  • In rotating machinery, unbalance and misalignment are major concerns in vibration. Unbalance can be eliminated by balancing procedure to some degree. but little work has been done on the vibrations that occur in a misaligned rotor system. Currently, no generalized theoretical model based on a rotor system with flexible coupling is available to describe the vibrations caused by misalignment. As a part of systematic investigation on the misalignment, first of all, the study on flexible coupling with misalignment should be preceded. In this study, the geometry and reaction force and moment of a gear coupling with misalignment was investigated, also the theoretical model of a gear coupling with misalignment was presented by using the relationship between geometry and moment of gear coupling. It is expected that the proposed procedure can be applied to derive the theoretical model of other couplings.

How Is the RMB Exchange Rate Misaligned? A Recent Application of Behavioral Equilibrium Exchange Rate (BEER) to China

  • The aim of this paper is to estimate the degree of RMB misalignment from its equilibrium exchange rate by applying the Behavioral Equilibrium Exchange Rate (BEER) approach. We employ monthly data with reference to China's top 20 trading partners covering the period of 1997 to 2012. We find that the RMB was slightly overvalued before 2001 and significantly undervalued by up to 20 per cent in the end of 2006. There is evidence showing that the RMB approached to its equilibrium level from 2007 to 2008. However, the global financial crisis interrupted the trend of declining misalignment of RMB exchange rate. The RMB's total misalignment increased to around 25 per cent in the mid-2011 mainly because the RMB was re-pegged to the US dollar and some currencies of China's main trading partners depreciated during the period of crisis. More recently, the degree of RMB misalignment slightly declined since 2012 when the RMB proceeded to appreciate and China's ratio of current account surplus to GDP dropped considerably. Our findings prove that there is a trend of the RMB approaching to its equilibrium exchange rate since 2007 except for the period of crisis.

  • This study investigates the key determinants of exchange rate (RER) misalignment for the period 1991 to 2020. The BEER technique has been used to estimate the degree of the equilibrium exchange rate. To explore the actual exchange rate misalignment and to assess the behavior of variables that are different in different regimes of undervaluation and overvaluation, the nonlinear technique of Markov regime-switching (MSM) was applied. The mean and variance of each regime are highly significant and show that undervaluation episodes have a low mean (116.139) and more volatility (1.229) while overvaluation episodes have a high mean (126.732) with less volatility (0.871). The findings show that MSM accurately identifies exchange rate misalignment in both regimes as separate incidents of overvaluation and undervaluation. Results further depict that misalignment of the RER is affected by terms of trade, net foreign assets, interest differential, government investment, and consumption decision. Results recommend that if policymakers want to use the exchange rate as a policy tool, they must first consider the drivers of the equilibrium exchange rate. As a result, any deliberate actions to address exchange rate misalignment must focus on the underlying fundamentals that drive the exchange rate.

  • A High-degree Cubature Kalman Filter (CKF) is proposed to deal with the Strapdown Inertial Navigation System (SDINS) alignment problem. In-flight Alignment (IFA) is an effective method to compensate for attitude errors of the navigation system. While providing precise attitude error compensation, however, the external source aided alignment often creates a nonlinear filtering problem caused by a large misalignment angle. Introduced recently, Cubature Kalman Filter is a suitable technique for various nonlinear problems. In this paper, a higher degree CKF is applied to this accuracy-is-everything SDINS IFA problem. The simulation results show that the proposed technique outperformed a traditional nonlinear filter in terms of precision and alignment time.

  • The influence of aerated oil on high-speed journal bearing is examined by classical thermohydrodynamic lubrication theory coupled with analytical models for viscosity and density of aerated oil in fluid-film bearing. Convection to the walls, mixing with supply oil and re-circulating oil, and some degree of journal misalignment are considered. The considered Parameters for the study of bubbly lubrication are oil aeration level, air bubble size, shaft misalignment and shaft speed. The results show that deliberate oil aeration can more clearly bring on the increasing load capacity under high-speed operation of plain journal hearing than previous normal speed operation. And the load capacity may be increased more by oil aeration under the conditions of shaft misalignment and the increasing speed.

  • Within some degree of journal misalignment, maximum pressure, maximum temperature, bearing load, friction and side leakage in high-speed journal bearing operation are examined under the condition of variable density and specific heat. The results are compared with the calculation results under the conditions of constant density and specific heat, and variable density and constant specific heat. It is found that the effects of variable density and specific heat on shaft misalignment are significant in determining the load capacity of a journal bearing operating at high speed.

  • Vibration of a BLDC motor is a coupled phenomenon between mechanical characteristics and magnetic origins through the motor air-gap. When a relative misalignment of rotor in the air-gap center exists on the assemblage it is considered to influence the motor system characteristics, depending on the degree of misalignment. The rotor-motor system used in a washing machine is modeled using FE-TM and a magnetic force of BLDC motor with radial rotor eccentricity is analyzed. And the transient whirl responses of a rotor system with relative misalignment in the motor air-gap are investigated considering mechanical origins and magnetic effects. Results show that rotor misalignment in the air-gap affect the vibration of the rotor-motor system.

  • Under the condition of variable density and specific heat, maximum pressure, maximum temperature, bearing load, friction and side leakage in high-speed journal bearing operation are examined within some degree of Journal misalignment. The results are compared with the calculation results under the conditions of constant density and specific heat, and variable density and constant specific heat. It is found that the condition of variable density and specific heat play important roles in determining friction and load of Journal bearing at high speed operation.

For this purpose, analytical models for viscosity and density of aerated oil in fluid-film bearing are applied. Convection to the walls, mixing with supply oil and re-circulating oil, and some degree of journal misalignment are considered. The results show that deliberate oil aeration can increase the load capacity of high-speed plain Journal bearing. And the load capacity is increased more by oil aeration under the conditions of shaft misalignment and higher speed.

  • "China's Western Development Policy" has brought multiple opportunities to the development of tourism in Southwest China including Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Chongqing and Tibet. The 4 provinces and 1 municipality overall show a certain degree of accumulation effect and coordinated development in tourism due to their location, traffic and traditional economic cooperation. This study takes the Southwest China as the research object and utilized the spatial dislocation model and the tourism spatial misalignment index to estimate the mismatch degree between tourism resources and tourism income among provinces and try to find out the internal reason background. The results show that each of the five provinces has its own advantages in index of economy, tourism resources, human resource, and transportation, leading to differences in the center of gravity of the entire region in all aspects. In view of the results of spatial dislocation analysis, suggestions for improvement and optimization are put forward to promote the high-quality development of tourism in Southwest region. development.
