This paper presents dynamic modelling of a virtual object in augmented reality environments when external forces are applied to the object in real-time fashion. In order to simulate a natural behavior of the object we employ the theory of Newtonian physics to construct motion equation of the object according to the varying external forces applied to the AR object. In dynamic modelling process, the physical interaction is taken placed between the augmented object and the physical object such as a haptic input device and the external forces are transferred to the object. The intrinsic properties of the augmented object are either rigid or elastically deformable (non-rigid) model. In case of the rigid object, the dynamic motion of the object is simulated when the augmented object is collided with by the haptic stick by considering linear momentum or angular momentum. In the case of the non-rigid object, the physics-based simulation approach is adopted since the elastically deformable models respond in a natural way to the external or internal forces and constraints. Depending on the characteristics of force caused by a user through a haptic interface and model's intrinsic properties, the virtual elastic object in AR is deformed naturally. In the simulation, we exploit standard mass-spring damper differential equation so called Newton's second law of motion to model deformable objects. From the experiments, we can successfully visualize the behavior of a virtual objects in AR based on the theorem of physics when the haptic device interact with the rigid or non-rigid virtual object.
Recently, as autonomous vehicles and intelligent CCTV are growing more interest, the efficient object detection is essential technique. The DPM(Deformable Part Models) which is basis of this paper have used a typical object system that represents highly variable objects using mixtures of deformable part for object. Although it shows high detection performance by capturing part shape and configuration of object model, but it is limited to use in real application due to the complicated algorithm. In this paper, instead of image feature pyramid that takes up a large amount of computation in one part of the detector, we propose a method to reduce the computation speed by reconstructing a new image feature pyramid that uses adaptive bilinear interpolation of feature maps obtained on a specific image scale. As a result, the detection performance for object was lowered a little by 2.82%, however, the proposed detection method improved the speed performance by 10% in comparison with original DPM.
This work aims to present a solution for the buckling behavior of perforated nano/microbeams with deformable boundary conditions using nonlocal strain gradient theory (NLSGT). For the first time, a solution that can provide buckling loads based on the non-local and strain gradient effects of perforated nanostructures on an elastic foundation, while taking into account both deformable and rigid boundary conditions. Stokes' transformation and Fourier series are used to realize this aim and determine the buckling loads under various boundary conditions. We employ the NLSGT to account for size-dependent effects and utilize the Winkler model to formulate the elastic foundation. The buckling behavior of the perforated nano/microbeams restrained with lateral springs at both ends is studied for various parameters such as the number of holes, the length and filling ratio of the perforated beam, the internal length, the nonlocal parameter and the dimensionless foundation parameter. Our results indicate that the number of holes and filling ratio significantly affect the buckling response of perforated nano/microbeams. Increasing the filling ratio increases buckling loads, while increasing the number of holes decreases buckling loads. The effects of the non-local and internal length parameters on the buckling behavior of the perforated nano/microbeams are also discussed. These material length parameters have opposite effects on the variation of buckling loads. This study presents an effective eigenvalue solution based on Stokes' transformation and Fourier series of the restrained nano/microbeams under the effects of elastic medium, perforation parameters, deformable boundaries and nonlocal strain gradient elasticity for the first time.

It is important to analyze the dynamic behavior of counter-rotating rigid/deformable rolls in the roll-coating process, because the stability of the process is affected by the dynamic characteristics. In the present study, the effects of material property, angular velocity, and gap size on the contact pressure and contact shape of the deformable roll are numerically investigated. The behavior of two rolls with a negative gap was analyzed using the finite element method, and the material property of the deformable roll was applied with the Mooney-Rivlin coefficients of the hyper-elastic model. The contact shape is affected by the gap size, and the contact pressure mainly depends on the stiffness of the deformable roll and the gap size. To maintain a negative gap between two rolls, controls such as load and displacement controls must be used. The results indicate that displacement control can reduce the instability.

The paper is on contact analysis of a spherical ball with a deformable flat, considering the effect of tangent modulus on the contact parameters of a non-adhesive frictionless elastic-plastic contact. The contact analysis of this model has been carried out using analysis software Ansys and Abaqus. The contact parameters such as area of contact between two consecutive steps, volume of bulged material are evaluated from the formulated equations. The effect of the tangent modulus is considered for determining these parameters. The tangent modulus are accounted between 0.1E and 0.5E of materials E/Y value greater than 500 and less than 1750. Result shows that upto an optimal tangent modulus values the elastic core push up to the free surface in the flat. The simulation is also carried out in Abaqus and result provide evidence for the volume of bulged material in the contact region move up and flow into the free surface of the flat from the contact edge between the ball and flat. The strain energy of the whole model is varied between 20 to 40 percentage of the stipulated time for analysis.
This paper proposes a hierarchical approach to active shape model using wavelet transform. The proposed algorithm allows us to use both global shape characteristics and finer details for model deformation. The statistical properties of the wavelet transform of a deformable model are analyzed by principal component analysis and used as priors in the contour's deformation.
A finite element model development of a 50th percentile male cervical spine is presented in this paper. The model consists of rigid, geometrically accurate vertebrae held together with deformable intervertibral disks, facet joints, and ligaments modeled as a series of nonlinear springs. These deformable structures were rigorously tuned, through failure, to mimic existing experimental data; first as functional unit characterizations at three cervical levels and then as a fully assembled c-spine using the experimental data from Duke University and other data in the NHTSA database. After obtaining satisfactory validation of the performance of the assembled ligamentous cervical spine against available experimental data, 22 cervical muscle pairs, representing the majority of the neck's musculature, were added to the model. Hill's muscle model was utilized to generate muscle forces within the assembled cervical model. The muscle activation level was assumed to be the same for all modeled muscles and the degree of activation was set to correctly predict available human volunteer experimental data from NBDL. The validated model is intended for use as a post processor of dummy measurement within the simulated injury monitor (SIMon) concept being developed by NHTSA where measured kinematics and kinetic data obtained from a dummy during a crash test will serve as the boundary conditions to "drive" the finite element model of the neck. The post-processor will then interrogate the model to determine whether any ligament have exceeded its known failure limit. The model will allow a direct assessment of potential injury, its degree and location thus eliminating the need for global correlates such as Nij.
Desiccation of a soil is basically the removal of water by evaporation, which is controlled by evaporativity and evaporability. Surface evaporation improves the trafficability which is essential for the access of construction equipment in the area reclaimed with soft clay. The existing traditional methods for evaluating evaporation can not account for the deformation of reclaimed soft soils during evaporation. Therefore, a theoretical model for predicting the rate of evaporation from the surface of a deformable material is proposed. The model is based on a system of equations for coupled heat and mass transfer in unsaturated soils. The modified pressure plate extractor test and glass desiccator test were carried out to obtain the soil-water characteristic curve for a deformable soil. The column drying test was conducted to investigate one dimensional water flow, heat flow and evaporation in the surface. A finite difference program was developed to solve the coupled nonlinear partial differential equations, which permit the study of water, vapor and heat flows in the deformable soil. Comparison between measured and simulated values shows a reasonably good matching between the two.

This paper describes an insole FFO(Functional Foot Orthosis) model for comfortable walking by considering weight distribution. There are many ways to make an insole FFO model such as using 3D computer graphics, or plaster manually. Thus, we proposed a standardized way to make an insole model, specifically called, robust and automatically personalized deformable insole model. Our proposed method showed 0.8cm average error compared between our proposed auto-deformable insole model and the other insole model manually deformed by experts. Therefore, our proposed method can be an efficient way to make a customized insole model with small error compared to the manually customized insole model.
This paper presents a dual modeling method that simulates the graphic and haptic behavior of a volumetric deformable object and conveys the behavior to a human operator. Although conventional modeling methods (a mass-spring model and a finite element method) are suitable for the real-time computation of an object's deformation, it is not easy to compute the haptic behavior of a volumetric deformable object with the conventional modeling method in real-time (within a 1kHz) due to a computational burden. Previously, we proposed a fast volume haptic rendering method based on the S-chain model that can compute the deformation of a volumetric non-rigid object and its haptic feedback in real-time. When the S-chain model represents the object, the haptic feeling is realistic, whereas the graphical results of the deformed shape look linear. In order to improve the graphic and haptic behavior at the same time, we propose a dual modeling framework in which a volumetric haptic model and a surface graphical model coexist. In order to inspect the graphic and haptic behavior of objects represented by the proposed dual model, experiments are conducted with volumetric objects consisting of about 20,000 nodes at a haptic update rate of 1000Hz and a graphic update rate of 30Hz. We also conduct human factor studies to show that the haptic and graphic behavior from our model is realistic. Our experiments verify that our model provides a realistic haptic and graphic feeling to users in real-time.
