We first review some history of the Global Geodynamics Project (GGP), particularly in the progress of ground-satellite gravity comparisons. The GGP Satellite Project has involved the measurement of ground-based superconducting gravimeters (SGs) in Europe for several years and we make quantitative comparisons with the latest satellite GRACE data and hydrological models. The primary goal is to recover information about seasonal hydrology cycles, and we find a good correlation at the microgal level between the data and modeling. One interesting feature of the data is low soil moisture resulting from the European heat wave in 2003. An issue with the ground-based stations is the possibility of mass variations in the soil above a station, and particularly for underground stations these have to be modeled precisely. Based on this work with a regional array, we estimate the effectiveness of future SG arrays to measure co-seismic deformation and silent-slip events. Finally we consider gravity surveys in volcanic areas, and predict the accuracy in modeling subsurface density variations over time periods from months to years.

This research investigates the feasibility of using the thermoelectric power to monitor the thermal embrittlement in 2507 super duplex stainless steel (SDSS) exposed to a temperature between $280^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$. It is well known that the precipitation of Cr-rich ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ phase as a result of the spinodal decomposition is the major cause of the embrittlement and the loss of corrosion resistance in this material. The specimens are thermally aged at $475^{\circ}C$ for different holding times. A series of mechanical testing including the tensile test, Vickers microhardness measurement, and Charpy impact test are conducted to determine the property changes with holding time due to the embrittlement. The mechanical strengths and ferrite hardness exhibit very similar trends. Scanning electron microscopy images of impactfractured surfaces reveal a ductile to brittle transition in the fracture mode as direct evidence of the embrittlement. It is shown that the thermoelectric power is highly sensitive to the thermal embrittlement and has an excellent linear correlation with the ferrite hardness. This paper, therefore, demonstrates that the thermoelectric power is an excellent nondestructive evaluation technique for detecting and evaluating the $475^{\circ}C$ embrittlement of field 2507 SDSS structures.
This is a research analyses on the bearing capacity at a pile tip embedded in rock. The aim is to propose a shape coefficient for an analytical solution and to investigate the influence of the plastic flow law on the problem. For this purpose, the finite difference method is used to analyze the bearing capacity of various types and states of rock masses, assuming the Hoek & Brown failure criterion, by considering both plane strain and an axisymmetric model. Different geometrical configurations were adopted for this analysis. First, the axisymmetric numerical results were compared with those obtained from the plane strain analytical solution. Then the pile shape influence on the bearing capacity was studied. A shape factor is now proposed. Furthermore, an evaluation was done on the influence of the plastic flow law on the pile tip bearing capacity. Associative flow and non-associative flow with null dilatancy were considered, resulting in a proposed correlation. A total of 324 cases were simulated, performing a sensitivity analysis on the results and using the graphic output of vertical displacement and maximum principal stress to understand how the failure mechanism occurs in the numerical model.
The physical origin of low escape fractions of ionizing radiation derived from Lyman-break galaxies (LBGs) at z ~ 3 - 4 is a puzzle in the theory of reionization. We perform idealized disk galaxy simulations to investigate how galactic properties, such as metallicity and gas mass, affect the escape of Lyman continuum (LyC) photons using radiation-hydrodynamic code RAMSES-RT, with strong stellar feedback. We find that the luminosity-weighted escape fraction from a metal-poor (Z=0.002) galaxy embedded in a halo of mass Mh ~ 1011 M⊙ is 〈f3Desc〉 ~ 8%. However, when the gas metallicity is increased to Z=0.02, the escape fraction is significantly reduced to 〈f3Desc〉 ~ 1%, as young stars are enshrouded by their birth clouds for a longer period of time. On the other hand, increasing the gas mass by a factor of 5 leads to 〈f3Desc〉 ~ 4%, as LyC photons are only moderately absorbed by the thicker disk. Our experiments seem to suggest that high metallicity is primarily responsible for the low escape fractions observed from LBGs, supporting the scenario in which the escape fraction has a negative correlation with halo mass. Indeed, our simulated galaxy with the typical metallicity of LBGs (Z=0.006) shows the relative escape fraction of 8%, consistent with recent observations of galaxies with M1500 = -20.
This study investigated relationship between preservice kindergarten teachers' cognitive strategies and self-determination motivation types. Cognitive strategies were measured by 3 variables surface, deep, and metacognitive strategies; motivation for self-determination was measured by 7 variables; intrinsic motivation(IM) to know, IM to accomplish, IM to experience stimulation, external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation, and amotivation. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire(Pintirch & DeGroot, 1990) and the Academic Motivation Scale(Vallerand et al., 1992, 1993) were administered to 82 subjects. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, multiple regression analysis, and canonical correlation analysis. Finding were a positive correlation between IM to know and IM to accomplish. IM to accomplish positively predicted surface, deep, and metacognitive strategies, and identified regulation positively predicted deep cognitive strategy. Amotivation negatively predicted deep and metacognitive strategies.

A number of different techniques are available to mitigate the problem of cross correlations caused by the limited dynamic range of the 10-bit Gold codes in the GPS C/A code. These techniques include successive-interference cancellation (SIC) and parallel-interference cancellation (PIC), where the strong signals are subtracted at IF prior to attempting to detect the weak signals. In this paper, a variation of these techniques is proposed whereby the subtraction process is delayed until after the correlation process, although still employing a pure reconstructed C/A code signal to permit prediction of the cross correlation process. The paper provides details on the method as well as showing the results obtained when the method was implemented using a software GPS receiver. The benefits of this approach are also described, as is the application of the method to the cancellation of CW interference.

This paper discusses the use of the Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technique for the displacement and strain measurements of a wet lay-up composite wing. As opposed to classical strain gages, DIC allows to conduct full field strain analysis of simple to complex structural parts. In this work, wing-up bending tests and measurements of the composite wing of the Dardo Aspect by CFM Air are carried out through an ad-hoc test rig and the Q-400 DIC system by Dantec Dynamics. Also, the results are used to validate a finite element model of the structure under investigation.

Background: Mesotheliomas are relatively rare tumors in Lebanon. The only previous study goes back to 14 years ago, when we published epidemiological characteristics of mesotheliomas in Lebanon, showing that the pleural location accounted for the vast majority of cases, with clear evidence of asbestos exposure from the Eternit factory of Chekka region. The objective of this current study was to estimate the incidence of mesothelioma in the past decade and to identify its epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic characteristics, making comparisons with our first study published in 2001. Materials and Methods: Between 2002 and 2014, patients diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma at Hotel-Dieu de France University Hospital were investigated. Epidemiological data focusing on asbestos exposure history were collected from medical records and interviews with the families. Results: A total of 26 patients were diagnosed with mesothelioma, 21 of which were successfully investigated. The mean age of these 21 patients is 62.5 (19-82). Only 3 (14.29%) are women. 18 (85.71%) were smokers. Among the 21 available mesotheliomas, 15 (71.4%) are pleural, while 5 (23.8%) are peritoneal and 1 (4.8%) pericardial. Only 60% of patients with pleural mesothelioma and 50% of those with an obvious exposure to asbestos lived and/or worked in Chekka region. The mean time of asbestos exposure in patients with mesothelioma is 24.5 (1-50) years and the mean latency is 37.4 (4-61) years. Of the 21 patients, 10 (47.6%) underwent surgery during their treatment, 16 (76.2%) received chemotherapy and 3 (14.3%) received best supportive care. Conclusions: Compared to the previous study (1991-2000), substantial changes in the epidemiology of mesothelioma in Lebanon were observed, such as an increase in peritoneal localizations and a lower correlation with Chekka region asbestos contamination.

The purpose of this study was to observe the relationship between mandibular asymmetry and Temporomandibular Disorders by means of the cephalometry using the posteroanterior cephalogram and the submentovertex cephalogram which were taken in 35 Temporomandibular Disorder patients and 35 normal persons ranged from 20S to 30S. The results were as follows: 1. The angulation which was formed by the median line with the ANS-Menton line (MAP) was greater in patients group and there was statistically significant difference. 2. The angulation which was formed to the median line with the Menton-Odontoid process tip line (MES), the difference of the distances from the center of the posterior surface of the both condyles to the most anterior point of the chin (DD), the difference of the distances from the center of the both condyles to the horizontal reference line (DE), the difference of the angulations which were formed by the both condyles axes with the horizontal reference line (DCE), the difference of the lengths of the both condyles (CL) and the difference of the widths of the both condyles (DW) were greater in patients group and there were statistically significant differences. There was reversed correlation between MAP and the difference of the distances from the 3. bilateral points of the lateral margin of the both zygomaticofrontal sutures to the at the lateral inferior margin of the both antegonial protuberances in mandible (DH). There was reversed correlation between MES and DD, DE, DCE. 5. There was correlation between MAP and MES.
This paper presents an enhancement method of document restoration capability which is robust for security, loss, and contamination, It is based on two methods, that is, encryption and DnCNN(DeNoise Convolution Neural Network). In order to implement this encryption method, a mathematical model is applied as a spatial frequency transfer function used in optics of 2D image information. Then a method is proposed with optical interference patterns as encryption using spatial frequency transfer functions and using mathematical variables of spatial frequency transfer functions as ciphers. In addition, by applying the DnCNN method which is bsed on deep learning technique, the restoration capability is enhanced by removing noise. With an experimental evaluation, with 65% information loss, by applying Pre-Training DnCNN Deep Learning, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) shows 11% or more superior in compared to that of the spatial frequency transfer function only. In addition, it is confirmed that the characteristic of CC(Correlation Coefficient) is enhanced by 16% or more.
