  • In this paper, an entropy constrained vector quantizer for high bit-rates is proposed. The sample-adaptive product quantizer (SAPQ), which is based on the product codebooks, is employed, and a design algorithm for the entropy constrained sample adaptive product quantizer (ECSAPQ) is proposed. The performance of the proposed ECSAPQ is better than the case of the entropy constrained vector quantizer by 0.5dB. It is also shown that the ECSAPQ distortion curve, which is based on the scalar quantizer, is lower than the high-rate theoretical curve of the entropy constrained scalar quantizer, where the theoretical curve have 1.53dB difference from Shannon's lower bound.

  • Fabry-Perot cavity(FPC) antennas with artificial magnetic conductor(AMC) surface are designed in order to provide scan capability by $4{\times}1$ array feed inside the cavity. The proposed antenna, excited by $4{\times}1$ thinned array, not only achieve higher directivities but also improve suppression of sidelobe level(SLL) relative to that of the thin array alone. The FPC antenna with the height of a quarter wavelength generate maximum gain of 19 dB, SLL suppression of 14 dB and maximum scan angle of $8^{\circ}$ under the feed phase difference of $90^{\circ}$ at the design frequency of 12 GHz.

  • The effects of temperature on the visual color deterioration of Lithospermi radix were investigated under steady conditions of various pH and temperature. The changes of Hunter L, a, b, and ${\Delta}E$ values related to the color deterioration were sharply increased above $50^{\circ}C$ and the deteriorations were expressed linear relationships with the temperature above $60^{\circ}C$. Linear regression coefficients of Hunter L, a, b values decreased with an increase of heat treatment time, whereas the color difference was increased. The linear regression coefficients of Hunter L, a, b, ${\Delta}E$ values in 66.7% ethanol extract solution of Lithospermi radix for 1 hr were -0.3696, -0.4124, -0.2279, and 0.5983, respectively. Inear regression coefficients in color difference (${\Delta}E$) could be calculated from the coefficients in Hunter L, a, b values. The low pH treatment of extract from pH 6.07 to pH 1.35 led to decrease of Hunter a value and a little increase of Hunter L, b values, but the high pH treatment above pH 6.07 decreased all Hunter values. Particularly, the visual color of the extract of Lithospermiradix was appeared to be faborable at pH 4.0-6.5, which was a bright red color.

  • In this paper, design of series-fed microstrip antennas with sum and difference patterns is presented for millimeter-wave applications. The antenna was designed to exhibit high-gain and low side-lobe level(SLL) below -20 dB. A conventional transmission-line model, Taylor and Bayliss distributions were employed to determine current distribution for sum and difference patterns. Moreover, connecting lines between microstrip patches were tuned to achieve an optimized design. The measurement was also performed to validate the designed antennas.

  • This research presents a laboratory study about difference of subjective response between with and without pictures. A main source is impulsive sound caused by leisure shooting. The sources are sampled from outdoor noise and their levels range from 40 to 75 dB at the interval of 5dB. The noise unit is based on A-weighted sound exposure level (ASEL; $L_{AE}$). To make equal ASEL of outdoor noise, finite impulse response (FIR) filter is applied to the originally sampled source to include the effect of distance attenuation. The evaluation method of the jury test adopted a Semantic Difference(SD) Method. The intersection point which two lines crossed was used as reference point. The intersecting point of mean response rating between with and without pictures was approximately 44ASEL and that of %HA was about 60ASEL. In the result of the test, the negative effect of pictures was given at a lower levels than intersection point while the positive effect was given at a higher levels than that.

  • The delta driven GMSK is a modulation scheme to generate the gaussian pulse by the bipolar delta signal and to modulate the phase function with the differential gaussian pulse between $+T_b/2$ and $-T_b/2$. The demodulation of delta driven GMSK differs from conventional GMSK schemes. This paper proposed a demodulation with the differential phase detector at the end of each bit interval. A designed detector then finds the one of the possible region by hard decision, in which the phase difference lies. Finally the binary data can be recovered by state transition process. Through the BER simulation for AWGN channel, it was found that the proposed demodulation effected by the run length of binary data. The simulated BER degradation of about 2[dB] was analyzed, as compared to the theoretical coherent demodulation with $BT_b$=0.3.

  • The article contains an introduction of possibility of applying Multi-Attribute Utility Theory(MAUT) for priority setting of R&D projects. MAUT is compared with AHP, which is widely used recently. These two techuiques are applied to set priorities of R&D projects In a Government-funded Research Institute. Six criteria are chosen from consultation with decision makers. They are composed of 1) validity as representative projects, 2) possibility of resource mobilization, 3) spillover effect of developed technologies, 4) possibility of success, 5) scope of participation and 6) clarity of research goal. To set priorities of R&D projects, SMART(Simple MultiAttribute Rating Technique) and DVM(Difference Value Measurement) out of many MAUT methods are used to design the utility function and to determine the weights among criteria. The aggregation model is additive on the assumption the criteria are independent. AHP executes pairwise comparisons for criteria and alternatives. From the results of the case study, the results and theoretical characteristics are compared.

  • Statement of problem: When an implant is fixed, a fixture comes into contact with a tissue fluid. Adhesion of a tissue fluid to a surface of implant is various case by case. Purpose: The ultimate goal of this work is to analyze a correlation between a surface roughness and wettability of implant specimens. A measurement for wettability is performed considering 4 types of specimen implant with surface treatments different from each other to investigate the change of wettability with the elapse of time. Material and methods: Firstly, 20 specimens of titanium were prepared. The specimen were made of a commercial Titanium Grade IV with the diameter of 10 mm and the thickness of 1 mm. According to the method of surface treatment, the specimens were classified into 4 groups of 5 specimens per group. Group A: Machined Surface Group B: Anodized surface Group C: RBM (HA blasting) surface Group D: CMP (calcium methaphosphate) coating surface. Surface roughness of specimen was measured using SV-3000S4 (Mituyoto, Japan). The measurement was based on the standard of JIS1994. Sessile drop method was used to measure the wettability, which measures contact angle between implant disc and saline with the time interval of 5, 10, and 15 seconds. SPSS 11.0 was used to analyze the collected data. In order to analyze the difference of wettability and surface roughness according to implant surface treatment method. The statistical significance was tested with the confidence level of 95%. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the correlation of surface roughness and wettability. Results: The difference of surface roughness was statistically significant in the order of Group C ($1.69{\pm}0.26$), Group D ($1.58{\pm}0.16$), Group B ($0.78{\pm}0.14$) Group A ($0.18{\pm}0.05$). The wettability has also a statistically significant difference, which was in the order of group B ($17.70{\pm}2.66$), Group C ($27.86{\pm}4.52$), Group D ($66.28{\pm}3.70$) Group A ($70.52{\pm}8.00$). There was no difference in wettability with the passage of time. Conclusions: 1. The surface roughness was high in the order of RBM, CMP, Anodized, Machined group (P<.05). 2. The wettability was high in the order of Anodized, RBM, CMP, Machined group (P<.05). 3. There was no statistical significance in the correlation of surface roughness and wettability.

  • Wall absorption treatment effectively reduces reverberation, but requires a large area for a live room and each wall absorption affects speech intelligibility differently. In this study, we try to find the most effective wall for the absorption treatment using the beamforming array microphone in terms of speech intelligibility. The absorption importance factor is defined by using the collision number of reflected sounds on each wall. It allows estimating how much the speech signal will be enhanced by the absorption treatment. A cuboid room with a size of 107 m3 and a reverberation time of 1.1 s is selected for the simulation. When a Helmholtz-type absorption is treated on the wall with the most significant importance factor, the modified clarity for 500 and 1k Hz is improved by 5.1 dB and 4.8 dB respectively, and the speech transmission index is enhanced by 0.06. The difference in results between the proposed method and commercial simulation code is less than a Just-Noticeable Difference (JND). The absorption treatment on the wall with the most significant importance factor shows improvement greater than the wall with the largest area, and its difference is larger than a JND value.

  • The sigma naught (${\sigma}^0$) equation is essential to calculate geo-physical properties from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images for the applications such as ground target identification, surface classification, sea wind speed calculation, and soil moisture estimation. In this paper, we are suggesting new Kompsat-5 (K5) Radar Cross Section (RCS) and ${\sigma}^0$ equations reflecting the final SAR processor update and absolute radiometric calibration in order to increase the application of K5 SAR images. Firstly, we analyzed the accuracy of the K5 RCS equation by using trihedral corner reflectors installed in the Kompsat calibration site in Mongolia. The average difference between the calculated values using RCS equation and the measured values with K5 SAR processor was about $0.2dBm^2$ for Spotlight and Stripmap imaging modes. In addition, the verification of the K5 ${\sigma}^0$ equation was carried out using the TerraSAR-X (TSX) and Sentinel-1A (S-1A) SAR images over Amazon rainforest, where the backscattering characteristics are not significantly affected by the seasonal change. The calculated ${\sigma}^0$ difference between K5 and TSX/S-1A was less than 0.6 dB. Considering the K5 absolute radiometric accuracy requirement, which is 2.0 dB ($1{\sigma}$), the average difference of $0.2dBm^2$ for RCS equation and the maximum difference of 0.6 dB for ${\sigma}^0$ equation show that the accuracies of the suggested equations are relatively high. In the future, the validity of the suggested RCS and ${\sigma}^0$ equations is expected to be verified through the application such as sea wind speed calculation, where quantitative analysis is possible.
