Synthesis and Properties of Terdentates with Extra Pyridine Ring and Their Ru(II) Complexes

  • The synthesis and electronic as well as redox properties of four Ru(Ⅱ) complexes based on the ligand 4'-(4-pyridyl)-3,3';5',3"-bis-dimethylene-2,2';6',2"-terpyridine are reported. Each new complex is of the type [Ru(L)2]n+ and [Ru(tpy)(L)]n+, where L is the terdentate ligand with extra pyridine ring at 4'-position or is a N-methylated ligand and n=2, 3, or 4. Cyclic voltammetry indicates that the first electron added to the complex enters the viologen-type acceptor in N-methylated ligand.

  • Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fabric/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) composite with stable and high electrochemical activity was fabricated by chemical and electrochemical polymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) on a PET fabric in sequence. Effects of polymerization conditions on the following characteristics of the composite were studied: electrical conductivity and surface morphology. The electrochemical properties were also investigated by cyclic voltammetry and cyclic charge/discharge experiments. The specific volume resistivity, electrical conductivity and specific discharge capacitance of the composite were 0.034 $\Omega-cm$ and 25 S/cm, and 54.5 F/g, respectively.

Nickel Hexacyanoferrate 이온교환체의 전기화학적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Electrochemical Characteristics of the Nickel Hexacyanoferrate Ion Exchanger)

  • For the study on the ion exchange of nickel hexacyanoferrate(NiHCNFe) electrode with the several cations, the film of hexacyanoferrate was prepared on the bare nickel surface by the electrochemical and chemical methods in the solution composed with 5mM K3Fe(CN)6 and 100mM KNO3. To compare the capability of the ion exchange of NiHCNFe film electrode, the repeated cyclic voltammograms were measured in the 0.5M cation nitrate solutions at $25^{\circ}C$ and pH7. It was found that the capacity of the electrochemically derivatized NiHCNFe reduced in the rate of 0.5~0.7%/cycle and was nearly exhausted at the 150th potential cycle. Better result was obtained from that the capacity loss of the chemically assembled NiHCNFe was less than 0.02%/cycle for 5,000cycles. Furthermore, the residual capacity was more than 30% at the 5,000th cycle.

  • We have investgated the photoisomerization using light irradiation 8A5H-phospholipid( L-$\alpha$-dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine[DMPC], L-$\alpha$-dilauroylphosphatidylcholine[DLPC]mixture LB film accumulated by monolayer on an ITO. We determined electrochemical measurement by using cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system, An Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a platinum wire counter electrode and LB film-coated ITO working electrode measured in $NaClO_{4}$ solution at a variable concentration and variable number layers LB film. The scan rate was 100mV/s.

탄소나노섬유/코발트산화물 복합전극의 케폐시턴스 특성 (Capacitance Property for a Carbon-nanofiber/Cobalt Oxide Composite Electrode)

  • Composite electrode consisting of carbon nanofiber (CNF) and cobalt oxide was prepared for supercapacitor electrode, and its electrochemical property was investigated by means of cyclic voltammetry. Cyclic voltammetric results for the composite electrode showed it had specific capacitance value of 420 F/g at 5 mV/s, which was higher than capacitance value of 180 F/g for the bare CNF. It is concluded that the capacitive property of CNF can be improved by coating cobalt oxide on it to increase the surface area of cobalt oxide.

  • Recently, computational calculation of molecular energy potentials and electrochemical reduction/oxidation behaviors are of very importance in view point of prediction of dye's properties such as energy levels and bandgaps of absorption. This can be influenced by their different constituents or substituents in chromogen molecules. Structural conformations and properties with computational modeling calculation are numerically simulated, which are fully or partly based on fundamental laws of physics. In addition, cyclic voltammetric measurement was used to obtain the experimental redox potential values, which were compared to the computed simulation values.

  • The energy levels are very important to investigate properties of organic dye materials. These values of energy levels can be calculated and compared with absorption spectra, cyclic voltammetric measurement and computer simulative calculation. In this study, absorption and emission changes were observed by complexation between rhodamine 6G based dye and mercury. This is related to spirolactam ring system of rhodamine 6G based dye. According to structural change of this dye, HOMO and LUMO energy levels were investigated and determined by their values with different approaches.

  • The basic electrochemical and photochemical behavior of ultrathin mono- and hetero-type LB film of amphiphilic Ru bipyridine complex adsorbed on ITO electrode by the Langmuir- Blodgett(LB) method as monolayer and alternating multilayer state. With theoretical equation of cyclic voltammetry for redox species, the cyclic voltammogram were simulated successfully taking account the interaction parameters. We could fit almost all measured voltammograms with k$^{\circ}$=72s$\^$-1/, ${\alpha}$$\sub$a/=0.44, ${\alpha}$$\sub$c/=0.54, $\Gamma$$\sub$T/=1.4${\times}$10$\^$-10/, k=0.015s$\^$-1/ values. The AFM images of mono and hetero type LB film surfaces on ITO were also studied.

Comparison of chemical properties of Co(II) and Cu(II) Compounds with Bis-Phenol A(Endocrine Disrupter)

  • The chemical behavior and properties of the redox state of environmental pollutants were investigated using electrochemical methods. Cyclic voltammograms were performed on the compounds to measure the variations in the redox reactions. Temperature and pH were established as influencing the redox potential and current. The electrode reactions were a mixture of quasi-reversible and irreversible Precesses, which changed according to the reaction current. Although the Co(BPA)$_2$ and Cu(BPA)$_2$ compounds were not found to dissociate in wastewater, they were very unstable(K=1.02).

  • The chemical behavior and properties of the redox state of environmental pollutants was investigated using electrochemical methods. The purpose was to measure the variations in the redox reaction of differential pulse polarograms and cyclic voltammograms. The results observed the influences on redox potential and current of various factors including concentration, temperature, salt, and pH. These were established factors as the effect of the redox reaction. It can be clearly recognized that the electrode reaction are from reversible to irreversible processes. Also, it was mixing with reaction current controlled.
