  • A differential display for the expression profiles of wild-type Cryphonectria parasitica and its virally-infected isogenic hypovirulent strain revealed several transcripts of interest, which evidenced significant matches with fungal genes of known function. Among which, we have further analyzed an amplified PCR product with significant sequence similarity to the known fungal stress-responsive thioredoxin gene from Neurospora crassa. The product of the cloned thioredoxin gene, CpTrx1, consists of 117 amino acids, with a predicted molecular mass of 13.0 kDa and a pI of 5.4. Sequence comparisons demonstrated that the deduced protein sequence of the CpTrx1 gene evidenced a high degree of homology to all known thioredoxins, with the highest degree of homology with trx1, a thioredoxin gene from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and evidenced a preservation of the conserved hall markresidues (Trp-Cys-Gly-Pro-Cys) at the active site of thioredoxin. The E. coli-generated CpTRX1 manifested thioredoxin activity, according to the insulin reduction assay, which indicates that the cloned gene does indeed encode for the C. parasitica thioredoxin.

  • Let G be a chemical graph with vertex set {v1, v1, …, vn} and degree sequence d(G) = (degG(v1), degG(v2), …, degG(vn)). The inverse degree, R(G) of G is defined as $R(G)={\sum{_{i=1}^{n}}}\;{\frac{1}{deg_G(v_i)}}$. The cyclomatic number of G is defined as γ = m - n + k, where m, n and k are the number of edges, vertices and components of G, respectively. In this paper, some upper bounds on the diameter of a chemical graph in terms of its inverse degree are given. We also obtain an ordering of connected chemical graphs with respect to the inverse degree.

  • A cDNA library of Ganoderma lucidum has been constructed using a Zap Express cloning vector. A glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene (gpd) was isolated from this library by hybridization of the recombinant phage clones with a gpd-specific gene probe generated by PCR. By comparison of the cDNA and the genomic DNA sequences, it was found that the complete nucleotide sequence encodes a putative polypeptide chain of 338 amino acids interrupted by 6 introns. The predicted amino acid sequence of this gene shows a high degree of sequence similarity to the GPD proteins from yeast and filamentous fungi. The promoter region contains a CT-rich stretch, two CAAT boxes, and a consensus TATA box. The possibility of using the gpd promoter in the construction of new transformation vectors is discussed.

  • Let A be the mod p Steenrod algebra for p an arbitrary odd prime and S the sphere spectrum localized at p. In this paper, some useful propositions about the May spectral sequence are first given, and then, two new nontrivial homotopy elements ${\alpha}_1{\jmath}{\xi}_n\;(p{\geq}5,n\;{\geq}\;3)\;and\;{\gamma}_s{\alpha}_1{\jmath}{\xi}_n\;(p\;{\geq}\;7,\;n\;{\geq}\;4)$ are detected in the stable homotopy groups of spheres, where ${\xi}_n\;{\in}\;{\pi}_{p^nq+pq-2}M$ is obtained in [2]. The new ones are of degree 2(p - 1)($p^n+p+1$) - 4 and 2(p - 1)($p^n+sp^2$ + sp + (s - 1)) - 7 and are represented up to nonzero scalar by $b_0h_0h_n,\;b_0h_0h_n\tilde{\gamma}_s\;{\neq}\;0\;{\in}\;Ext^{*,*}_A^(Z_p,\;Z_p)$ in the Adams spectral sequence respectively, where $3\;{\leq}\;s\;<\;p-2$.

  • This paper presents a method of a line balanced assembly sequence generation based on the verification of a disassemblability and a work time. To derive the disassemblability for a part to be disassembled, first we inference collision free assembly directions by extracting separable directions fur the part. And we determine the disassemblability defined by the separability and stability cost. The separability cost represents a facility of the part disassembly operation, and the stability cost which represents a degree of the stability for the base assembly motion. Based upon the results, we propose a new approach of evaluating work time using neural networks. The proposed assembly sequence generation provides an effective means of solving the line balancing problem and gives a design guidance of planning assembly lay-out in flexible manufacturing application. Example study is given to illustrate the concepts and procedure of the proposed schemes.

  • There is a one to one correspondence between Artinian algebras $k[x_1,...,x_n]/Ann(M)$ and finitely generated $k[x_1,...,x_n]-submodules$ M of $k[y_1,...,y_n]$ by Inverse System. In particular, any Artinian level algebra $k[x_1,...,x_n]/Ann(M)$ can be obtained when M is finitely generated by only maximal degree generators. We prove that H = (1, 4, 8, 13,..., 27, 8, 2) is not a level Artinian O-sequence using this inverse system.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to suggest objective basic data for the environmental design through the quantitative analysis of the visual quality included in the physical environment of Basemsagol valley sequence landscape. For this, visual volumes of physical elements have been evaluated by using the mesh analysis, spatial images structure of physical elements have been analyzed by factor analysis algorithm, and degree of visual quality have been measured mainly by questionnaires. Also, this study aims to understand semiotics and to grope the possibility of application to the sequence landscape assessment. A semiological approach suggests a new dimension in sequence landscape assessment, which is a contrast to the existing scientific evaluation methods. Result of this thesis can be summarized as follows. Visual volumes of the immediate vegetation, rock, bridge, road and distant vegetation are found to be the main factor determining the visual quality. Factors covering the spatial image of natural park sequence landscape have been found to be the overall synthetic evaluation, potentiality, natural quality, spatial, appeal and dignity. By using the control method for the number of factors, T.V. has been obtained as 40.22%. The characteristics of the semiological approach is qualitative, open, holistic, and experiential, whereas that of the scientific approach is quantitative, closed, reductive, and experimental.

  • To preserve scenic-view of Gwanak Mountain from the urban development, the viewshed component ratio and the scenic-view preference are investigated and analyzed by selecting view points at Nangokro. After 16 candidate view points are selected from the site, sight component ratio is measured through visual structure analysis and preference are measured by using the Likert scale. In addition, factor analysis, and regression analysis were conducted to examine the relationship between influencing factors and preference. As a result of the regression analysis of the 9 factors to influence the scenic-view preference, two factors such as degree of natural landscape and degree of arrangement around the site are chosen to influence the scenic-view preference. Through the preference factor analysis, two preference factors are selected as follows; 1) The factor of the landscape formation - Existence and nonexistence of the scenic-view conservation, degree of the landscape opening, and degree of natural landscape, degree of the landscape originality, and degree of the landscape sequence, degree of the landscape intimacy 2) The factor surrounding the landscape - Degree of arrangement around the site, degree of the landscape complexity, and atmosphere around the site.
