Advances in MEMS and CMOS technologies have motivated the development of low cost/power sensors and wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSN). The WMSNs were created to ubiquitously harvest multimedia content. Such networks have allowed researchers and engineers to glimpse at new Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Systems, such as remote monitoring of biosignals for telemedicine networks. These systems require the acquisition of a large number of data streams that are simultaneously generated by multiple distributed devices. This paradigm of data generation and transmission is known as event-streaming. In order to be useful to the application, the collected data requires a preprocessing called data fusion, which entails the temporal alignment task of multimedia data. A practical way to perform this task is in a centralized manner, assuming that the network nodes only function as collector entities. However, by following this scheme, a considerable amount of redundant information is transmitted to the central entity. To decrease such redundancy, data fusion must be performed in a collaborative way. In this paper, we propose a collaborative data alignment approach for event-streaming. Our approach identifies temporal relationships by translating temporal dependencies based on a timeline to causal dependencies of the media involved.
In this paper, we present a new approach for speaker diarization. First, we use the prosodic information calculated on the original speech to resynthesize the new speech data utilizing the spectrum modeling technique. The resynthesized data is modeled with sinusoids based on pitch, vibration amplitude, and phase bias. Then, we use the resynthesized speech data to extract cepstral features and integrate them with the cepstral features from original speech for speaker diarization. At last, we show how the two streams of cepstral features can be combined to improve the robustness of speaker diarization. Experiments carried out on the standardized datasets (the US National Institute of Standards and Technology Rich Transcription 04-S multiple distant microphone conditions) show a significant improvement in diarization error rate compared to the system based on only the feature stream from original speech.
This paper presents desirable water environmental management to a closed watershed. In order to obtain spatially distributed environmental information, GIS data have been used. Elevation data are used to extract stream channels automatically and to divide networks of a watershed. A Digital Elevation Model (DEM) has been developed, validated, and adopted to estimate the runoff of total nitrogen pollutant from watershed. This GIS-linked model can be applied effectively to the watersheds with many sub-streams, and for the estimation of pollutant runoff considering land use change.
The volatility in the financial data is usually measured by conditional variance. Two main streams for gauging conditional variance are stochastic volatility (SV) model and autoregressive type approach (GARCH). This article is conducting comparative study between SV and GARCH through the Korean Stock Prices Index (KOSPI) data. It is seen that SV model is slightly better than GARCH(1,1) in analyzing KOSPI data.
In this paper, we present a fast Fourier transform (FFT) processor with four parallel data paths for multiband orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing ultra-wideband systems. The proposed 128-point FFT processor employs both a modified radix-$2^4$ algorithm and a radix-$2^3$ algorithm to significantly reduce the numbers of complex constant multipliers and complex booth multipliers. It also employs substructure-sharing multiplication units instead of constant multipliers to efficiently conduct multiplication operations with only addition and shift operations. The proposed FFT processor is implemented and tested using 0.18 ${\mu}m$ CMOS technology with a supply voltage of 1.8 V. The hardware- efficient 128-point FFT processor with four data streams can support a data processing rate of up to 1 Gsample/s while consuming 112 mW. The implementation results show that the proposed 128-point mixed-radix FFT architecture significantly reduces the hardware cost and power consumption in comparison to existing 128-point FFT architectures.

We present a new survey of nearby galaxies to obtain deep wide-field images of 200 nearby bright galaxies in the southern hemisphere using Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet). We are taking very deep and wide-field images, spending 4.5 hours for the B and R filters for each object. Using this dataset, we will look for diffuse, low-surface brightness structures including outer disks, truncated disks, tidal features and stellar streams, and faint companions. The multicolor data will enable us to estimate the incidence and star formation history of those features. We present an outline of the data reduction pipeline, and preliminary results from the commissioning data.

Multimedia streams, like MPEG continuously retrieve multimedia data because of their incessant playback. While these streams need an efficient support of kernel, the current buffer cache mechanism of Linux kernel such as Unix operating system was designed apt for small files, which is aperiodically requested as well as time uncritical. But, in case of continuous media, the CPU must enormously copy memory from kernel address space to user address space. This must lead to a large CPU overhead. This overhead both degrades system throughput and cannot guarantee QOS. In this paper, we have designed and implemented two memory copy reduction schemes in Linux kernel, direct I/O and one copy. The direct I/O skips the buffer cache layer of Linux kernel and results in dramatic reduction of CPU memory copy overhead. And, the one copy provides a fast disk-to-network data path without copying to user address space. The experimental results show considerable reduction of CPU overhead and throughput improvements.

Relay has attracted great attention due to its inherent capability to extend the service coverage and combat shadowing in next generation mobile communication systems. So far, most relay technologies have been developed under the half-duplex (HD) constraint that prevents relays from transmitting and receiving at the same time. Although half-duplex relay (HDR) is easy to implement, it requires partitioning of resource for transmission and reception, reducing the whole system capacity. In this paper, we propose a multinser precoding and power control scheme with sum rate matching for a full-duplex (FD) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relay. Full-duplex relay (FDR) can overcome the drawback of HDR by transmitting and receiving on the same frequency at the same time, while it is crucial to reduce the effect of self-interference that is caused by its own transmitter to its own receiver. The proposed precoding scheme cancels the self-interference of the FDR as well as to support multiuser MIMO. Moreover, we suggest a power allocation scheme for FD MIMO relay with the constraint that the sum rate of the relay's received data streams is equal to that of the relay's transmit data streams.
More than 100 bridges in Korea have been annually collapsed or badly damaged by the scouring around bridge piers, particularly in the flood season. To prevent from such a tragedy, the fundamental study on the bridge scouring is required, which is essential not only to estimate the scour depth with reliability but to take it into consideration in its design. However, it is not easy to find out the physical scour mechanism since many factors on the scour are coupled with. Moreover, there exists none of the measured data sufficiently for the primary research on the bridge scour depths. In this study the field measurements are carried out to provide the fundamental data for the research and the design. Scouring depth, pier width, flow depth, and the approaching velocity and degree of pier nose are measured broadly in small and medium streams. From these measurements the present situation on bridge scours can be understood and some of important factors to affect the stability of bridges are analyzed.
Since, in 1970, diatoms and diatom indices was first used in measuring quality of streams and rivers at the Seine Water Agency in France, five other water agencies began to show interests since 1990. In 1994, associated with CEMAGREF (Centre National du Machinisme Agricole du Genie Rural et des Eaux et des Forets : environmental science and expertise for the sustainable management of land and water), the six French Water Agencies (Seine, Rhone-Mediterranee-Corse, Artois- Picardie, Loire-Bretagne, Rhin-Meuse and Adour-Garonne) developed a practical diatom index, which is liable to be used routinely in the territorial streams and rivers of whole France, and which is liable to promote and facilitate its use in monitoring water networks. In 1995, the first version of a biological diatom index (IBD) was generated by them. Since then, the software update for IBD calculation and the user's network have led to numerous practical applications in France. Furthermore, the Water Agencies have run applicable programs on the National Basin Network from 1996, and the initial data set of IBD was completed. Re- examination of the complete data set was done at the end of 1998, and the tests on different calculation options of the IBD led to a third version of this index in June,2000 (AFNOR NF T 90-354).
