Vinyl acetate was polymerized in ultraviolet-ray initiated bulk system at low temperatures using 2,2-azobis(2,4-dimethylvaleronitrile) (ADMVN) or 2,2-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) as the photoinitiator, respectively. High molecular weight (HMW) poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) having number-average degree of polymerization ($P_n$) of 3,900-7,800 and syndiotactic diad (S-diad) content of 52.5-54.0% could be prepared by complete saponification of synthesized linear poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) having $P_n$ 5,900-9,400 obtained at conversion of below 30%. $P_n$ of PVA using ADMVN was larger than that of PVA using AIBN. On the other hand, conversion of the former was smaller than that of the latter, and it was found that the initiation rate of the ADMVN was lower than that of AIBN. This could be explained by a fact that the rate of photolysis of AIBN is faster than that of ADMVN due to the higher quantum yield or dissociation rate constant of AIBN than that of ADMVN. The $P_n$, syndiotacticity, and whiteness of PVA from PVAc polymerized at lower temperatures were superior to those of PVA from PVAc polymerized at higher temperatures.
Dextran-5-(4-ethoxycarbonylphenylazo)salicylic acid ester(Dextran-5-ESA) was synthesized as a potential colon-specific prodrug of 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA). No free 5-(4-eth oxycarbonylphenylazo) salicylic acid (5-ESA) was detected when the chemical stability of dextran-5-ESA was tested at pH 1.2, or pH 6.8 bath solution, Effects of the degree of substitution (DS) and molecular weight of dextran on the depolymerization by dextranase was investigated. Depolymerization(%) decreased with increasing DS, and was not affected by M.W. of dextran. The extent of prodrug conversion after incubation in the contents of various G.I. Tract segments of rats was evaluated. 5-ASA was released in the cecal contents, but not in the contents of proximal small intestine (PSI) or distal small intestine (DSI). No significant prodrug conversion was observed in the cecal contents of rats pretreated with kanamycin sulfate, which indicated that microbial enzymes were responsible for the cleavage of the prodrug.
The bioconversion of progesterone by Aspergillus phoenicis has been studied. The metabolism in the conditions of experiment gave $11{\alpha}-hydroxyprogesterone$ as main product. The concentration of $11{\alpha}-hydroxyprogesterone$ increased monotonically and leveled off after 40 hours of incubation. Addition of glucose into the medium reduced considerably the time for attaining limiting concentration of $11{\alpha}-hydroxyprogesterone$. The increase in initial progesterone concentration did not affected the percentage of conversion nor the time required for termination of the reaction. But it could not be represented as first order reaction with respect to progesterone concentration. The degree of inhibition of enzymes by organic solvents depended upon the concentration of solvents. At low solvent concentration, acetone proved to yield the highest conversion.

The effect of novel N-crotyl-N,N-dimethyl-4-methylanilinium hexafluroantimonate (CMH) curing agent on cure behavior and thermal properties of DGEBA epoxy cationic system was investigated. From DSC measurements of DGEBA/CMH system, it was shown that this system exhibits an excellent thermal latent characteristic in a given temperature and reveals complex cure behavior as indicated by multiple exotherms. The conversion and conversion rate of DGEBA/CMH system increased with increasing the concentration of initiator due to high activity of CMH. Viscoelastic properties during gel formation of DGEBA with CMH were investigated by rheological techniques under isothermal condition. The gel time obtained from the modulus crossover. point t(G')=G", was affected by high curing temperature and concentration of CMH, resulting in high degree of network formation in cationic polymerization. The thermal stabilities were discussed in terms of the activation energy for decomposition and thermal factors determined from TGA measurements.ents.

Diesel engine has many advantages such as high thermal efficiency, low fuel consumption and low emission of CO2. However, the diesel engine faced with strengthened emission regulation about NOx and PM. To suppress NOx emission, after-treatment systems such as Lean NOx Trap (LNT), Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) are considered as a more practical strategy. This paper investigated the performance of Lean NOx trap of the 4 stroke diesel engine which had a LNT catalyst. Characteristic of exhaust emission at NEDC mode was analyzed. From this result, the effect of nozzle attaching degree, injection quantity and gas flow change on NOx conversion performance was clarified.
We present a piezoelectric energy harvester with stopper-engaged dynamic magnifier which is capable of significantly increasing the operating bandwidth and the energy (power) harvested from a broad range of low frequency vibrations (<30 Hz). It uses a mass-loaded polymer beam (primary spring-mass system) that works as a dynamic magnifier for another mass-loaded piezoelectric beam (secondary spring-mass system) clamped on primary mass, constituting a two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) system. Use of polymer (polycarbonate) as the primary beam allows the harvester not only to respond to low frequency vibrations but also generates high impulsive force while the primary mass engages the base stopper. Upon excitation, the dynamic magnifier causes mechanical impact on the base stopper and transfers a secondary shock (in the form of impulsive force) to the energy harvesting element resulting in an increased strain in it and triggers nonlinear frequency up-conversion mechanism. Therefore, it generates almost four times larger average power and exhibits over 250% wider half-power bandwidth than those of its conventional 2-DOF counterpart (without stopper). Experimental results indicate that the proposed device is highly applicable to vibration energy harvesting in automobiles.

Reduction reactivity and carbon deposition characteristics of mass produced oxygen carrier particle(OCN-650) have been investigated by using hydrogen, methane, syngas, and natural gas as fuels. For all fuels, the maximum conversion and oxygen transfer capacity increased as the temperature increase. The reduction rate and the oxygen transfer rate increased as the temperature increase for methane. However, those values showed maximum at 900$^{\circ}C$ for hydrogen, syngas, and natural gas. To explain consistently the change of maximum conversion, reduction rate, oxygen transfer capacity, oxygen transfer rate and degree of carbon deposition for different fuels, new parameters such as reactive carbon contents and require oxygen per input gas were adopted.
A novel method for production of concentrated purity maltose using swollen extruded corn starch was investigated. Degree of gelatinization of extruded starch suitable for maltose formation was found to be around 70%. The optimal amiunt of enzyme was 400 unit fungal $\alpha $-amylase per g of starch, and the reaction time was 12 hours. At extruded starch concentration of 300 g/l(w/v), maltose concentration and content were reached up to 220 g/l(w/v) and 77%(w/w), respectively. The maltose forming reaction was also successfully proceeded at high starch concentration of 700 g/l(w/v), however, the conversion yield and content were decreased. By the addition of extruded starch by fed-batch wise, the maltose concentration, purity, and conversion yield could be improved up to 465 g/l(w/v), 70%(w/w), and 0.63, respectively. The investigated maltose production process seems to have many potential advantages over the conventional process utilizing liquefied starch, and the feasibility for industrial application needs to be evaluated.
In this paper, the position control of a detuned indirect field oriented control (IFOC) induction motor drive is studied. A proposed Simple-Neuro-Controllers (SNCs) are designed and analyzed to achieve high-dynamic performance both in the position command tracking and load regulation characteristics for robotic applications. The proposed SNCs are trained on-line based on the back propagation algorithm with a modified error function. Four SNCs are developed for position, speed and d-q axes stator currents respectively. Also, a synchronous proportional plus integral-derivative (PI-D) two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) position controller and PI-D speed controller are designed for an ideal IFOC induction motor drive with the desired dynamic response. The performance of the proposed SNCs and synchronous PI-D 2DOF position controllers for detuned field oriented induction motor servo drive is investigated. Simulation results show that the proposed SNCs controllers provide high-performance dynamic characteristics which are robust with regard to motor parameter variations and external load disturbance. Furthermore, comparing the SNC position controller with the synchronous PI-D 2DOF position controller demonstrates the superiority of the proposed SNCs controllers due to attain a robust control performance for IFOC induction motor servo drive system.
Background: Culturing wild ginseng adventitious root using plant factory technology provides genetic safety and high productivity. This production technology is drawing attention in the fields of functional raw materials and product development. The cultivation method using elicitors is key technology for controlling biomass and increasing secondary metabolites. Methods and Results: Elicitor treatments using methyl jasmonate, pyruvic acid, squalene, β-sistosterol were performed to amplify total ginsenosides (Rb1, Rc, Rb2, Rb3, and Rd) of cultured wild ginseng adventitious root. Thereafter, fermentation and steaming processes were performed to convert total ginsenosides into minor molecular ginsenosides (Rg3, Rk1, and Rg5). The result indicated that methyl jasmonate minimizes the reduction in fresh weight of cultured wild ginseng adventitious root and maximizes total ginsenosides (sum of Rb1, Rc, Rb2, Rb3, and Rd). Ginsenoside conversion results showed a maximum degree of conversion of 131 mg/g. Conclusions: In this study, we demonstrated that the optimal elicitor treatment method increased the content of total ginsenosides, while the steaming and fermentation processing method increased the content of minor ginsenosides.
