  • There are many kinds of maintenance care services for removable denture patient. Adjustment of the denture base and occlusion should be performed regularly not only for pain relief but also for maintaining the denture function. Direct and indirect relining are needed frequently in specific cases including mandibular distal extension case or non-symmetric residual teeth situation. Surface treatments for metal and resin are essential in the relining procedure. Clinical process for the denture repair is similar to indirect relining which needs inter-occlusal registration. Especially, the peridontal maintenance care and caries prevention are most important way to preserve the abutment teeth in partial edentulism. Moreover, the caring method for the denture and the tissue should be instructed to the denture patient.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate bond strength of denture base resin repaired according to contamination. One commercial denture base resin and two different kinds of relines resin were tested; Lusiton 199(denture base resin), Vertex(reline resin) and TokusoRebase(repair resin). The specimens were processed according to the manufacturer's instructions to cured denture base resin(polymethylmethacrylate; PMMA) and reline resin. Bond strengths were examined by use of a three-point transverse flexural strength test. Data were analyzed with two-factor analysis of variance and Duncan's post-hoc test at $\alpha$=0.05. Generally, the bondstrength of heat-cured resin(Lusiton 199) was higher than the other resins. The contaminations produced an decrease in bond strength. Therefore the contamination, such as saliva or water must be avoided during the laboratory repair procedures.

  • Statment of problem : Little in known about the importance of selection of various double crowns as retainer in determining the outcome of treatment with double crown retained removable partial denture. Purpose : To obtain information about the effects and the results of this treatment modality. Material and methods : This study describes 61 double crown retained removable partial dentures worn by 51 patients from Samsung Medical Center, Seoul a time ranging between 6 and 48 months and evaluate occlusal contacts on the denture teeth, denture movement, incidence of denture relining, denture retention, fracture of dentures and abutments, hygiene, residual ridge inflammatory changes, number of lost abutment,. interruption of denture use. Results : One tenth of all the restorations were relined. Restorations in 21 arches fractured repeatedly for various reasons . There was no apparent interrelationship between fractures and the five groups. Conclusion : Good prognoses of removable partial dentures were shown in all groups(Kennedy Classes I, II, III, combination and few remaining abutment).

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to compare mechanical and physical properties of injection-molded thermoplastic denture base resins. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In this study, six commercially available products (VA; Valplast, LC; Lucitone, ST; Smiltone, ES; Estheshot-Bright, AC; Acrytone, WE; Weldenz) were selected from four types of thermoplastic denture base materials (Polyamide, Polyester, Acrylic resin and Polypropylene). The flexural properties and shore D hardness have been investigated and water sorption and solubility, and color stability have evaluated. RESULTS. For the flexural modulus value, ES showed the highest value and WE showed significantly lower value than all other groups (P<.05). Most of experimental groups showed weak color stability beyond the clinically acceptable range. CONCLUSION. Within the limits of this study, thermoplastic denture base resin did not show sufficient modulus to function as a denture base. In addition, all resins showed discoloration with clinical significance, and especially polyamides showed the lowest color stability.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the general characteristics, oral health risk factors, and denture management behaviors of the elderly and improve their oral health and life satisfaction. Methods: This study was conducted on 386 individuals from elderly welfare facilities in Gyeonggi-do selected by convenience sampling. Results: The female participants were more satisfied with their family relationship than the male participants. Among the risk factors for oral health, life satisfaction was higher among the participants who had no psychological inconvenience and bad breath symptoms. Among the factors for denture management behavior, the participants who did not receive dental checkups regularly expressed greater life satisfaction than those who had not received denture care education. Conclusions: The practical and theoretical implications for elderly welfare programs and oral health management education for denture-wearing elderly were discussed.

  • As residual ridge resorption occurs, complete dentures tend to become loose. Denture relining and rebasing are an essential element for improving a denture's stability and prevention side effect such as sore spot, epulis fissuratum. This paper focuses about health insurance is available for maintenance of complete denture and, methods of relining or rebasing.

  • A denture that shifts easily in response to latterally applied forces can cause a disruption in the border seal or prevent the denture base from Correctly relating to the supporting tissue. The factors that Contribute to stability include ridge height and conformation, base adaptation, residual ridge relationships, occlusion harmony, and Muscle control. These factors can be condensed into the following categories; 1. The relationship of the denture base to the underlying tissue. 2. The relationship of occlusal harmony. 3. The relationship of the denture surface and border to the surrounding muscle. 4. The location of artificial tooth.

  • According to repeated measurements and correction procedures, the accuracy of the phase-shifting profilometry was developed. At first, after 20 final models for maxillary complete denture were duplicated , the mucosa sur-faces of models were measured with the phase-shifting proflometry and each mirror view of these was calibrated. Maxillary casts were divided into 4 groups of 5 casts per each, and wax dentures with 2 sheets of baseplate wax and artificial teeth were made and then cured according to the curing method of each group. Group I ; quick curing with QC-20 acrylic resin Group II ; 9 hour curing with QC-20 acrylic resin Group III ; SR-Ivocap system Group IV ; metal base and quick curing with QC-20 acrylic resin. After curing, polishing, and storing at $37^{\circ}C$ in saline for 30 days, the forms of the impression surface of the dentures were measured with the phase-shifting profilometry. Then, the impression surface form of each denture was placed in the optimal position of com-parison with the mirror view of the same final cast. The amount and direction of distortion of each denture was analyzed and the effects of polishing and storage in each denture were compared, The obtained results were as follows : 1. In Group I, the denture was observed as the appearance distorted in the opposite direction of the mucosa and the postero-lateral part of palatal portion of the denture was observed as the appearance separated from the mucosa. Also, the buccal flanges of the denture were observed as the appearance distorted in the direction of the mucosa. 2. In Group II, the postero-lateral part of palatal portion of the denture was observed as the appearance separated slightly from the mucosa. The bilateral buccal flanges of denture were observed as the appearance distorted severely in the direction of the mucosa. 3. In Group III the bilateral part of the residual ridge crest portions and the buccal flanges of the denture were observed as the appearance distorted in the direction of the mucosa, and specially, the buccal flanges of the maxillary tuberosities were distorted severely. 4. In Group IV, the acrylic resin base of the buccal portion of the denture was observed as the appearance distorted in the opposite direction of the mucosa. 5. The phase-shifting profilometry, done with repeated measurements and correction procedures, was effective in comparing the amount and direction of distortion at every position after the laboratory work and the delivery of maxillary complete denture.
