  • Now a days problem in health has become common. So, instead of curing them, prevention through dietary supplements has proven to be useful. In the case of patients who have already developed the disease atleast relieving pain and suffer is a challenging thing. In this context L- arginine is doing better compared to other essential aminoacids up to some extent. Arginine was found to reduce the pain associated with pulmonary hypertension foun to be associated with sickle cell anaemia. It also reduces the reperfusion injury after ischemia, trauma and shock. Some of the drugs with L-arginine as component are under clinical trials and hope to be available in the market soon. Severe preeclampsia is characterised by headaches, blurred vision, and inability to have high photovision, nausea and vomiting. L-Arginine along with Vit C and E are given as medical food to the patients and decrease in condition symptoms is the project now under phase II clinical trial. However the role of arginine in ameolirating preeclampsia symptoms is uncertain except with that of hypertension. Arginine is used to treat pain in sickle cell anaemia, lung damage, reperfusion injury, Trauma and shock but should be excluded during sepsis.

  • A 54-year-old man experienced injury to the second finger of his left hand due to damage from a paintball gun shot 8 years prior, and the metacarpo-phalangeal joint was amputated. He gradually developed mechanical allodynia and burning pain, and there were trophic changes of the thenar muscle and he reported coldness on his left hand and forearm. A neuroma was found on the left second common digital nerve and was removed, but his symptoms continued despite various conservative treatments including a morphine infusion pump on his left arm. We therefore attempted median nerve stimulation to treat the chronic pain. The procedure was performed in two stages. The first procedure involved exposure of the median nerve on the mid-humerus level and placing of the electrode. The trial stimulation lasted for 7 days and the patient's symptoms improved. The second procedure involved implantation of a pulse generator on the left subclavian area. The mechanical allodynia and pain relief score, based on the visual analogue scale, decreased from 9 before surgery to 4 after surgery. The patient's activity improved markedly, but trophic changes and vasomotor symptom recovered only moderately. In conclusion, median nerve stimulation can improve chronic pain from complex regional pain syndrome type II.

  • A 33-year-old woman was presented with dyspnea and chest discomfort after indigesting approximately 500ml of oil paint brush washing fluid. Hypoxic symptoms and radiographic infiltrates rapidly progressed. The patient was intubated and received mechanical ventilation. Bronchoalveolar lavage and transbronchial lung biopsies were performed. The CT scan of the lung showed bilateral extensive pneumonitis with necrosis and the lung tissue pathologic findings showed diffuse alveolar damage with extensive necrosis and numerous lipid-laden macrophages. After intensive medical care with mechanical ventilation, her symptoms and radiological findings improved.

  • Arginine is one of the basic aminoacid found to be associated with histones and also one of the essential aminoacids now. Arginine is provided by diet, and also found to be synthesised in the body through intestinal-renal axis. Justification---BMI---Associated Risks-How to gain body weight---Healthy. Foods to Gain Weight Fast---High-Protein Vegetables and Fruits(with Image)-Recipes---Physical exercises-List of fruits and vegetables grown in Bangladesh with local names, English names and Botanical names-taxonomic family names. Arginine as drug was first approved by FDA and has recognised as a excellent dietary supplement for curing diseases like preeclampsia during gestation, diabetes and insulin resistance in obese patients. Preeclampsia is characterised by high blood pressure and proteinuria in gestational period of after 20 weeks. Severe preeclampsia is characterised by headaches, blurred vision, and inability to have high photovision, nausea and vomiting. L-Arginine along with Vit C and E are given as medical food to the patients and decrease in condition symptoms is the project now under phase II clinical trial. • A disease survey on the carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) wilt was conducted during the high temperature period (June through August) and the low temperature period (February through May) in 58 greenhouses of its major cultivation areas, including Pusan, Kimhae, and Changwon in Korea from 1998 to 1999. The disease incidence was averaged 5.4% and 11.9% in the low and high temperature periods, respectively. Severe damage was found in summer with high incidences of around 50% in some greenhouses. Close examination of the symptoms and isolation of the causal agent revealed that there was a new disease different from Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. dianthi, which was determined as the stub dieback caused by F. was cetermined as the stub dieback caused by F. graminearum (teleomorph : Gibberella zeae). The stub dieback symptoms involved brown rot of stem that started usually from the portion of cutting without discoloration of inner vascular tissues. Seven out of 38 isolates from the wilted plants were identified as F. graminearum, while the others as F. oxysporum f. sp. dianthi. Mycological characteristics of the stub dieback pathogen including colony color, absence of microconidia, and the shape of macroconidia, were consistent with F. graminearum previously described. This is the first report of the carnation stub dieback in Korea.

  • Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and Immunoglobulin (Ig) $G_4$-related disease ($IgG_4$-RD) are rare diseases and early diagnosis and proper management are imperative to prevent multi-organ damage. The authors present a case of a 60 years old woman who had facial paralysis and hearing loss. Lt intact canal wall tympanomastoidectomy, Lt facial nerve decompression and ossiculoplasty with partial ossicular replacement prosthesis (PORP) was done. During operation, middle ear tissue was biopsied and GPA with $IgG_4$-RD was diagnosed. After methyl prednisolone (MPD) pulse therapy and azathioprine therapy, the severity of paralysis was improved. We present this case because common otologic symptoms like facial palsy and hearing loss could be initial symptoms of rare systemic disease.

  • In a patient with blunt abdominal trauma with small bowel injury, early diagnosis is clinically challenging due to unclear clinical symptoms and signs in the early stage of an injury. On the other hand, a delay of diagnosis of bowel disruption may lead to increased complication and mortality. The diagnostic laparoscopy is very useful for the evaluation of the small bowel injury. Laparoscopy can reduce unnecessary open surgery in a patient with blunt abdominal trauma with subtle symptoms and imprecise findings on abdominal computed tomography. Also it can prevent delay of treatment and be converted immediately to open surgery as soon as bowel damage is revealed. Furthermore, extracorporeal repair of small bowel via mini-laparotomy after a single incision diagnostic laparoscopy in a patient with traumatic small bowel perforation was a feasible and safe alternative to conventional laparoscopy. We are pleased to introduce successfully treated cases by extracorporeal repair of small bowel via mini-laparotomy after a single incision diagnostic laparoscopy in a patient with small bowel perforation after blunt trauma.

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS) is a progressive disorder that causes degeneration of motor neurons of the brain and spinal cord. It is characterized by loss of motor neurons leading to muscle weakness, and sensation and mental function stay intact during the course of the disease. Diagnostic tests include magnetic response imaging(MRI), electromyogram(EMG), muscle biopsy, and blood tests. In order to a definitive diagnosis of ALS, damage must be evident in both upper and lower motor neurons. When three limbs are sufficiently affected, the diagnosis is ALS. There is no cure for ALS. We experienced one case of ALS, the patients was diagnosed as ALS by EMG and symptoms. We diagnosed her as ShinEumHur(SEH) and treated by Choakwiyeum(左歸飮). We report the change of her symptoms through oriental medical treatment.

  • Many psychiatric disorders are associated with brain functional dysfunctions and neuronal degeneration. According to the research so far, enhanced brain plasticity reduces neurodegeneration and recovers neuronal damage. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is one of the most extensively studied neurotrophins in the mammalian brain that plays major roles in neuronal survival, development, growth, and maintenance of neurons in brain circuits related to emotion and cognitive function. Also, BDNF plays an important role in brain plasticity, influencing dendritic spines in the hippocampus neurogenesis. Changes in neurogenesis and dendritic density can improve psychiatric symptoms and cognitive functions. BDNF has potent effects on brain plasticity through biochemical mechanisms, cellular signal pathways, and epigenetic changes. There are pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to increase the expression of BDNF and enhance brain plasticity. Non-pharmacological interventions such as physical exercise, nutritional change, environmental enrichment, and neuromodulation have biological mechanisms that increase the expression of BDNF and brain plasticity. Non-pharmacological interventions are cost-effective and safe ways to improve psychiatric symptoms.

  • Cancer is the first leading cause of death in Korea and the second leading cause of death in the USA. There is extensive research into prevention of cancer and the support of oncology patients with diet or dietary supplements. In vitro and in vivo animal studies have indicated that antioxidants, including beta-carotene, alpha-tocopherol, and ascorbic acid, can yield anti-cancer effects in addition to providing protection against oxidative damage. Although many observational studies have shown that consuming fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk of some cancers, the results of several large-scale human intervention trials testing the benefits of a single or combined higher-dose of individual micronutrients have been inconsistent. Cancer can cause profound metabolic and physiological changes which may affect patients' nutrient requirements. Although the optimal route of nutrient delivery is through diet, cancer patients often suffer symptoms that disrupt their food intake, including anorexia, premature satiety, altered taste and smell, and changes in bowel mobility. In particular, micronutrient deficits can slow postoperative healing, contribute to depression symptoms, and decrease immune competence. Cancer patients are generally motivated to take dietary supplements to improve responses to treatment and quality of life. The Physician's Health Study II (PHS II) randomized controlled trial reported recently that daily multivitamin supplementation significantly, albeit modestly, reduced the risk of total cancer. Although evidence of multivitamin use benefits is limited in cancer patients, taking dietary supplements with constituents in the range of the recommended daily allowance according to the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) recommendation is generally considered to be safe.
