  • The government has pushed ahead with the establishment of a connection system among education-task-qualification with regards to the promotion of engineering industry, but there has been a lack of pertinent data. In this regard, this study investigated the ways of connecting universities' engineering education with Electrical Professional Engineer examination. The results show that the tendency of questions consists of 30[%] of transmission, 16[%] of basic theory, 14[%] of transformer, 14[%] of generation, 9[%] of new technology, 11[%] of other relevant fields. This study also presents a survey on the relationship between the engineer's license and college curriculum. The curriculum of Electrical Engineering Department of a leading National University in Seoul is investigated in relation to the Examination. Some learning materials for successful completion of the university curriculum and acquisition of the Professional Engineer license are also recommended.

  • Penetration of a fragment-like projectile into Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) was simulated using finite element (FE) and particle formulations. Extreme deformations and failure of the material during the penetration event were modeled with multiple approaches to evaluate how well each represented the actual physics of the penetration process and compared to experimental data. A Fragment Simulating Projectile(FSP) normally impacting a flat, square plate of FRC was modeled using two target thicknesses to examine the different levels of damage. The thinner plate was perforated by the FSP, while the thicker plate captured the FSP and only allowed penetration part way through the thickness. Full three dimensional simulations were performed, so the capability was present for non-symmetric FRC behavior and possible projectile rotation in all directions. These calculations assessed the ability of the finite element and particle formulations to calculate penetration response while assessing criteria necessary to perform the computations. The numerical code EPIC contains the element and particle formulations, as well as the explicit methodology and constitutive models, needed to perform these simulations.

  • In this paper, we examine the behavior of the High-Rate Brittle Microplane (HRBM) concrete model based on a series of penetration experiments. These experiments were conducted with three different slab thicknesses (127, 216 and 254 mm) that provided a significant challenge for the numerical simulations. The 127 mm slab provided little resistance, the 216 mm slab provided nominal resistance and the 254 mm slab approached the perforation limit thickness of the projectile. These experiments provide a good baseline for evaluating material models since they have been shown to be extremely challenging; in fact, we have not encountered many material models that can provide quantitatively predictive results in terms of both projectile exit velocity and material damage. In a companion paper, we described the HRBM material model and its fit to various quasi-static material property data for WES-5000 concrete. In this paper, we show that, when adequately fit to these quasi-static data, the HRBM model does not have significant predictive capabilities, even though the quasi-static material fit may be exceptional. This was attributed to the rate-dependent response of the material. After various rate effects were introduced into the HRBM model, the quantitative predictive nature of the calculations dramatically increased. Unfortunately, not much rate-dependent material property data are in the literature; hence, accurate incorporation of rate effects into material models is difficult. Nonetheless, it seems that rate effects may be critical in obtaining an accurate response for concrete during projectile perforation events.

  • In the construction industry, construction management system using information technology has been applied diversely to increase productivity. Although IT device such as PDA, RFID, Barcode, wireless network and web camera has been introduced in construction site, the usage of these device is restricted, because these cause engineer to do additional work. The suggested process using Digital Pen in this study, which can lessen engineer's additional work, get defect data promptly. Also accumulated data is utilized effectively for analyzing construction site. The purpose of this study is to introduce Digital Pen System as a means of construction data acquisition for improving productivity.

  • Many materials including cementitious concrete-type materials undergo material property changes during high-rate loading. There is a wealth of research regarding this phenomenon for concrete in compression and tension. However, there is minimal knowledge about how mortar material used in concrete masonry unit (CMU) construction behaves in high-rate shear loading. A series of experiments was conducted to examine the bond strength of mortar bonded to CMU units under high-rate shear loading. A novel experimental setup using a shock tube and dynamic ram were used to load specially constructed shear triplets in a double lap shear configuration with no pre-compression. The Finite Element Method was leveraged in conjunction with data from the experimental investigation to establish if the shear bond between concrete masonry units and mortar exhibits any rate dependency. An increase in shear bond strength was observed when loaded at a high strain rate. This data indicates that the CMU-mortar bond exhibits a rate dependent strength change and illustrates the need for further study of the CMU-mortar interface characteristics at high strain rates.

  • This paper describes a dual-mode reference-less CDR(Clock Data Recovery) operating at full / half-rate and its operation algorithm. Proposed reference-less CDR consists of a frequency detector, a phase detector, a charge pump, a loop filter, a voltage controlled oscillator, and a digital block. The frequency and phase detectors operate at both full / half-rate for dual-mode operation and especially the frequency detector is capable of detecting the difference between data rate and clock frequency in the dead zone of general frequency detectors. Dual-mode reference-less CDR with the proposed algorithm can recover the data and clock within 1.2-1.3 us and operates reliably at both full-rate (2.7 Gb/s) and half-rate (5.4 Gb/s) with 0.5-UI input jitter.

  • The purpose of this study was to review the current status and problems of the national qualification system in the Environmental field focusing on deficiencies of the regulatory system and qualities of environmental professional including the Environmental control Professional Engineer, Environmental Engineer, Environmental Industrial Engineer and Environmental field. An overview of the environmental field, its current status, domestic qualification items and training conditions in environment-related areas, laws of environmental field, and data of the job analysis were reviewed. The concrete and extensive development plans for the qualification system of the Environmental field are as follows: First of all, a job analysis should be made of on the introduction of new systems or policy modification to reflect technical changes and national policies about the environmental field in the qualification exam. Second, it is essential to prepare policies that are suitable for the qualification system in the Environmental field and that improve its effectiveness. Third, the appropriate policy measures should be taken in order to elevate the social standing of Environmental field qualification holders.
