  • In this paper, we proposed the new medium access control protocol for the virtual token bus netowrk. The network is applied to inter-processor communication network of large capacity digital switching system and digital mobile system with distributed control architecture. in the virtual token bus netowrk, the existing medium access control protocols hav ea switchove rtime overhead when traffic load is light or asymmetric according ot arbitration address of node that has message to send. The proposed protocol optimized average message delay using cyclic bus access chain to exclude switchover time of node that do not have message to send. Therefore it enhanced bus tuilization and average message delay that degrades the performance of real time communication netowrks. It showed that the proposed protocol is more enhacned than virtual token medium access control protocol and virtual token medium access control protocol iwth reservation through performance analysis.

  • Various hybrid dampers have been developed as increasing tall buildings in Korea. To minimize the installment space and cost, the new hybrid friction damper was developed using friction components. It is composed of two one-nodal rotary frictional components and a slotted bolted frictional connection. Because of these components, hybrid friction damper can be activated by building movements due to lateral forces such as a wind and earthquake. In this paper, displacement amplitude dependency tests were carried out to evaluate on the structural performance and the multi-slip mechanism of the hybrid damper. Test results show that the multi-slip mechanism is verified and friction coefficients are increasing as displacement amplitudes are increasing.

  • A low complexity, fault detecting computer architecture for utilisation in programmable logic controllers is designed. The cyclic operating mode of PLCs and a specification level, graphical programming paradigm based on the interconnection of application oriented standard software function modules are architecturally supported. Thus, by design, there is no semantic gap between the programming and machine execution levels enabling the safety licensing of application software by an extremely simple, but rigorous method, viz, diverse back translation.

  • This experimental investigation was conducted to examine the behaviour of eight one-third scale columns made of high-strength concrete (HSC). The columns were subjected to a constant axial load corresponding to 30 per cent of the column axial load capacity and a cyclic horizontal load-inducing reversed bending moment. The variables studied in this research are the volumetric ratio of transverse reinforcement, tie configuration and tie yield strength. Columns with 42 per cent higher amounts of transverse reinforcement than that required by seismic provisions of ACI 318-02 showed ductile behaviour. Relationships between the calculated damage index and the observed damage such as initial crack, spalling of concrete, buckling of longitudinal bar, and crushing of concrete are propose.

  • The application of metal deck floor system is increasing gradually and especially for office buildings. In the cases of large parking structures and storage structures, the construction period and the cost can be reduced. Also the steel deck system can prevent the crack of a floor and reduce the retrofit expenses. However, the floor should stand for the repeated truck load which is relatively heavier repeated loading. The mechanical behavior of a slab under repeated load is also different from the static loading state. An evaluation of a structural capacity was performed in this study through the dynamic capacity evaluation experiment for an application of a composite deck floor system as a parking structure slab. The period of repeated loadings were set up as 25years and 960,000 times monotone cyclic loads were applied at the center of the specimens. The tension crack propagation and patterns at the center of specimens were examined.

  • This paper presents the seismic performance of seven beam-column joints with an eccentricity between beam depths under cyclic loadings. The failure modes of the panel zone were divided into two types. One was the shear force failure that appeared in the entire panel zone (SFEPZ), the other was the shear force failure that appeared in the partial panel zone (SFPPZ). Seven finite element models were established using multi-scale methods. Compared with the experimental specimens, the hysteretic loops exhibited a similar trend. The multi-scale models could accurately simulate the experimental results. Furthermore, the calculation formulas of yield and plastic shear capacity of unequal-depth joints with outer annular stiffener were proposed.

  • Steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) have been recognized as an effective seismic-force resisting systems due to their excellent strength and stiffness characteristics. The infill steel plate in a SPSW is constrained by a boundary frame consisting of vertical and horizontal structural members. The main purpose of this study was to investigate deformation modes and hysteretic characteristics of steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) to consider the effects of their aspect ratios and width-to-thicness ratios. The finite element model (FEM) was establish in order to simulate cyclic responses of SPSWs which have the two-side clamped boundary condition and made of conventional steel grade. The stress distribution obtained from the FEA results demonstrated that the principal stresses on steel plate with large thickness-to-width ratio were more uniformly distributed along its horizontal cross section due to the formation of multiple struts.

  • This paper describes the experimental study on the structural behavior of the vertical plane connection between a reinforced concrete wall and a steel plate concrete wall under out-of-plane flexural loads. The specimen was tested under a dynamic test with the use of cyclic loads. As a result of the test, ductile failure mode of vertical bars was shown under a push load and the failure load was more than that of the nominal strength of the specimen. However, the shear failure mode of the connection was confirmed in case of a pull test and thus demonstrates a need for a shear reinforcement.

  • This study that is a successive secondary study right after the primary bending strength test of a new form of U-shape hybrid composite beam is a cyclic seismic test of U-shape hybrid composite beam and column conncetion. Three specimens are built for the variables which are kinds of columns, depth of beam, continuity or discontinuity of upper plate of beam, and a number of steel bars of end-beam. Kinds of columns are a reinforcement concrete column and a ACT column of CFT shape, and beam depth are 300, and 500 mm. Detail of connection is bolt connection with using a short bracket that is commonly use. As the result, deformability of 2~4% is ensured the floor displacement angle. If it is the negative moment, the maximum moment shows that its capacity is above the nominal moment.

  • To resolve the conservative requirements for clear headed-bar spacing in KBC 2016 and ACI 318-08, two 2/3-scale exterior beam-column connections were tested under cyclic seismic loading. The seismic tests primarily explored the effect on their seismic performance of using (a) small clear spacings and (b) multiple layers of headed reinforcements in the beam. Also, the previous test data were thoroughly analyzed. It was concluded that the clear bar spacing of 2db or the use of two bar layers might be permitted for headed reinforcements embedded in exterior beam-column connections.
