  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the hydrological impact due to temporal land cover change urbanization of Anseong-cheon watershed $(585.09km^2)$. WMS (Watershed Modeling System) HEC-1 was adopted, and burned DEM with $200{\times}200m$ resolution and soil map reclassified by hydrologic soil groups were prepared. Land cover for 1985, 1990, 1995 and 2000 were classified by maximum likelihood method, using Landsat MSS and TM imageries. Calibration and verification of HEC-1 were conducted using 4 storm events. Peak flow at Pyeong taek station increased $25.9m^3/sec$ during the past 15 years due to paddy and forest decrease. Streamflow impact by just paddy area decrease and forest area decrease were also analysed keeping watershed CN values unchanged of the given year, respectively.

  • The local surface strength variation of coated papers were measured at various speeds on a number of coated paper samples to study the effects of speed and ink tack on coating pick. Coating pick phenomenon is observed in an ink transfer variation curve as a decrease in the slope of the curve. On the other hand, it causes an actual decrease in net ink transfer to paper with an increase in speed. The effect of speed on coating pick depends on ink tack, ink film thickness and surface properties of coating layer formation of paper. A novel device to measure the surface strength can rate the coating paper in a different order. Comparison are made between dry test of coating paper pick and wet coating pick test of printing in IGT printability tester. Coating formulation is the main key to prevent from coating pick. The binder level increases, the coating pick and the slop decrease. The piling on blanket in printing is a problem when the coating pick is occur on a local area rather than average surface strength of coated papers.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effets of chitosan and beef tallow at different level on glucose and lipid metabolism in rats. Dietary fot level was 20% and 40%, and chitosan was given at levels of 0%, 3%, and 5%(wt/wt) of diet. Chitosan supplement tended to decrease the serum total lipids, total cholesterol, and triglycerides. HDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol : total cholesterol ratio tended to increase with 5% chitosan supplementation. LDL cholesterol and VLDL triglyceride tended to decrease with chitosan supplementation. Lipid concentration of liver and epididymal fat pad(EEP) tended to decrease with medium dietary fat and chitosan treatment. fecal excretion of total lipid and triglyceride exhibited a tendency to increase with high fat levels and chitosan. Length of small intestine and gastrointestinal transit time were not affected by dietary fit levels or chitosan supplements. Therefore, it could be suggested that chitosan supplement had beneficial effects on lipid metabolism. (Korean J Nutrition 31(7) : 1112-1120, 1998)

  • This paper evaluated autonomic nervous system function in 23 patients with syncope and a positive tilt test result, 21 with a negative test result, and 19 healthy controls. Indexes of heart rate variability were measured during supine resting, immediately afte rtilt-up, standing rsting, immediately before syncope and immediately after tiltdown. There were no significant differences among the groups in any of the indexes of heart rate varability over the 24-hour holter recordings. In patients with a positive tilt result, tilting gaused a decrease in low-frequency (LF) immediately before syncope and incsrease in high-frequency (HF) bands immediately before. In patients with a negative tilt result, tilting caused a decrease in low-frequency (LF) immediately before syncope and decrease in high-frequency (HF) bands immediately before, different from positive tilt results. Our findings showed that patients with vasovagal syncope have no chronic differences from normal subjects in autonomic nervous system activity, but that these patients respond differently to the orthostatic stimulus.

  • Statistical analysis between operating parameters and effluent quality on advanced wastewater treatment plant was performed. Through factor analysis four factors derived varimax rotation were selected each plant. Four components explained $80\%,\;82\%$ of the total variance of the process, respectively. The components on MLE plant were identified in the following order: 1) HRT increase and BOD load decrease by influent decrease, 2) Biomass, 3) SVI increase by internal return increase, 4) Microbial diversity by SRT increase. On $A_2O$ plant, we defined them as follows: factor 1, high MLSS by return rate increase, HRT increase by influent decrease; factor 2, biomass; factor 3, BOD of influent; factor 4 was relate to DO.

  • This study discusses the properties of shrinkage of high performance concrete with W/B and water content. According to results, drying shrinkage decrease of water content due to the influence of autogenous shrinkage. And drying shrinkage is reduced with a decrease of water content. As W/B decreases, autogenous shrinkage increases because shrinkage by hydration is generated greatly due to an increase of binder content. Also, as water content decreases, it is reduced because of a decrease of cement paste by cement content.

  • The study is the results of accelerated tests and the specimens, mortars, are submerged in a 5% sulfuric acid solution. The deterioration of specimens is followed up by investigating the change in weight and compressive strength of the specimens and techniques such as XRD and XRF are used to examine the chemical changes. Sulfuric acid is a very aggressive acid that reacts with the free lime [$Ca(OH)_2$] in the concrete forming gypsum($CaSO_{4}.2H_{2}O$). This reaction is associated with an increase in volume of the concrete, and the corroded surface becomes soft and white. The results showed that the OPC mortar caused an decrease in weight above 18% and strength loss about 57%. On the other hand, AASC(alkali-activated slag composites) did not cause any decrease in weight and in the case of strength caused an decrease below 10%. In addition, this mechanical results was verified to XRD and XRF.

  • This study is investigated the various properties and drying shrinkage of concrete according to water content under the condition proper fluidity is adjusted, in order to suggest the method for reduction of crack by drying shrinkage. According to the results, though water content varies, slump and air content are satisfied to the planed values, but shear slump and separation happen at water content of 120 and 140kg/$m^3$ due to the overuse of superplasticizer(SP). As water content is diminished, setting time is retarded by an increase of the using amount of SP, and compressive and tensile strength increase in the range of 160-180kg/㎥ of water content, but decrease significantly at 120 and 140kg/$m^3$. Length change by drying shrinkage decrease with a decrease of water content. Therefore, considering not only drying shrinkage but also fluidity, setting time and strength, it proves that the most appropriate water content of concrete is 160kg/$m^3$ in the condition of this experiment.

  • In order to reduce the possibilities of personnel injuries and damages to machines and to obtaim higher efficiency and machining accuracy in the manufacturing system, the chucking technology has recentry become important. The chucking technology of work greatly affects both the grometrical accuracy and fonctional performance of the workpiece. In this study, the dynamic gripping force of a 3-jaw power chuck is investigated on the factors of the shape of jaw and the shape of workpiece. From this investigation, the following observations are obtained. 1) The higher stiffness of workpiece is, the higher decrease of dynamic gripping force is. 2) The nearer to the root of jaw is, the higher decrease of dynamic gripping force is. 3) The centrifugal force of affectting the decrease of dynamic gripping force has to be considered in the centrifugal force of affecting jaw.
