Handover is one of the most important factors that may degrade the performance of TCP connections and real-time applications in wireless data networks. We proposed a seamless handover with Motion Prediction in IEEE 802.16e-based broadband wireless access networks. By intergrating MAC and network layer handovers efficiently, this scheme minimizes the handover delay and eliminates packet losses during handover Simulations show that this scheme achieves loss-free packet delivery without packet duplication and increases TCP throughput significantly.
Quay cranes are considered core equipment for container terminal operation. However, unmanned operation systems have not as yet been announced due to the technological difficulties of implementation. In this paper, we developed a wireless controller to control a quay crane simulator remotely and conducted its performance test, a first step toward unmanned operation of quay cranes. The communication delay of a developed wireless controller was about 9.4ms on average while that of existing wired controllers was about 5.6ms. The same functions were implemented and tested on a smart phone where the average communication delay was 7.3ms. In addition, to apply the developed system into a real environment, we proposed a network architecture based on IEEE 802.11ac and carried out its performance evaluation. When the distance between two nodes was 50m apart, the throughputs of the TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol) were 57Mbps and 189Mbps, respectively. The communication delay of the control data was 9.1ms through the TCP channel. These results reveal the proper working of remote quay crane operation if we adopt the IEEE 802.11ac network.

Active queue management (AQM) is a leading congestion control system, which can keep smaller queuing delay, less packet loss with better network utilization and throughput by intentionally dropping the packets at the intermediate hubs in TCP/IP (transmission control protocol/Internet protocol) networks. To accelerate the responsiveness of AQM framework, proportional-integral-differential (PID) controllers are utilized. In spite of its simplicity, it can effectively take care of a range of complex problems; however it is a lot complicated to track down optimal PID parameters with conventional procedures. A few new strategies have been grown as of late to adjust the PID controller parameters. Therefore, in this paper, we have developed a Squirrel search based PID controller to dynamically find its controller gain parameters for AQM. The controller gain parameters are decided based on minimizing the integrated-absolute error (IAE) in order to ensure less packet loss, high link utilization and a stable queue length in favor of TCP networks.

A basic access method about IEEE 802.11 MAC layer protocol using IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs is the DCF thatis based on the CSMA/CA. But, cause of IEEE 802.11 MAC layer uses original backoff algorithm (exponential backoff method), when collision occurred, the size of contention windows increases the double size Also, a time of packet transmission delay increases and efficienty is decreased by original backoff scheme. In this paper, we have analyzed TCP packet transmission time of IEEE 802.11 MAC DCF protocol for wireless LANs a proposed enhanced backoff algorithm. It is considered the transmission time of transmission control protocol (TCP) packet on the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in additive white gaussian noise (A WGN) and Rician fading channel. From the results, a proposed enhanced backoff algorithm produces a better performance improvement than an original backoff in wireless LAN environment. Also, in OFDM/quadrature phase shift keying channel (QPSK), we can achieve that the transmission time in wireless channel decreases as the TCP packet size increases and based on the data collected, we can infer the correlation between packet size and the transmission time, allowing for an inference of the optimal packet size in the TCP layer.

TCP is ill-suited to real-time multimedia applications. Its bursty transmission, and abrupt and frequent wide rate fluctuations cause high delay jitters and sudden quality degradation of multimedia applications. Deploying non congestion controlled traffic results in extreme unfairness towards competing TCP traffic. Therefore, they need to be enhanced with congestion control schemes that not only am at reducing loss ratios and improve bandwidth utilization but also are fair towards competing TCP connections. This paper proposes a differentiated rate adaptation algorithm based on loss and round trip time. Rate in a sender quickly responds to loss ratio and holds steady state. Additionally, this algorithm reduces loss ratio by loss prediction in a receiver.
IEEE 802.11a 무선 LAN에서 사용하는 임의 접근 방식은 CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance)에 기반한 DCF(Distributed Coordination Function)방식이다.
