  • A new model, the periodic transient storage zone model, is developed to describe solute transport mixing in natural streams and rivers with various bottom boundaries. To assess the effects of storage zones structure on transient storage exchange, we analyze data from salt and dye injection experiments in a recirculating laboratory flume with four spatially periodic pool-riffle sequences characteristic of natural river systems under low flow conditions. Dye injections show that solute transport mixing controlled by surface shapes of both the bed and the side in channels. As no existing transient storage model could represent these effects, we developed a new axially periodic transient storage zone model that better represent the effects of channel characteristics in natural river systems. The new model is also fitted to data from salt tracer injection experiments in four reaches of the upper Sabin River, Texas, USA. The proposed model is in good agreement with the field experimental data.

  • The electronic transmission of VLBI data(dubbed e-VLBI) presents a special challenge to the use of high-speed global network. with long-term requirements for simultaneous or near-simultaneous Gbps data streams from antennas worldwide converging in a single processing center, e-VLBI is both a useful and highly synergetic application for global high-speed networksAs broband access to high speed research and education networks has become increasingly available to radio telescopes around the world the use of e-VLBI has also increased. High bandwidth e-VLBI experiments have been achieved across wide areas e-VLBI has also been used for the transfer of data from "production"exoeriments

  • NARO Space Center is being developed as a national project for the Korea Space Development Program. Among the major missions of the Space Center, the Range Control System is the focal point for all command and control operation of the Space Center. The acquired data from the Tracking Stations and the on-site facilities is processed and distributed in the Control Center. Data processing or data fusion is needed for the exact tracking of the Launch Vehicle from several tracking systems. The first phase, which is the best telemetry source is selected among data streams that are received from each telemetry stations using some pre-defined criterion. Trajectory data and major telemetry parameters...

  • In MSC(Multi-spectral camera ), the incoming light is converted to electronic analog signals by the CCD(charge coupled device) detectors. The analog signals are amplified, biased and converted into digital signals (pixel data stream) in the FPE(Focal plane electronics ). The digital data is transmitted to the PMU for pre-processing to correct for nonuniformity, to partially reorder the pixel stream and to add header data for identification and synchronization In this paper, the video data streams is described in terms of hardware.

  • We propose a novel graphics processing unit (GPU) algorithm that can handle a large-scale 3D fast Fourier transform (i.e., 3D-FFT) problem whose data size is larger than the GPU's memory. A 1D FFT-based 3D-FFT computational approach is used to solve the limited device memory issue. Moreover, to reduce the communication overhead between the CPU and GPU, we propose a 3D data-transposition method that converts the target 1D vector into a contiguous memory layout and improves data transfer efficiency. The transposed data are communicated between the host and device memories efficiently through the pinned buffer and multiple streams. We apply our method to various large-scale benchmarks and compare its performance with the state-of-the-art multicore CPU FFT library (i.e., fastest Fourier transform in the West [FFTW]) and a prior GPU-based 3D-FFT algorithm. Our method achieves a higher performance (up to 2.89 times) than FFTW; it yields more performance gaps as the data size increases. The performance of the prior GPU algorithm decreases considerably in massive-scale problems, whereas our method's performance is stable.

  • This study was conducted to show how to manage the water quality of Kyung-an river. The water quality and hydrologic data were obtained at the main river and branch streams in Marc $h{\sim}April$ 1998. First of all, we surveyed the contribution of branches for the pollution of water quality at Kyung-an river. It was in order of Kongiam(25.5%)>Yong-in Pollutant Treatment Complex (15.26%)^gt;Shin-won(13.99%)>Buen(11.86%)>Yangji(8.68%)>Yooun(7.43%)>Kwang-ju Pollution Treatment Complex(5.50%)>Osan(5.04%). The hydrological model using mass balance and BOD reduction formula suggested that if the quality of water Yoo-un and Shinn-won stream (branch streams of Kyung-an River) which is lowest in the basin is controlled adequately and outlet water from Yong-in pollutant treatment complex is adequately treated, the quality of Kyung-an river will be improved by 90% compared to current level.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-cell cooperation method for broadcast packet data services in the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based cellular system with multiple transmit antennas. In the proposed method, to transmit two streams of spatially demultiplexed or transmit diversity coded symbols over a number of transmit antennas, we divide a coded packet into multiple subparts to which different cell groups and antenna pairs are assigned. The proposed method enhances the diversity order by transforming the channel frequency responses of two symbol streams in each subpart of the broadcast packet. The increase in diversity of the proposed method is shown with the outage probability under various configurations.

  • This study was designed to present a river model with an aim at restoring the ecosystem and improving the landscape along the urban rivers on the basin of the Namhan river, a core life channel for the National Capital region. The revelation of botanical status, transition trend and correlation of plants might lead to providing the urban river restoration projects and ecological river formation projects with basic data for a model of ideal aquatic ecology and landscape. The outcomes of this study could be summed up as follows: 1. Communities of Juglans mandshurica, Cornus controversa and Fraxinus mandshurica constitute the main portion of flora at or around uppermost branch streams of the River Namhanis harbored mainly in and around small brooks 2. Typical terrestrial forest communities formed around the River Namhan are composed mainly of Larix leptolepis, Pinus rigida, planned forestation of Pinus koraiensis, Quercus acutissima, Quercus variabilis and Pinus densiflora. 3. The analysis into terrestrial environment of plant communities showed a high content of $P_2O_5$, typical communities found in the artificially disturbed land Finally, it seems also desirable to continue to make every exertion to explore the relationship between fluvial and terrestrial ecologies with a purport of building up a model of natural streams in urban area based on the surveyed factors for plant life, forest communities, soil and landscape and, moreover, on the forecasting for overall influences derived from the relation upon the ecosystem.

  • A water quality model was developed for small stream at a upland agricultural watershed. A control volume method was employed to digest the severe variability of stream shape, water quality and discharge at small streams. We estimated optimum reaction coefficients and model structure using a random number generation technique. The index of agreement and coefficient of efficiency were introduced for the model calibration criterion. As the result, the reliability of model parameter estimation could be improved. The applicability of model was tested by a set of sampling results at Yongduckchun in Kimhae. The variability of water quality reaction coefficient was explored through the observed data and using the developed model. model.

  • Many of today's environmental problems are regional in scope and their effects overlap and interact. The purpose of this paper is to developed a simple method for an integrated assessment of environmental conditions across the Mid-Nakdong River Region, by combining data on land use, impervious cover, roads, streams, riparian areas, forest patches, population, pollutant loadings, soil erosion and topography. A cluster analysis was used to identify groups of sub-watersheds with similar environmental characteristics. The mean value for each group was used to find watershed that may be more vulnerable to future environmental degradation. Watersheds in cluster I and II had high amount of forest, but the amount of riparian vegetation was low. Watersheds in cluster III, which located in the middle Geumho River and the main course of Nakdong River, had a greater proportion of their agriculture, a greater proportion of agriculture on steep slopes, and less forest adjacent to streams. Watersheds in cluster IV and V were in the most urbanized areas of the region. The principal adverse impacts for watersheds in this group were high scores for urban area, impervious cover, pollutant loadings, population density, forest fragmentation, and low amounts of forest and riparian forest cover. Notwithstanding the exploratory nature of cluster analysis, it appears to be a useful tool for grouping watersheds with similar environmental characteristics.
