Purpose: To examine the relations among occupational satisfaction, stress, and customer orientation of upper-scale general hospital nurses. Method: We studied with structured questionnaires with total 66 questions for 218 nurses working at university hospitals in Gangwon-do from February 2 to 22, 2010. Result: Occupational satisfaction and customer-oriented character increased when nurses' ages and career experiences were higher, married, working in daytime without shift and in higher positions. Occupational stress increased when nurses were younger, not married, with three shifts, and when they were general nurses. However, there was no statistical difference. Customer-oriented character had positive correlation with occupational satisfaction and stress while occupational satisfaction had negative correlation(r=-0.358) with occupational stress. Conclusion: As occupational stress and satisfaction of nurses in university hospitals showed significant relations with customer-oriented character, t is necessary to reduce occupational stress of nurses, and strengthen occupational satisfaction of them.
Objectives : To evaluate the association between working conditions and adverse pregnancy outcomes in Korea. Methods : We obtained data on health history, lifestyle, housework and Working conditions, such as shift work, hours standing, working time, job demand, lifting at work and at home, between August and September 2000, from self-reported questionnaires. A group of 344, occupationally active, pregnant women from 51 industries were studied. Of the women studied, 328 women were further interviewed by telephone between November 2000 and September 2001. Result : Compared with daytime work, shift work increased the risk for preform birth (an adjusted risk ratio of 2.74, 95% CI=1.02-2.62) and low birth weight (an adjusted risk ratio of 2.74,95% CI=1.02-2.02). A significantly increased risk was found for prolonged standing, with an adjusted risk ratio of preform births of 6.80 (95% CI=2.01-23.0). There were no significant differences in the incidence of spontaneous abortion between the occupational working conditions, with the enception of a previous history of spontaneous abortion. Conclusion : These findings suggest that maternal working conditions, such as shift work and prolonged standing, contribute significantly to preterm birth and low birth weight.
Purpose: This study aimed to explore the subjective sleep quality of depressed and non-depressed mothers in the late postpartum period and to determine the relationship with their health promoting behaviors, family functioning, parenting stress. Method: A non-probability sample of 128 mothers completed a self-administered questionnaires at 4-6weeks postpartum. The Edinburgh postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index were used to measure mother's experiences of depression symptoms and sleep. Related factors of sleep quality were measured by the Korean Family Functioning Scale, Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile, and Parenting Stress Index. The data was analysed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, and the Pearson's correlation coefficients. Result: The results indicated that the depressed mothers (EPDS$\geq$ 10) had poorer sleep quality than the non-depressed mothers(EPDS < 10), reported shortened sleep duration, and experienced more daytime dysfunctions. Depressed mothers who had no job, did not drink coffee, and were primipara tended to report poorer sleep quality. There were significant correlation between poorer sleep quality and lower health promoting behaviors, higher family intimacy and lower family communication, and higher parenting stress among depressed mothers. Conclusion: Our findings support the view that depressed mothers' experiences of poor sleep are much higher than non-depressed mothers and multi-faced. Nurse professionals should screen for sleep problems in the depressed mothers with a different biopsychosocial and behavioral aspect from the non-depressed mothers in the late postpartum period.

The purpose of this study is investigate the effects of quality of life and occupational performance on quality of sleep in college students. Data had been collected from Sep. 1 to Sep. 30, 2021. The subjects of this study were students majoring in occupational therapy at C College situated in C region. For analysis, 103 copies of questionnaire were used. As study instruments, a structured questionnaire incorporating questions about general characteristics, and measurement scales for quality of life, quality of sleep, and occupational performance evaluation were applied. Subjective sleep quality and sleep latency of study participants had lower scores than other components. According to the analysis on different quality of sleep depending on general characteristics, women had more sleep disturbances as they didn't have any part-time job. In terms of the correlation between quality of sleep and quality of life, physical health and total score (quality of life) had correlations with daytime dysfunction. With regard to influential factors on quality of sleep, rest & sleep as a domain of occupational performance and work affected quality of sleep. Students' quality of sleep will be improved if they keep regular habits of living, have rest appropriately for alleviating their stress, and do their jobs with interest and successfully according to a procedure. It is expected that the results of this study will be helpful to care for the health of would-be experts in charge of national health care.
Objectives: This study aimed to assess exposure to black carbon(BC) among forklift operators and to identify environmental and occupational factors influencing their BC exposure. Methods: We studied a total of 23 forklift operators from six workplaces manufacturing paper boxes. A daily BC exposure assessment was conducted during working hours from January to April 2017. A micro-aethalometer was used to monitor daily BC exposure, and information on work activities was also obtained through a time-activity diary(TAD) and interviews. BC exposure records were classified into four categories influencing BC exposure level: working environment, workplace, forklift operation, and job characteristics. Analysis of variance(ANOVA) was used to compare average BC exposure levels among the four categories and the relationships between potential factors and BC exposure were analyzed using a multiple linear regression model. Results: The operators' daily exposure was $12.9{\mu}g/m^3$(N=9,148, $GM=7.5{\mu}g/m^3$) with a range: $0.001-811.4{\mu}g/m^3$. The operators were exposed to significantly higher levels when they operate a forklift in a room ${\leq}20,000m^3$($AM=12.3{\mu}g/m^3$), in indoor workplaces($AM=16.3{\mu}g/m^3$), when they operate a forklift manufactured before 2006 ($AM=13.2{\mu}g/m^3$), a forklift with a loading limit of four-tons($AM=27.1{\mu}g/m^3$), with a roll and bale type clamp($AM=17.1{\mu}g/m^3$), and with no particulate filter($AM=15.7{\mu}g/m^3$). Conclusions: Occupational factors including temperature, smoking, season, daytime, room volume($m^3$), location of operating, and manufacturing era and model of forklift influenced the BC exposure of forklift operators. The results of this study can be used to minimize the BC exposure of forklift operators.
