This study was carried out by observing to composition of oxide on the surface of dental porcelain low gold alloy with various Indium additions according to the degassing and analysing the change composition of additional elements In on diffusion behaviors of Porcelain-matal surface. The specimens used were Au-Pd-Ag alloys by small indium addition. These specimens were treated for 10min at $1000^{\circ}C$ in vacuum condition. To investigate the microsturcture of oxidized alloy surface, SEM and EDAX were used, and EPMA were used to investigate the diffusion behaviors of porcelain-metal surface. X-ray diffraction were used to observe the morphological changes in the oxidation zone. The results of this study were obtained as follows ; 1) The hardness of alloy increased with increasing amount of In addition. 2) The formation of oxidation increased with increasing In content after heat treatment. 3) Diffusion of indium elements increased with increasing In content in metal-porcelain surface after firing. 4) The oxidations of alloy surface were mainly $In_2O_3$.
This study evaluated the mechanical properties of Ti-Cu alloys with the hope of developing an alloy for dental casting with better mechanical properties than unalloyed titanium. Ti-Cu alloys with four concentrations of Cu(2,5,10wt%) were made in an argon-arc melting furnace. The microstructure and micro-Vickers hardness were determined. X-ray diffraction pattern test was performed on the polished specimens. The microstructure of 2%Cu and 5%Cu alloys are shown acicular ${\alpha}Ti$ phase formed on the surfaces of previously formed $\beta$grains. The 10%Cu alloys has essentially a eutectoid structure; this structure includes lamella of ${\alpha}Ti$ and $Ti_2Cu$ phase that transformed from ${\alpha}Ti$ at the eutectoid temperature. The micro-Vickers hardness of CP Ti specimens was significantly(p<0.05) lower than that of any of the other alloys. Among the Ti-Cu alloys, the 10%Cu alloys exhibited a significantly(p<0.05) higher hardness value. but lower than that of Ti-6%Al-4%V alloy. From these results, it was concluded that new alloys for dental castings should be designed as Ti-Cu based alloys if other properties necessary for dental castings were obtained.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate to effect of the electro-polishing condition according to electrolyte temperature and current and polishing time on surface morphology and composition by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer(EDS) in dental casting Co-Cr-Mo alloys. Methods: 16 specimens were divided into 4 groups which have each 4 specimens. The size of specimens were 10mm wide and 5mm height. the electro-polishing of specimens are by polishing solution temperature and times in Co-Cr-Mo alloy by SEM and EDS analysis. Results: The results shows that most smooth surface is obtained when electro-polishing is performed at $49^{\circ}C$ for 30-40sec with electro gap of 10mm and 8 voltage. Conclusion: The morphologies of specimens after electro-polishing were scratch absent and significant between at $40^{\circ}C$ for 45sec and at $49^{\circ}C$ for 45sec.
Development of a dental Ni-Cr alloy system for porcelain veneering crown and bridge was studied in this research. The principles of alloy design were a) It should not contain toxic beryllium. b) It should have low melting Point. c) It should be easily ground and polished. d) It should possess an adequate strength to resist the deformational force In the mouth. e) It should be bondable Ivith porcelain by chemically. After investigating the effect of minor elements such as boron and rare earth metals on the mechanical properties of the Ni-Cr alloy system, the compromised ideal composition for dental use was determined. The composition was l9.6%, Cr, 5.6% Mo, 3.4% Si, 1, 0% Fe, 0.01% Ti, 0.5-1.0% B, 0.2-0.6% misch metal, balance Ni. To compare the performance of experimental alloy with commercially available alloys, the properties such as strength, melting point, and bond strength were measured. The results Ivere as follows: a) Boron increases the strength of the alloy but reduces the elongation. b) Misch metal increases the strength when the boron content is low, but does not increase the strength when boron content is high. And it reduces the elongation drastically, c) Mechanical strength of the experimental alloy was not superior to commercially available Be containing alloy, but handling performance such as castability, ease of granting and polishing, and cuttability were superior to the Be containing alloy.
Effects of hydrogenation on microstructure and mechanical properties of pure Ti and Ti-0.15Pd alloy have been studied by means of optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimeter(DSC), Xray diffraction and micro vicker's hardness test. Grain size of pure Ti and Ti-0.15Pd alloy decresed largely by hydrogenation finer than that of pure Ti and the grain size refinement was evedent in Ti-0.15Pd alloy than that in pure Ti. Ti-.015Pd alloy carried out solution treatment at 950$^{\circ}C$, the transformation of $\alpha$' martensite was occured. The amount of Hydrogen absorption in Ti-.015Pd alloy was higher than that in pure Ti. Decomposition of hydride in pure titanium and Ti-0.15Pd alloy increased largely by hydrogenation, and micro vicker's hardness of Ti-.015Pd alloy was largely than that of pure Ti by 30% after hydrogenation. The micro vicker's hardness of Ti-0.15Pd alloy after solution treatment and dehydrogenation were higher at $\beta$ phase ranger(950$^{\circ}C$) than that phase range(750$^{\circ}C$).
In this study, electrochemical impedance characteristics of anodic oxide layer formed on titanium ternary alloy surface have been investigated, Titanium oxide layers were grown on Ti-29Nb-xZr(x=3, 5, 7, 10 and 15 wt%) alloy substrates using phosphoric acid electrolytes.
In this study, the effect of niobium addition on the passivation behavior of Ti alloys in NaCl solution was investigated using various electrochemical methods. An ${\alpha}$-phase in Ti alloy was transformed into a ${\beta}$-phase and martensite structure decreased as Nb content increased. The corrosion and passivation current density($+300mV_{SCE}$) decreased as Nb content increased, and thereby a stable passive film was formed on the Ti alloy. Potential of Ti-xNb alloy in the passive region increased, whereas, current density decreased with time from results of potentiostatic and galvanostatic tests. Also, the corrosion morphology showed the smaller pits as Nb content increased. Consequently, Ti alloy contained high Nb content showed a good resistance to pitting corrosion in 0.9% NaCl solution.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the shear bond strength for non-precious alloy castings without beryllium, which has been used repeatedly for economical reason. Methods: The Schmitz-Schulmeyer test method was used to evaluate the shear bond strength between the non-beryllium Ni-Cr alloy Vera Bond 2V(AlbaDent, Inc. USA) and the Ceramco 3(Dentstply, York, PA, USA) porcelain powder. The maximum loading and shear bond strength were measured. The average shear strength(MPa) was analyzed with the one-way ANOVA and the Tukey's test( =.05). The fracture specimens were examined using Microscope to determine the failure pattern. Results: The mean shear bond strengths(SD) in MPa were group A(100% new metal) control 28.72(3.31); group B(50% new + 50% reused) 27.28(1.13); group C(all reused) 26.61(5.47). Microscope examination showed that group A and B specimens presented mixed failure, and group C specimens showed adhesive failure. Conclusion: In conclusion, forward this non-precious alloy dose not contain beryllium for how should use a more systematic study and for future advanced research is performed giving effect to be considered desirable.

PURPOSE. The present study was designed to examine the clinical fit of fixed dental prosthesis fabricated by the milling-sintering method using a presintered cobalt-chromium alloy. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two single metal-ceramic crowns were fabricated via milling-sintering method and casting method in each of the twelve consecutive patients who required an implant-supported fixed prosthesis. In the milling-sintering method, the prosthetic coping was designed in computer software, and the design was converted to a non-precious alloy coping using milling and post-sintering process. In the casting method, the conventional manual fabrication process was applied. The absolute marginal discrepancy of the prostheses was evaluated intraorally using the triple-scan technique. Statistical analysis was conducted using Mann-Whitney U test (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. Eight patients (66.7%) showed a lower marginal discrepancy of the prostheses made using the milling-sintering method than that of the prosthesis made by the casting method. Statistically, the misfit of the prosthesis fabricated using the milling-sintering method was not significantly different from that fabricated using the casting method (P=.782). There was no tendency between the amount of marginal discrepancy and the measurement point. CONCLUSION. The overall marginal fit of prosthesis fabricated by milling-sintering using a presintered alloy was comparable to that of the prosthesis fabricated by the conventional casting method in clinical use.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the surface treatment and shape of the dental alloy on the composition of the prosthetic work and its metallic ion release in a corrosive medium after casting. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Orion Argos (Pd-Ag) and Orion Vesta (Pd-Cu) were used to cast two crowns and two disks. One of each was polished while the other was not. Two as-received alloys were also studied making a total of 5 specimens per alloy type. The specimens were submersed for 7 days in a lactic acid/sodium chloride solution (ISO standard 10271) and evaluated for surface structure characterization using SEM/EDAX. The solutions were quantitatively analysed for the presence of metal ions using ICP-MS and the results were statistically analysed with one-way ANOVA and a Tukey post-hoc test. RESULTS. Palladium is released from all specimens studied (range $0.06-7.08{\mu}g{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}week^{-1}$), with the Pd-Cu alloy releasing the highest amounts. For both types of alloys, ion release of both disk and crown pairs were statistically different from the as-received alloy except for the Pd-Ag polished crown (P>.05). For both alloy type, disk-shaped pairs and unpolished specimens released the highest amounts of Pd ions (range $0.34-7.08{\mu}g{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}week^{-1}$). Interestingly, in solutions submerged with cast alloys trace amounts of unexpected elements were measured. CONCLUSION. Shape and surface treatment influence ion release from dental alloys; polishing is a determinant factor. The release rate of cast and polished Pd alloys is between $0.06-0.69{\mu}g{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}week^{-1}$, which is close to or exceeding the EU Nickel Directive 94/27/EC compensated for the molecular mass of Pd ($0.4{\mu}g{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}week^{-1}$). The composition of the alloy does not represent the element release, therefore we recommend manufacturers to report element release after ISO standard corrosion tests beside the original composition.
