The meeds of vehicle navigation system are increassing and the accurate determination of position is still of promary improtance. GPS (Global Positioning System)receiver and low cost dead reckoning sensors have been used for vehicle position location. The integartion of these can improve the system performance to cope with accumulating errors and multipath problem in urban area. However, the implementation of integrated system of two sensors is net easy, for their real data ave noises that are not apt to be modeled. This paper discusses how to combine a GPS receiver and dead reckoning sensors. The characteriatics of sensors and their data are investigated, and the system for field test is manufactured. The test results of a selected typical route are presented.

In this paper, an integrated navigation system based on GPS(Global Positioning System) and Dead-Reckoning (DR) is designed. For the calibration of DR, a self-calibration method and a GPS-based calibration method are proposed. From the field-test results, it is shown that DR can be successfully calibrated by the two proposed calibration methods. Also, a cascaded filter approach and a mixed-measurement algorithm are employed for GPS/DR integration. By using the newly proposed mixed-measurement algorithm, it is shown in simulation that the position error becomes smaller than by using only DR even if the number of visible GPS satellites is less than 4.
This paper introduces a GPS-aided dead reckoning algorithm that asymptotically estimates the heading bias error of a magnetic compass based on geodetic north, improves the position error accumulated by dead reckoning, and helps the estimated position of an AUV to represent a position in the NED coordinate system, by receiving GPS position information when surfaced. Based on the results of a simulation, the locational error was bounded with a modest distance, after estimating the AUV position and heading bias error of the magnetic compass when surfaced. In other words, it was verified that proposed algorithm improves the position error in the NED coordinate system.

In this paper, a personal navigation system is developed using GPS and dead reckoning sensors. This personal navigation system can be used to track a person inside a building, on an urban street, and in the mountain area. GPS can provide accurate absolute position information, but it cant be used without receiving enough satellite signals. Although the inertial sensors such as gyro an accelerometer and be used without this diggiculty, the inertial sensors severely suffer from their drift errors and the magne-tometer can be easily distorted by surrounding electromagnetic field. GPS and DR sensors can be inte-grated together to overcome these problems. A new personal navigation system that can be carried wit person is developed. A pedometer. actually vertically mounted accelerometer, detects ones footstep and gyro detects heading angle. These DR sensors are integrated with GPS and the humans walking pattern provides additional navigation information for compensating the DR sensors. The field testes are performed to evaluated the proposed navigation algorithm.
The way which estimates a position from Navigation is Dead-reckoning Navigation and Radio Navigation. Generally dead-reckoning navigation uses Gyro and odometer as sensor, but these have problems which are an integrating noise and a noise-sensitivity. Gps which is used by radio-navigation has a Troposthetic error and MultiPath ewer and so on. For minimizing a Troposthetic error and a Multipath error, this paper suggests to an algorithm which use vanishing point on CCD camera.
GPS is especially suitable for location systems in flat areas, but the availability of GPS is limited in highly urbanized and mountain areas, due to the nature of satellite communications. Dead reckoning is generally used to solve a location problem when a pedestrian is out of range of GPS coverage. To extend the apparent coverage of the GPS system for a hiker in mountain areas, we propose an integrated 3D location system that interpolates a 3D dead reckoning system based on information about contour lines. The speeds of hikers vary according to the inclination of the ground in sloped areas such as mountains. To reduce location measurement errors, we determine the angle of inclination based on the contour lines of the mountain, and use the speeds based on the inclination in the location system. The simulation results show that the proposed system is more accurate than the existing location system.
Recently, number of navigation system using GPS and other complementary sensors has been developed to offer high-position accuracy. In this paper, an integration of GPS and Dead-Reckoning, which consists of a fiber optical gyroscope and two high-precision wheel-motor encoders for a unmanned navigation system, is presented. The main objective of this integrated GPS/DR unmanned navigation system is to provide accurate position and heading navigation data continuously for autonomous mobile robot. We propose a method for increasing the accuracy of the estimated position of the mobile robot by its DR sensors, high-precision wheel-motor encoders and a fiber optical gyroscope. We used Kalman filter theory to combine GPS and DR measurements. The performance of GPS/DR navigation system is evaluated.

Recently, the interest in autonomous vehicle which is an aggregate of the automotive control technology is increasing. In particular, researches on the self-localization technology that is directly connected with stable driving of autonomous vehicle have been performed. Various dead reckoning technologies which are solutions for resolving the limitation of GPS have been introduced. However, the conventional dead reckoning technologies have two disadvantages to apply on the autonomous vehicle. First one is that the expensive sensors must be equipped additionally. The other one is that the accuracy of self-localization decreases caused by wheel slip when the vehicle's motion changed rapidly. Based on this background, in this paper, the wheel speed sensor which is equipped on most of vehicles was used and the dead reckoning algorithm considering wheel slip ratio was developed for autonomous vehicle. Finally, in order to evaluate the performance of developed algorithm, the various simulation were conducted and the results were compared with the conventional algorithm.

In general, Personal Navigation Systems (PNSs) can be defined systems to acquire pedestrian positional information. GPS is an example of PNS. However, GPS can only be used where the GPS signal can be received. Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) can estimate the positional information of pedestrians using Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). Therefore, PDR can be used for GPS-disabled areas. This paper proposes a PDR scheme considering various movement types over GPS-disabled areas as combat environments. We propose a movement distance estimation scheme and movement direction estimation scheme as pedestrian's various movement types such as walking, running and crawling using IMU. Also, we propose a fusion algorithm between GPS and PDR to mitigate the lack of accuracy of positional information at the entrance to the building. The proposed algorithm has been tested in a real test bed. In the experimental results, the proposed algorithms exhibited an average position error distance of 5.64m and position error rate in goal point of 3.41% as a pedestrian traveled 0.6km.
In the GPS/DR integrated system, the GPS position(or velocity) is used to compensate the DR output and to calibrate errors in the DR sensor. This synergistic relationship ensures that the calibrated DR accuracy can be maintained even when the GPS signal is blocked. Because of the observability problem, however, the DR sensors are not sufficiently calibrated when the vehicle speed is low. This problem can be solved if we use a multi-antenna GPS receiver for attitude determination instead of conventional one. This paper designs a two-antenna GPS receiver integrated with DR sensors. The proposed integration system has three remarkable features. First, the DR sensor can be calibrated regardless of the vehicle speed with the aid of two-antenna GPS receiver. Secondly, the search space of integer ambiguities in GPS carrier-phase measurements is reduced to a part of the surface of the sphere using DR heading. Thirdly, the detection resolution of cycle-slips in GPS carrier-phase measurements is improved with the aid of DR heading. From the experimental result, it is shown that the search grace is drastically reduced to about 3120 of the non-aided case and the cycle-slips of 1 or half cycle can be detected.
