Analyses of Larg Cell Area MCFC System Dynamics (대면적 용융탄산염 연료전지 시스템 동특성 분석)

  • The steady state and dynamic characteristics of large cell area MCFC stacks were analyzed to solve the problems such as temperature difference generated in stacks and pressure difference between anode and cathode. Manipulated variables (current density, duel utilization rate, oxidant utilization rate) and controlled variables (temperature difference, anode and cathode pressure difference) which had an important effect on the MCFC stack performance were determined using operation results of two types of MCFC stacks (5kW (3,000 $\textrm{cm}^2$, 20 ea). 3kW (6,000 $\textrm{cm}^2$, 5ea)). The stability and transfer function representing system dynamics were obtained by steady state gain rate which showed the relative change between MVs and CVs. The transfer function was a 3$\times$3 matrix and a typical first order system without time delay. The optimal operating condition of large cell area MCFC stacks could be determined by analyzing dynamic characteristics. In case of a 5 kW MCFC stack, pressurized operation with recycle flow should be used to control the outlet temperature less than 68$0^{\circ}C$ and to control the MCFC system effectively. MIMO control or decoupler should be used to remove the interaction between MVs and CVs. This result will be used as important data in determining the control structure design and operation mode of large cell area MCFC systems in the future.

Internetworking strategy between MANET and WLAN for Extending Hot-Spot of WLAN based on HMIPv6 (HMIPv6를 기반으로 한 무선 랜과 이동 애드 혹 네트워크 간의 인터네트워킹 기법)

  • For extending of hot-spot of WLAN, (2) proposes internetworking scheme between wireless LAN (WLAN) and mobile ad-hoc network (MANET), which employ the same layer-2 protocol with different mode. Compared to internetworking schemes between UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications Systems) and WLAN (3-4), the scheme from (2) has relatively low overhead and latencies because WLAN and MANET are physically and logically similar to each other. However, the mode switching algorithm proposed in r2] for internetworking between WLAN and MANET only considers signal strength and determines handoff, and mobile nodes following a zigzag course in pollution area may perform handoff at short intervals. Furthermore, (2) employs mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) at base, which brings still high delay on handoff and overhead due to signal message exchange. In this paper, we present optimized internetworking scheme between WLAN and MANET, modified from (2). To settle ping-pong handoff from (2), we propose adaptive mode switching algorithm. HMIPv6 is employed for IP connectivity and mobility service in WLAN, which solves some shortcomings, such as high handoff overhead and vulnerable security. For routing in MANET, OLSR is employed, which is a proactive Protocol and has optimally reduced signal broadcasting overhead. OLSR operates with current P protocol compatibly with no change or modification. The proposed internetworking scheme based on adaptive mode switching algorithm shows better performance than scheme from (2).

Performance Verification of WAVE Communication Technology for Railway Application (차량용 무선통신기술(WAVE)의 철도 적용을 위한 성능검증)

  • Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) communication technology, which provides vehicleto-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication and offers safe and convenient service, has been developed for application to an Intelligent Transport System (ITS). This paper provides field test results on a study of the feasibility of WAVE technology application to railway communication systems. A test railway communication system based on WAVE technology has been built along the Daebul line and a newly developed EMU. Field tests have been carried out according to the communication function requirements for LTE - R. The test results show that the railway communication system based on WAVE technology meets the functional requirements: maximum transmission length is 730m, maximum transfer delay is 5.69ms, and maximum interruption time is 1.36s; other tests including throughput test, video data transmission test, VoIP data test, and channel switching test also produced results that meets the functional requirements. These results suggest that WAVE technology can be applied to the railway communication system, enabling Vehicle-to-Wayside communication.

A Study on the Structural Reinforcement for the Reduction of Transverse Vibration by Ship's Main Engine (선박 주기관에 의한 횡진동 저감을 위한 구조보강 연구)

  • Transverse vibrations of a ship's aft end and deckhouse are mainly induced by transverse exciting forces from the main engine. Resonance should be avoided in the initial design stages when there is a prediction of resonance between the main engine and transverse modes of the deckhouse. Estimates of frequencies for resonance avoidance are possible from the specifications of the main engine and propeller, but the inherent vibration frequency of the structure around the engine room is not easy to estimate due to the variation in the shape. Experience-oriented vibration design is also carried out, which results in many problems, such as process delay, over-injection of on-site personnel, and iterative performance of the design. For the flexible design of 8,600 TEU container vessels, this study addressed the resonance problem caused by the transverse vibration of the main engine when only the main engine was changed from 12 cylinders to 10 cylinders without modification of the hull structure layout. Efficient structural reinforcement design guidelines are presented for avoiding resonances with the main engine lateral vibration and the structure around the engine room. The guidelines are expected to be used as practical design guidelines at design sites.

  • The growth of mobile devices in Internet of Things (IoT) leads to a number of intelligent buildings related IoT applications. For instance, home automation controlling system uses client system such web apps on smartphone or web service to access the home server by sending control commands. The home server receives the command, then controls for instance the light system. The gateway based RESTful technology responsible for handling clients' requests attests an internet latency in case a large number of clients' requests submit toward the gateway increases. In this paper, we propose the design tasks of the IoT gateway for handling concurrency events. In the procedure of designing tasks, concurrency is best understood by employing multiple levels of abstraction. The way that is eminently to accomplish concurrency is to build an object-oriented environment with support for messages passing between concurrent objects. We also investigate the performance of event-driven architecture for building IoT gateway using node.js on one side and communication protocol based message-oriented middleware known as XMPP to handle communications of intelligent building control devices connected to the gateway through a centralized hub. The Node.JS is 40% faster than the traditional web server side features thread-based approach. The use of Node.js server-side handles a large number of clients' requests, then therefore, reduces delay in performing predefined actions automatically in intelligent building IoT environment.

  • In this paper, we propose effective Deblocking Filter hardware architecture for High Efficiency Video Coding encoder. we propose Deblocking Filter hardware architecture with less processing time, filter ordering for low area design, effective memory architecture and four-pipeline for a high performance HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) encoder. Proposed filter ordering can be used to reduce delay according to preprocessing. It can be used for realtime single-port SRAM read and write. it can be used in parallel processing by using two filters. Using 10 memory is effective for solving the hazard caused by a single-port SRAM. Also the proposed filter can be used in low-voltage design by using clock gating architecture in 4-pipeline. The proposed Deblocking Filter encoder architecture is designed by Verilog HDL, and implemented by 100k logic gates in TSMC $0.18{\mu}m$ process. At 150MHz, the proposed Deblocking Filter encoder can support 4K Ultra HD video encoding at 30fps, and can be operated at a maximum speed of 200MHz.

  • This paper describes the development and measurement results of a wide-band planar active phase array antenna system for an electronic warfare jamming transmitter. The system is designed as an $8{\times}8$ triangular lattice array using a $45^{\circ}$ slant wide-band antenna. The 64-element transmission channel is composed of a wide-band gallium nitride(GaN) solid state power amplifier and a gallium arsenide(GaAs) multi-function core chip(MFC). Each GaAs MFC includes a true-time delay circuit to avoid a wide-band beam squint, a digital attenuator, and a GaAs drive amplifier to electronically steer the transmitted beam over a ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ azimuth angle and ${\pm}25^{\circ}$ elevation angle scan. Measurement of the transmitted beam pattern is conducted using a near-field measurement facility. The EIRP of the designed system, which is 9.8 dB more than the target EIRP performance(P), and the ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ azimuth and ${\pm}25^{\circ}$ elevation beam steering fulfill the desired specifications.

A Study on Degradation Phenomenon Based on Test Device for Aging Diagnosis in PV Modules (태양광모듈의 열화진단 시험장치 구현 및 열화특성에 관한 연구)

  • Generally, a proper evaluation method of the aging phenomenon of PV modules is required as the electrical performance and lifespan of PV modules can degrade significantly due to several environmental factors, while they are generally known as devices that are used semi-permanently for more than 20 years. On the other hand, there is a lack of objectivity in the existing evaluation method of the aging phenomenon, which compares the adjusted PV output based on STC with the initial PV module specifications due to the data distortion while adjusting the measured data. Therefore, this study implemented a test device for an aging diagnosis to measure and collect actual data from a PV module section and modeled the data for aging using MATLAB S/W to minimize the variability of the PV output, communication error, and delay. Furthermore, this study confirmed the usefulness of the presented test device for aging diagnosis of the PV modules by diagnosing the total period and yearly-basis degradation rate of aging PV modules as 25.73% and 1.55%, respectively, according to the on-site output characteristics of the PV modules by season.

  • Recent trends in mobile device market whose services are rapidly expanding to provide wireless internet access are drawing people's attention to mobile security. Especially, since threats to information leakage are reaching to the critical level due to the frequent interchange of important data such as personal and financial information through wireless internet, various encryption algorithms has been developed to protect them. The encryption algorithms confront the serious threats by the appearance of side channel attack (SCA) which uses the physical leakage information such as timing, and power consumption, though the their robustness to threats is theoretically verified. Against the threats of SCA, researches including the performance and development direction of SCA should precede. Among tile SCA methods, the power analysis (PA) attack overcome this misalignment problem. The conventional methods require large computational power and they do not effectively deal with the delay changes in a power trace. To overcome the limitation of the conventional methods, we proposed a novel alignment method using peak matching. By computer simulations, we show the advantages of the proposed method compared to the conventional alignment methods.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Effects of Simultaneous Dual-Task Training on Executive Function in Older Adults (동시적 이중과제 훈련이 노인의 실행기능에 미치는 효과: 체계적 고찰 및 메타분석)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of simultaneous dual-task training to assess executive function in older adults. Methods : We searched the PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, Web of Science, and RISS databases of publicated studies in the past decade. Seven studies were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Qualitative assessment and meta-analysis were performed for the seven studies. Results : A randomized controlled trial design was used in the selected studies, and PEDro Scores above seven were obtained. The Trial Making Test (TMT) evaluated the effects of dual-task training on executive function in four studies. The Color Trail Test (CTT) was used in two studies, and Stroop test was used in three studies. The effect size for total executive function was 0.38, which was small. The effect sizes for TMT and CTT were 0.37. Stroop Test was 0.34, demonstrating that their effect sizes were also small. Only significant effects in total executive function, TMT, and CTT showed significant effects (all p<0.05). Conclusion : This study confirmed that dual-task training was effective in improving executive function in older adults. To improve the effectiveness of dual-task training, the difficulty of the dual-task training should be considered. It is also necessary to implement assessments that can evaluate performance under dual-task conditions as well as conventional test tools for executive function. In the future, dual-task training could be used as an appropriate intervention for executive function in older adults to delay the onset of dementia.
