To apply a square-shaped beam homogenizer to laser shock peening, it should be designed with a long working distance and by considering metal targets with various shapes and textures. For long working distances, a square-shaped beam homogenizer with a long depth of focus is required. In the range of working distance, the laser beam is required to have not only high efficiency but high uniformity, in other words, a good peening quality is guaranteed. In this study, we defined this range as the working distance for laser shock peening. We have simulated the effect of some parameters on the working distance. The parameters include the focal length of the condenser lens, pitch size of the array lens, and plasma threshold of the metal. The simulation was performed through numerical analysis by considering the diffraction effect.
A series of soil bin experiment was carried out on sandy loam to investigate if it is possible to predict implement draft by some analog tool. Chisel configuration resembling a cone penetrometer section was used as an analog tool. The angle of cone was 30 degree. Three types of tillage implement, or oriental janggi, moldboard plow and chisel plow were chosen for this study. Experimental tillage speed was 0.22, 0.33, 0.49 m/s ad tillage depth was 8, 12, 16cm. For the experimental tillage speed range, the increase of tillage speed did not affect the tillage draft for the three types of implement and analog tool, but as the tillage depth increased, tillage draft of the three types of implement and analog tool increased linearly. The linear relationship was found between the tillage draft of analog tool and that of three types of tillage implement for the experimental tillage depth and speed range with high value of $R^2$ Thus it was concluded from the above results that an analog tool can be used to predict the tillage draft of oriental janggi, moldboard plow and chisel plow. But more experiment for various soil types and theoretical verification are needed for more generallization.

The moving ranges and behavior of four wild abalones, Haliotis discus hannai, were measured by an acoustic telemetry technique. The shape of the sea bottom of the experimental area was surveyed by a bathymetry system and three self-recording type acoustic receivers were used for monitoring the behavior and measuring the movement range. The abalones (WA1-WA4) attached acoustic tags were released and measured the movement during ten months. Three abalones (WA1, WA3 and WA4) were successively detected around the released point during the experiment and were moved to the V2 area where water depth is deeper than the V1 area. The change of inhabitation depth was also detected from the depth sensor of WA4. As the result, abalones were moved to deeper water area accordance with the decrease of the water temperature. The moved ranges of abalones were approximately 200 - 400m from the release point.

The phenomena of local scour due to a current from a seadike closure gap which is protected by rock, then on to an erodible bed, have been studied. Based on the data of hydraulic model test, the scour characteristics have been investigated for the variation of maximum scour depth with time until reaching equilibrium stage and the shape of ultimate scour hole. A brief evaluation of DHL formula for the relationship between maximum scouring depth and time and a dimensionless form leading to time-scale introduced. On the basis of DHL formula, modified DHL formula denoted DHL-RDC formula is extend to the range of estimation of scour depth compared to DHL formula verified by model test.

It is required to evaluate nondestructively depth of surface-breaking cracks in structures. In this paper, the self-compensated technique by laser-based ultrasound is used to measure the depth of surface-breaking defect. Optical generation of ultrasound produces a well defined pulse with reliable frequency content. It is broad banded and suitable for measurement of attenuation and scattering over a wide frequency range. The self-calibrated signal transmission data of surface wave shows good sensitivity as a practical tool far assessment of surface-breaking defect depth. It is suggested that the relationship between the signal transmission and crack depth can be used to predict the surface-breaking crack depths in structures.

Most of the surface/interface analysis tools have limited depth profiling c capability in terms of the profiling range and the depth resolution. However, M MEIS can profile the surface and subsurface composition and structure q quantitatively and non-destructively with atomic layer depth resolution. I In this presentation, the MEIS system developed at KRISS will be briefly d described with an introduction on the principle of MEIS. Recent MEIS r results on the surface and interface composition and structural change due to i ion bombardment will be presented for preferential sputtering of T:없Os and d damage depth profiles of SHooD, Pt(l11), and Cu(l1D due to Ar+ ion b bombardment. Direct observation of strained Si lattices and its distribution i in the SHool)-SiCh interface and the initial stage of Co growth on Pt(l11) w will be reported. H surfactant effects on epitaxial growth of Ge on Si(ooD w will be discussed with STM results from SND.

The calculated characteristics of groundwater within the Youngsan river basin are : casing depth-17.1m, well depth-74.8m, natural water-2.6m, pumping water-43.9m, yields-391$m^3/D$, transmissivity-16.3$m^3/D/m$, storativity-0.068. As far as hydrogeological units are concerned, in casing depth, weathered granites are deepest followed by gneiss, volcanics, and sediments. In major aquifer development areas, sediments are deepest followed by volcanics, granites and gneiss in more shallow areas, Altogether, the major aquifar development depth of the Youngsan river basin is within the $35{\sim}60m$ range.
In order to determine the precise effective temperature and surface gravity of warm stars, all synthetic spectral lines in the wavelength range of $4000-5700{\AA}$ with T=6000-7750 K, and log g=3.5, 4.0, and 4.5 for [M/H]=0.0, $V_{rot}$=10 km $s^{-1}$, and $V_{tubl}$=2 km $s^{-1}$ were calculated using the SYNSPEC package(Hubeny, et al., 1995) and the Kurucz(1995) model. Then, the depth-ratios for all line pairs were investigated and we selected two and six depth-ratios appropriate for the surface gravity and temperature indicators, respectively. We plotted six grids with X- and Y-axes for the depth-ratios of surface gravity and temperature, respectively, for the simultaneous estimation of these two atmospheric parameters. This method was applied to the spectum of $\delta$ Scu for the determination of its temperature and surface gravity simultaneously.
Stereoscopic Images provide depth information with the relative distances between the objects in the images. There are many different ways to extract disparity maps from the visible spectral images. For the infrared spectral range, the same approach cannot be utilized for the innate low resolution and colorless features because typical methods require corresponding features between the images. The authors suggest a new approach that makes use of image segmentation to obtain depth information for stereoscopic millimeter-wave images. For image segmentation a selective visual attention model based on the theory of a feature-integration of attention is used. Experimental results show the proposed method provides reasonable depth information for object shape recognition and display.
The purpose of this investigation was to examine the pattern of progression of periodontitis and the change in the extent and severity of the periodontal condition in young adults. Fourteen subjects with periodontitis, 11 males and 3 females in the age range 22-26, participated in the study. Following a baseline examination, the subjects were monitored for gingival index, probing pocket depth, gingival recession, probing attachment level and radiogrphic crestal bone height for 24 months without therapy. Re-examination were performed after 12 and 24 months. Gingival index, probing pocket depth, gingival recession and probing attachment level were assesed at 6 locations per tooth, and crestal bone height was assessed by subtraction radiography. The results from the follow-up examination revealed that the subjects underwent minor changes with respect to a series of different clinical parameters. The mean values of gingival index was improved, however, the mean values of probing pocket depth, gingival recession, probing attchment level and crestal bone height showed no significant change between baseline and the re-examination after 1 and 2 years.
