The flow configurations at open channel junctions are analyzed by 2-D depth averaged mathematical model. The governing factors of the flow at the junction are found to be discharge ratio between tributary flow and the post confluence combined flow, and confluence angle. Analyzed by these two factors are flow patterns and flow depth variation at the confluence, discharge ratio above which the flow upstresm from the junction is affected by the tributary flow and the geometries of a recirculation region. Further, the flow contraction in the downstream region and the deflection of the tributary flow in the main channel were investigated. The numerical results are compared with the existing experimental data fairly well.

In this study, FESWMS FST2DH model was used to analyze the change of flow characteristics after making the riparian forest. The additional flow resistance is calculated based on the drag-force concept acting on each tree and the lateral momentum transfer between planted and non-planted zone could be satisfactorily reproduced by parabolic turbulence model in this depth-averaged 2-D numerical model. For model validation, the simulated velocities were compared with the measured data, showing good agreement in both tree density cases of experiments. The previous method using a proper Manning's n coefficient gives reasonable solutions only to evaluate the conveyance, but the calculated approach velocity at each tree was different from realistic value. The proposed procedure could be widely used to evaluate hydraulic effects of riparian trees in practical engineering.
This paper provides numerical results of the simulation for the flow around the hull and the propeller of KCS model ship advancing in shallow water conditions. A finite volume method is used to solve the unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equations, where the wave-making problem is solved by using a volume-of-fluid(VOF) method. The wave formed near the hull surface in shallow water conditions shows a deep trough dominant pattern that causes the loss of buoyancy followed by hull squat. The flow past the hull increases as the depth of water decreases. However, the axial flow velocity around the stern shows a reduction in magnitude by the effect of shallow water accompanied by the hull-propeller interaction. As a results, the thrust and torque coefficient increase about 8.3% and 6.2%, respectively for a depth of h/T=3.0 corresponding to a depth Froude number of $F_h=0.693$. The resistance coefficient increases about 11.6% at this Froude number condition.

This study aimed to estimate applicability of a model to simulate circulation in estuarine lake caused by operation of drainage gates. The model consists of 2D (depth-averaged) hydrodynamic models, Delft3D-FLOW model and operation model for drainage gates. The flow through drainage gates was calculated using weir formulae with discharge coefficient, 0.8. The simulations are performed under two conditions: uncontrolled condition and controlled by periods of two days. The results on simulation of the model showed that the water level in estuarine lake was tend to increase above mean sea level. Therefore it was proved that the calibration and verification were needed in order to applicate this model for Saemankeum area.

Vegetation drag tends to raise water level by retarding the flow. Previous studies have focussed on either the vertical structure modeling or the one-dimensional modeling, which can hardly be used to simulate the vegetative streams in practical engineering. Therefore, this paper presents a two-dimensional numerical model based on the depth-averaged flow equations. Vegetation drags are reflected in the flow equations, assuming non-flexible rigid cylinders. For validations, flow properties measured in both rectangular and compound channels are compared with simulated data, showing good agreement. Then, the model is applied to a reach in the Han River and the impact of floodplain vegetation on the flow is investigated.
High-speed flight vehicle have various cavities. The supersonic cavity flow is complicated due to vortices, flow separation, reattachment, shock waves and expansion waves. The general cavity flow phenomena includes the formation and dissipation of vortices, which induce oscillation and noise. The oscillation and noise greatly affect flow control, chemical reaction, and heat transfer processes. The supersonic cavity flow with high Reynolds number is characterized by the pressure oscillation due to turbulent shear layer, cavity geometry, and resonance phenomenon based on external flow conditions. The resonance phenomena can damage the structures around the cavity and negatively affect aerodynamic performance and stability. In the present study, we performed numerical analysis of cavities by applying the unsteady, compressible three dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equations with the ${\kappa}-{\omega}$ turbulence model. The cavity model used for numerical calculation had a depth(D) of 15mm cavity aspect ratio (L/D) of 3, width to spanwise ratio(W/D) of 1.0 to 5.0. Based on the PSD(Power Spectral Density) and CSD(Cross Spectral Density) analysis of the pressure variation, the dominant frequency was analyzed and compared with the results of Rossiter's Eq.

This paper presents a numerical model for the simulations of 2D depth-averaged flows. The shallow water equations are solved numerically by the Characteristic Dissipative Galerkin (CDG) finite element method. For validation, the developed model is applied to the hydraulic jump. The computed results are compared with the analytical solution, revealing good agreement. In addition, flow in a contracting channel showing standing waves is simulated. The calculated water surface profile appears to be qualitatively consistent with the observed data. The foregoing results indicate that the model is capable of simulating the abrupt change in flow field. Next, the model is applied to the flow in a $180^{\circ}$ curved channel. The simulated results show that the velocity near the inner bank is faster than that near the outer bank and the water depth near the inner bank is shallower than that near the outer bank. However, the simulated results show that the velocity distribution across the channel is almost uniform in the bend except the reach close to the end of the bend. This is due to the limitation of the governing equations in which the transverse convection of momentum by the secondary flows along a channel bend is not taken into account.

The formulation of depth-averaged two-dimensional mathematical model for the analysis of tide induced circulation in a harbor by the Galerkin finite element techique is presented. In integration of the Galerkin approach in time both explicit and implicit method have been tested for one and two dimentional water bodies, and the two step Lax-Wendroff explicit method is found to be effective than the implicit in reducing computing time. The essential characteristics of the tide induced flow in Busan Harbor with two open boundaries has been foccud to be reproduceable in the numerical model and the simulated results encourage that the model can be used as a predictive tool.

A quasi depth-varying mathematical model for wind-generated circulation in coastal areas, expressed in terms of the depth-averaged horizontal velocity components and free surface elevation was validated and used to understand the diurnal circulation process. The wind velocity is considered as a dominant factor for driving the current. In this paper, three-dimensional numerical experiments that included the land topography were used to investigate the mesoscale air flaw over the coastal regions. The surface temperature of the inland area was determined through a surface heat budget consideration with the inclusion of a layer of vegetation.A series of numerical experiments were then carried out to investigate the diurnal response of the air flaw and wind-generated circulation to various types of surface inhomogeneities.
