was conducted to develop an optimal runoff hydrograph model by comparison of the peak flows and time to peak between observed and simulated flows derived by linear time-invariant and linear time-variant models under the condition of having a short duration of heavy rainfall with uniform rainfall intensity at nine small watersheds which are within the range of 55.9 to 140.7 square kilometers in area in Han, Geum, Nagdong and Yeongsan Rivers. The results obtained through this study can be summarized as follows. 1. Storage constants and Gamma function arguments were calculated within the range of 1.2 to 6.42 and of 1.28 to 8.05 respectively by the moment method as the parameters for the analysis of runoff hydrograph based on linear time-invariant model. 2. Parameters for both linear time-invariant and linear time-variant models were calibrated with nine gaged watershed data, using a trial and error method. The resulting parameters including Gamma function argument, N and storage constant, K for linear time-invariant model were related statistically to watershed characteristic variables such as area, slope, length of main stream and the centroid length of the basin. 3. Average relative errors of the simulated peak discharge of calibrated runoff hydrographs by using linear time-variant and linear time-invariant models were shown to be 0.75 and 5.42 percent respectively to the peak of observed runoff hydrographs. Correlation coefficients for the statistical analysis in the same condition were shown to be 0.999 and 0.978 with a high significance respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the accuracy of a linear time-variant model is approaching more closely to the observed runoff hydrograph than that of a linear time-invariant model in the applied watersheds. 4. Average relative errors of the time to peak of calibrated runoff hydrographs by using linear time-variant and linear time-invariant models were shown to be 16.44 and 19.89 percent respectively to the time to peak of observed runoff hydrographs. Correlation coefficients in the same condition were also shown to be 0.999 and 0.886 with a high significance respectively. 5. It can be seen that the shape of simulated hydrograph based on a linear time- variant model is getting closer to the observed runoff hydrograph than that of a linear time-invariant model in the applied watersheds. 6. Two different models were verified with different rainfall-runoff events from data for the calibration by relative error and correlation analysis. Consequently, it can be generally concluded that verification results for the peak discharge and time to peak of simulated runoff hydrographs were in good agreement with those of calibrated runoff hydrographs.

Especially, it can be concluded that the simulated peak discharge of a linear time-variant model is approaching more closely to the observed runoff hydrograph in comparison with those of three models in the applied watersheds. 3. Correlation coefficients of the simulated time to peak of calibrated runoff hydrographs by using a linear time-variant model were shown to be a high significant to the time to peak of observed runoff hydrographs than those of the other models. 4. The peak discharge and time to peak of simulated runoff hydrogaphs by using linear time-variant model are verified to be approached more closely to those of observed runoff hydrographs than those of three models in the applied watersheds. 5. It can be generally concluded that the shape of simulated hydrograph based on a linear time-variant model is getting closer to the observed runoff hydrograph than those of three models in the applied watersheds. 6. Simulated hydrographs using the nonlinear time-variant model which is based on more closely to the theoritical background of the natural runoff process are not closer to the observed runoff hydrographs in comparison with those of three models in the applied watersheds. Consequently, it is to be desired that futher study for the nonlinear time-variant model should be continued with verification using rainfall-runoff data of the other watersheds in addition to the review of analyical techniques.

A Suggestion of Nonlinear Fuzzy PID Controller to Improve Transient Responses of Nonlinear or Uncertain Systems

  • In order to control systems which contain nonlinearities of uncertainties, control strategies must deal with the effects of them. Since most of control methods based on system mathematical models have been mainly developed focused on stability robustness against nonlinearities or uncertainties under the assumption that controlled systems are linear time invariant, they have certain amount of limitations to smartly improve the transient responses of systems disturbed by nonlinearities or uncertainties. In this paper, a nonlinear fuzzy PID control method is suggested which can stably improve the transient responses of systems disturbed by nonlinearities, as well as systems whose mathematical characteristics are not perfectly known. Although the derivation process is based on the design process similar to general fuzzy logic controller, resultant control law has analytical forms with time varying PID gains rather than linguistic forms, so that implementation using common-used versatile microprocessors cna be achieved easily and effectively in real-time control aspect.

For $M=\{{\partial}_1,\;{\partial}_1^2\},\;Der_{non}(\mathbb{F}[e^{{\pm}x}]_M))$ of the evaluation algebra $\mathbb{F}[e^{{\pm}x},\;e^{{\pm}y}]_M$ is found in the paper (see [2]). For $M=({\partial}_1^2,\;{\partial}_2^2)$, we find $Der_{non}(\mathbb{F}[e^{{\pm}x},\;e^{{\pm}y}]_M))$ of the evaluation algebra $\mathbb{F}[e^{{\pm}x},\;e^{{\pm}y}]_M$ in this paper.

  • This paper deals with a novel approach to unknown inputs observer(UIO) design for linear time-invariant dynamical systems using a fast Walsh transform and Walsh function's differential operation. Generally, UIO has a derivation of system outputs which is not available from the measurement directly. And it is an obstacle to estimate the unknown inputs properly when unexpected measurement noises are presented. Therefore, this paper propose an algebraic approach to eliminate such problems by using a Walsh function's differential operation.

  • 본 논문에서는 상태변수에 시변 지연시간이 있는 선형 이산 구간 시변 시스템의 안정조건을 새롭게 제안한다. 고려한 시스템은 지연 없는 상태변수에 대한 시스템 행렬과 지연 상태변수에 대한 시스템 행렬이 시변 구간 행렬로 표현되며, 지연시간도 구간에 대하여 시변인 특성을 갖는다. 제안된 안정조건은 리아프노프 안정 이론을 이용하여 유도되며, 매우 간단한 부등식의 형태로 표현된다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 시불변 구간 행렬의 안정성 문제를 시변 구간 행렬의 안정성 문제로 확장하고, 기존에 발표된 결과를 포함하는 강력한 안정조건이 유도된다. 이 안정조건의 유도과정에서는 복잡한 선형행렬부등식 혹은 리아프노프 방정식의 상한 해 한계를 구하지 않아도 된다. 또한, 기존의 결과들과의 비교를 통하여 제안된 안정조건이 많은 기존 안정 조건들을 포함할 수 있음을 보인다. 기존 수치예제를 일반적인 형태로 확장하였고 이에 대하여 새로운 안정조건의 확장성과 효용성을 확인한다.

Analysis of Tropical Tropospheric Ozone Derivation from Residual-Type Method

  • During the northern burning season, biomass burning is found north of the equator, while satellite estimates from the residual-type method such as the CCD method show higher ozone south of the equator. This discrepancy is called the tropical Atlantic paradox (Thompson et ai., 2000). We use satellite and ground-based measurements to investigate the paradox. When the background tropospheric ozone over the Pacific Ocean from TOMS measurements is subtracted from the latitudinal total ozone distribution (e.g. TOMS-Pacific method), the results show remarkable agreement with the latitudinal stratospheric ozone distribution using the CCD method. The latitudinal tropospheric ozone distribution using the CCD method, with a persistent maximum over the southern tropical Atlantic, is also seen in the latitudinal tropospheric ozone distribution using the TOMS-Pacific method. It suggests that the complicated CCD method can be replaced by the simple TOMS-Pacific method. However, the tropical Atlantic paradox exists in the results of both the CCD and TOMS-Pacific methods during the northern buming season. In order to investigate this paradox, we compare the latitudinal ozone distributions using the CCD and TOMS-Pacific methods by using the SAGE measurements (e.g. TOMS-SAGE method) and the SHADOZ ozonesoundings (e.g. TOMS-Sonde method) assuming zonally invariant stratospheric ozone, which is the same assumption as of the CCD method. During the northern burning season, the latitudinal distributions in the tropospheric ozone derived from the TOMS-SAGE and TOMS-Sonde methods show higher tropospheric ozone over the northern tropical Atlantic than the southern Atlantic due to a stronger gradient in stratospheric ozone relative to that from the CCD and TOMS-Pacific methods. This indicates that the latitudinal tropospheric ozone distribution can be changed depending on the data that is used to determine the latitudinal stratospheric ozone distribution. Therefore, there is a possibility that the north-south gradient in stratospheric ozone over the Atlantic can be a solution of the paradox.

R.C. 휨부재(部材)의 L.R.F.D. 신뢰성(信賴性) 설계기준(設計基準)에 관한 연구(研究) (A Study on LRFD Reliability Based Design Criteria of RC Flexural Members)

  • 최근 구미(歐美) 선진제국(先進諸國)에서는 확률적(確率的)인 개념(槪念)에 의한 한계상태설계법(限界狀態設計法)을 표준시방서(標準示方書)로 도입(導入)하는 경향이 높아지고 있다. 이들 선진국(先進國)에서 채택한 LSD, LRFD, PBLSD 같은 신뢰성설계기준(信賴性設計基準)은 각종(各種) 시공재료(施工材料)에 대한 설계절차(設計節次)를 단순화(單純化)시킬 뿐만아니라 일관성(一貫性)있는 신뢰성(信賴性)을 갖게 하는 능력(能力)을 갖고 있다. 본(本) 연구(硏究)에서는 RC 휨부재(部材)에 대한 이러한 신뢰성설계기준(信賴性設計基準)을 제안(提案)하였다. 이를 위하여 Lind-Hasofer의 불변(不變)2차(次)모멘트 신뢰성이론(信賴性理論)에 의해 반복시행적(反復試行的) 신뢰성해석(信賴性解析) 및 하중(荷重)-저항계수(抵抗係數) 결정(決定)알고리즘을 유도하고, 또한 Cornell의 평균제(平均第)1계이차(階二次)모멘트법(法)을 사용하여 근사적(近似的)으로도 신뢰성(信賴性)을 해석(解析)하여 설계기준(設計基準)을 결정(決定)하도록 하였다. 휨부재(部材)의 저항(抵抗) 및 하중효과(荷重效果)에 대한 불확실양산정(不確實量算定)은 Ellingwood의 하중(荷重) 및 저항불확실량(抵抗不確實量) 해석방법(解析方法)을 따랐다. 현행(現行) 극한강설계시방서(極限强設計示方書) 기준(基準)으로 설계(設計)되는 R.C.휨부재(部材)의 상대적(相對的) 의미(意味)의 안전성수준(安全性水準)을 제안(提案)된 이차(二次)모멘트신뢰성이론(信賴性理論)에 의해 검토(檢討)하였다. 그리고 우리 현실(現實)을 고려한 ${\beta}_0=4$를 적절한 목표신뢰성지수(目標信賴性指數)로 간주(看做)하고 이에 대한 저항(抵抗) 및 하중계수(荷重係數)를 제안(提案)된 방법(方法)으로 계산(計算)하였으며, 현행(現行) 극한강설계기준(極限强設計基準)의 안전율(安全率)과 이들 계산(計算)된 계수(係數)를 비교(比較), 분석(分析)하였다. 현행(現行) 시방서(示方書)로 설계(設計)되는 휨부재(部材)의 신뢰성(信賴性) 수준(水準)은 적절(適切)하지 못하며, 현행(現行) 시방서(示方書)에 규정(規定)된 저항(抵抗) 및 하중계수(荷重係數)는 본연구(本硏究)의 신뢰성이론(信賴性理論)으로 유도한 저항(抵抗) 및 하중계수(荷重係數)와 상당히 차이(差異)가 있음을 발견(發見)할 수 있었다.
