Since the non-overlapping gate driver used in conventional DC-DC boost converters generates fixed dead-times, the converters suffer from the body-diode conduction loss or the charge-sharing loss. To reduce the efficiency degradation due to these losses, this paper presents a PWM DC-DC boost converter with adaptive dead-time control. The proposed DC-DC boost converter delivering 3.3V output from a 2.5V input is designed with CMOS $0.3{\mu}m$ technology. It operates at 500kHz and has a maximum power efficiency of 97.3%.
This paper presents a neural network based adaptive dead-time compensation strategy for an inverter fed permanent magnet synchronous motor drive. The neural network is used for identifying the dead-time compensation time (DTCT) that includes an equivalent dead-time, turn-on/off time and on-state voltage components of the voltage source inverter. In order to train the neural network, desired DTCTs for eight operating points are prepared as training data. The trained neural network can identify a desired DTCT for any operating point because it has the capability of the interpolation. The accuracy of the identified DTCT is experimentally confirmed by comparing the calculated active power with a measured one.

A simple and effective dead time compensation scheme for a PWM inverter-fed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive using the model reference adaptive control (MRAC) and coordinate transformation is presented. The basic concept is to first transform a time-varying disturbance caused by the dead time and inverter nonlinearity into unknown constant or slowly-varying one by the coordinate transformation, and then use the MRAC design technique to estimate this parameter in the stationary reference frame. Since the MRAC scheme is a suitable way of estimating such a parameter, the control performance can be significantly improved as compared with the conventional observer-based method tracking time-varying parameters. In the proposed scheme, the disturbance voltage caused by the dead time is effectively estimated and compensated by on-line basis without any additional circuits nor existing disadvantages as in the conventional methods. The asymptotic stability is proved and the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified.

In PWM voltage source inverters operated by conventional switching method, the dead time is inserted in switching signals to prevent tile short circuit of the DC voltage source. The dead time causes detrimental effects to the control performance of the inverter system. So we need to compensate the dead time effects. And the dead time minimization switching method can be considered as the best way to avoid the dead time effects fundamentally. In this paper, a new switching strategy is proposed which is a kind of dead time minimization switching methods. According to the proposed switching method, very short dead time is adopted in only once when the current polarity is changing. And the adopted dead time is equal to the turn off time of the swtiching device or shorter than it. As the proposed method can be done with the polarity information of the reference current in case that the output current of the inverter is controlled, it is easy to solve some problems in comparison with the case that the real current is used to get the polarity changing time; level detection difficulty, noise problem and so on
In this paper a new current controller with dead time compensation for small time constant PMSM is proposed. Precise analysis on voltage distortion by dead time and device characteristics is presented. Simulation results are presented to demonstrated the validity of the proposed method.

In this paper, we propose a new real-time dead pixel detection method based on spatial compare filtering, which are usually used in the small target detection. Actually, the soft dead and the small target are cast in the same mold. Our proposed method detect and remove the dead pixels as applying the spatial compare filtering, into the pixel outputs of a detector after the non-uniformity correction. Therefore, we proposed method can effectively detect and replace the dead pixels regardless of the non-uniformity correction performance. In infrared camera, there are usually many dead detector pixels which produce abnormal output caused by manufactural process or operational environment. There are two kind of dead pixel. one is hard dead pixel which electronically generate abnormal outputs and other is soft dead pixel which changed and generated abnormal outputs by the planning process. Infrared camera have to perform non-uniformity correction because of structural and material properties of infrared detector. The hard dead pixels whose offset values obtained by non-uniformity correction are much larger or smaller than the average can be detected easily as dead pixels. However, some dead pixels(soft dead pixel) can remain, because of the difficulty of uncleared decision whether normal pixel or abnormal pixel.
Counting statistics modified by introducing two dead times in series under a Poisson input distribution are discussed. A previous study examined the two cases of series combinations of nonextended-extended (NE-E) and extended-extended (EE) dead times. The present study investigated the remaining two cases of extended-nonextended (E-NE) and nonextended-nonextended (NE-NE) dead times. For the three time origins of the counting processes - ordinary, equilibrium, and shifted processes - a set of formulae was newly developed from a general formulation and presented for the event time interval densities, total densities, and exact mean and variance of the counts in a given counting duration. The asymptotic expressions for the mean and variance of the counts, which are most convenient for applications, were fully listed. The equilibrium mean count rates distorted by the three dead times in series were newly derived from the information obtained in these studies. An application of the derived formulae is briefly discussed.

In this paper, a new on-line dead-time compensation method is proposed. The output voltage errors due to the dead-time effect is considered as disturbance voltages. The magnitude of the disturbance voltages is estimated using a time delay control technique and the disturbance voltages are calculated using the estimated values, measured currents, and position information. The calculated disturbance voltages are fed to voltage references in order to compensate the dead-time effect. The proposed method is applied to a PM synchronous motor drive system and implemented in a digital manner using a digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320C31. The experiments are carried out for this system to show the effectiveness of the proposed method and the results show the validity of the proposed method.

A simple on-line elimination strategy of the dead time and inverter nonlinearity using the current slope information is presented for a PWM inverter-fed IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) drive. In a PWM inverter-fed IPMSM drive, a dead time is inserted to prevent a breakdown of switching device. This distorts the inverter output voltage, resulting in a current distortion and torque ripple. In addition to the dead time, inverter nonlinearity exists in switching devices of the PWM inverter, which is generally dependent on operating conditions such as the temperature, DC link voltage, and current. The proposed scheme is based on the fact that the d-axis current ripple is mainly caused by the dead time and inverter nonlinearity. To eliminate such an influence, the current slope information is determined. The obtained current slope information is processed by the PI controller to estimate the disturbance caused by the dead time and inverter nonlinearity. The overall system is implemented using DSP TMS320F28335 and the validity of the proposed algorithm is verified through the simulation and experiments. Without requiring any additional hardware, the proposed scheme can effectively eliminate the dead time and inverter nonlinearity even in the presence of the parameter uncertainty.
A new on-line dead-time compensation method for a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor drive is proposed. Using a simple disturbance observer without any additional circuit and off-line experimental measurement, disturbance voltages in the synchronous reference dq frame caused by the dead time and non-ideal switching characteristics of power devices are estimated in an on-line manner and fed to voltage references in order to compensate the dead-time effects. The proposed method is applied to a PM synchronous motor drive system and implemented by using software of a digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320C31. Simulations and experiments are carried out for this system and the results well demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
