Web sites on the internet are getting major resources to gain information related to child care. Though the numerous web sites deliver child care information, they have never been evaluated with criteria before. The purpose of this study is to identify existence and organization of child care portal sites and to analysis their contents, therefore to suggest guidelines for parents. The survey was conducted from Sep. 1. to Oct. 30., 2001. by means of Lycos Korea and Daum search engine and finally 45 portal sites related to child care were selected eliminating the commercial and personal homepages. The results were as follows: 1. Most of the sites(95.6%) were operated by corporations without registration(82.2%). Consultants were mostly professional (71.1%). 2. The contents were analyzed 4 categories including 19 themes. 3. Diet & Nutrition category include weaning food, breast feeding, bottle feeding and snack. The recipe and type of weaning food on months were topped(64.44%). 4. Infant Care category include bathing, sleeping, clothes, skin care and cord care. bathing method and heat of bathing water were topped(44.44%). 5. Growth & Development category was consisted of developmental characteristics, dental growth, play & exercise and learning & guidance. Developmental stage and motor development were topped (62.22%). 6. Health maintenance & promotion category was consisted of emergency care, prevention of accidents, vaccination, common pediatric disease and parental role. Care of diarrhea, constipation and fever, and precautions for vaccination were topped(48.89%).
In this study, we performed the carotid artery ultrasound targeting 140 subjects who have conducted to evaluate the changes in intima-media thickness(IMT) and plaque correlated with the presence or absence of a hematological test of the carotid artery. Considering that the IMT thickness more than 1mm is abnormal based on the carotid artery ultrasound to assess the presence or absence of plaque, and examined the correlation by classifying the blood lipid value and the fasting blood glucose level through the serum test. Consequently, the fasting blood glucose level is being analyzed as independent predictors of causing dental plaque(p=0.033), cut off value was determined as 126 mg/dL(sensitivity 56.25%, specificity 68.38%) in ROC curve analysis. Furthermore, the odds ratio appeared 1.01 times the value in the Logistic regression. Therefore, it seemed that the necessity to prospective studies in a number of subjects are considered, and also taking into account a number of blood test values along with the sonography of the carotid artery as a valuable part for effective primary prevention and follow-up observation of the cardiac and brain vascular disease is highly recommended.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of locally delivered 1% alendronate (ALN) gel used as an adjunct to non-invasive periodontal therapy. Methods: Ligature-induced periodontitis was performed in 96 rats. The ligature was tied in the cervical area of the mandibular left first molar. The animals were randomly divided into 4 groups: 1) NT, no treatment; 2) SRP, scaling and root planning; 3) SRP/PLA, SRP followed by filling the periodontal pocket with placebo gel (PLA); and 4) SRP/ALN, SRP followed by filling the periodontal pockets with 1% ALN gel. Histomorphometric (percentage of bone in the furcation region [PBF]) and immunohistochemical (receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand, osteoprotegerin, and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase) analyses were performed. Data were statistically analyzed, with the threshold of statistical significance set at P≤0.05. Results: The SRP, SRP/PLA, and SRP/ALN groups presented a higher PBF than the NT group (P≤0.01) at 7, 15, and 30 days. The SRP/ALN group presented a higher PBF than the SRP/PLA group in all experimental periods, as well as a higher PBF than the SRP group at 15 and 30 days. No differences were observed in the immunohistochemical analyses (P>0.05 for all). Conclusions: Locally delivered 1% ALN gel used as an adjunct to SRP enhanced bone regeneration in the furcation region in a rat model of experimental periodontitis.

The aim of this study was conducted to investigate the awareness and practice of personal hygiene and clinic hygiene of infection among physical therapist and to analyze the factors affecting it to provide basic data for the establishment of nosocomial infection management programs and policies in the physical therapist unit. In this study, 320 physical therapists were collected and analyzed. The study tool used a self-administered questionnaire to investigate general characteristics and awareness and practice of nosocomial infections. Responses were determined as 5-Likert scales and data were analysed using percentage, independent t-test, ANOVA. As a result of this study, 17.8% of infectious disease management departments were not found, and 41.6% of physical therapists were not educated about nosocomial infection. In addition, physical therapists with sufficient protective equipment for treatment were very low at 25.3%. Thus, in order to increase awareness and practice of nosocomial infection in the future, it is necessary to provide enough protective equipment for the treatment within the hospital, and it is considered that the nosocomial infection education of the physical therapist should be carried out regularly in the hospital itself.
The purpose of this study is to understand using of antithrombotic agents in clinical settings. The number of patients receiving antithrombotic therapy is increasing in the long term due to the increased prevalence of cardiovascular disease in the elderly. There is a guideline for discontinuation of antithrombotic treatment before dental treatment, but the present study shows that there is a difference from the actual clinical situation. We used an online survey methodology to involve 1000 participants. The questionnaires were asked about general items and Clinical experience such as history of antithrombotic history, experience of complications due to antithrombotics, discontinuation of use, reasons for discontinuing use. The result is as follows. The incidence of delayed bleeding was found to be 55.1%, and discontinuation of antithrombotic therapy before withdrawal was 87.8%. Among respondents 98.3% responded that they stopped antithrombotics because of delayed bleeding and 57.4% responded that they would stop for three to five days. Korean dentists maybe cope with delayed bleeding considering the emotional problem of the patient, the relationship with the patient's physician, and the additional socioeconomic problems.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate antimicrobial activity of extracts from shiitake mushroom against periodontopathogens and its cytotoxicity for human gingival fibroblast. Materials and Methods: Shiitake mushroom was soaked in water and acetone, and the supernatant was dried to collect its extract. The susceptibility of periodontopathogens for the extracts was investigated. Human gingival fibroblast was treated with the extracts, and the cell viability was measured CCK-8 solution. Results: The water extract from shiitake mushroom significantly reduced the growth of periodontopathogens at 2.5 mg/ml (P < 0.05). The acetone extract significantly inhibited the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Tannerella forsythia at 0.32 mg/ml and Treponema denticola growth at 0.64 mg/ml (P < 0.05). The cytotoxicity of the extract was shown at a concentration of 2.5 mg/ml. The extracts with a concentration of 1.25 mg/ml appeared to be reduce cell viability after 4 h. Conclusion: The extracts of shiitake mushroom have antimicrobial activity against periodontitis-causing bacteria and relieving inflammation. Therefore, the extracts may be a candidate for preventing and treating periodontal disease.
The objective of this study is to provide the basic data for the development of educational programs for the prevention of infectious diseases targeting the elderly by researching the degree of personal hygiene practice, perceived risk of infection, and knowledge and importance of infectious diseases for the prevention of infectious diseases of the elderly. Using the structured questionnaire for a month of October in 2021, this study surveyed total 110 elderly people in their 65 or up by using the one-to-one individual interview method through the Gallup Korea. The collected data was analyzed by using the IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0 Program. In the results of analyzing the ranking by converting it into Borich's needs formula and then totaling up the degree of importance and knowledge, it was researched as the 1st place for the transmission path of infectious diseases, the 2nd place for the preventive method of infectious diseases, the 3rd place for the treatment method of infectious diseases, the 4th place for the handling procedure in case an infectious disease was doubted and confirmed, and the 5th place for the major symptoms of infectious diseases. The results of this study could contribute to the improvement of infection preventive practice through the provision of proper information to subjects, by providing the basic data for the development of educational programs for the elderly reflecting the needs of prevention and management of infectious diseases.

This study was conducted to provide basic data for the development of oral health education programs by examining oral health knowledge and oral health behaviors, and by identifying factors affecting oral health knowledge and scaling experience of Chinese domestic students. From March to May, a self-reported questionnaire was administered to 194 in the G area. The data were analyzed frequency analysis and independent t-test, multiple regression analysis, logistic regression analysis by using SPSS/WIN 26.0 program. The overall average of oral health knowledge was 13.83 out of 24, and knowledge of periodontal disease and scaling was the highest at 3.75, and knowledge of oral hygiene products was the lowest at 1.38. Oral health knowledge was significantly higher in those who had scaling experience for the past year, brushed teeth for more than 3 minutes at a time, used oral hygiene products, and had oral health education experience. As a result of multiple regression analysis, oral health education experience was the most important factor on oral health knowledge. As a result of logistic regression analysis, oral health knowledge was the most influential factor on scaling experience. It is necessary to expand education on the importance of oral care and actively introduce oral health management program for Chinese domestic students.
The purpose of this study was to make and ascertain a decision making process on the base of patient-oriented utilitarianism in the treatment of patients of chronic adult periodontitis. Fifty subjects were chosen in Yonsei Dental hospital and the other fifty were chosen in Severance dental hospital according to the selection criteria. Fifty four patients agreed in this study. NS group(N=32) was treated with scaling and root planing without any surgical intervention, the other S group(N=22) done with flap operation. During the active treatment and healing time, all patients of both groups were educated about the importance of oral hygiene and controlled every visit to the hospital. When periodontal treatment needed according to the diagnostic results, some patients were subjected to professional tooth cleaning and scaling once every 3 months according to an individually designed oral hygienic protocol. Probing depth was recorded on baseline and 18 months after treatments. A questionnaire composed of 6 kinds(hygienic easiness, hypersensitivity, post treatment comfort, complication, functional comfort, compliance) of questions was delivered to each patient to obtain the subjective evaluation regarding the results of therapy. The decision tree for the treatment of adult periodontal disease was made on the result of 2 kinds of periodontal treatment and patient's ubjective evaluation. The optimal path was calculated by using the success rate of the results as the probability and utility according to relative value and the economic value in the insurance system. The success rate to achieve the diagnostic goal of periodontal treatment as the remaining pocket depth less than 3mm and without BOP was $0.83{\pm}0.12$ by non surgical treatment and $0.82{\pm}0.14$ by surgical treatment without any statistically significant difference. The moderate success rate of more than 4mm probing pocket depth were 0.17 together. The utilities of non-surgical treatment results were 100 for a result with less than 3mm probing pocket depth, 80 for the other results with more than 4mm probing pocket depth, 0 for the extraction. Those of surgical treatment results were the same except 75 for the results with more than 4mm. The pooling results of subjective evaluation by using a questionnaire were 60% for satisfaction level and 40% for no satisfaction level in the patient group receiving nonsurgical treatment and 33% and 67% in the other group receiving surgical treatment. The utilities for 4 satisfaction levels were 100, 75, 60, 50 on the base of that the patient would express the satisfaction level with normal distribution. The optimal path of periodontal treatment was rolled back by timing the utility on terminal node and the success rate, the distributed ratio of patient's satisfaction level. Both results of the calculation was non surgical treatment. Therefore, it can be said that non-surgical treatment may be the optimal path for this decision tree of treatment protocol if the goal of the periodontal treatment is to achieve the remaining probing pocket depth of less than 3mm for adult chronic periodontitis and if the utilitarian philosophy to maximise the expected utility for the patients is advocated.
