  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and evaluate a Web-based program for the maternal role of primiparas who use the internet. Method: The study process was a systems requirements analysis, design and development of a program, program testing by experts, program implementation, and program evaluation by users. A nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design was used. The data was collected from October 5th, 2002 to February 24th, 2003. Result: 1. Based on inquiries into mothers' needs, a Web-based support program was developed. The program was then modified from feedback received from experts. 2. In a sub-scale analysis of mothers' perception of a baby, amenability and persistence was significantly higher in the intervention group. The differences in the mean score of maternal self-confidence and maternal satisfaction were significant. 3. Cyber counseling was done for a total of 73 cases and the most frequent problems for counseling were feeding and nutrition (28.8%), followed by baby care, and health problems. Conclusion: It was proven that a Web-based support program provided appropriate support to primiparas and was effective in promoting their maternal role. Therefore, this study suggests that a Web-based support program for primiparas can become a powerful nursing intervention on virtually all mother and infant health concerns.

  • This research aimed to investigate the relations of perfectionism and multicultural attitude upon a premise that sub-factors of the perfectionism : self-oriented perfectionism, other-oriented perfectionism and socially-prescribed perfectionism are related to multicultural attitude and to examine the moderation effect of self-acceptance on the relation between perfectionism and multicultural attitude. The questionnaires designed to measure multidimensional perfectionism, unconditional self-acceptance and multicultural attitude were administered to 258 office workers in Seoul and Gyeoggi-Do. The results from correlation analysis and regression analysis were as followed. First, sub-factors of the perfectionism was partially associated with sub-factors of multicultural attitude. In particular two sub-factors of the perfectionism : 'self-oriented perfectionism', 'other-oriented perfectionism' yielded effect on multicultural attitude, controlling the effects of other subscales. Second, unconditional self-acceptance moderated the relation between 'self oriented perfectionism' and sub-factor of the multicultural attitude : 'recognizing difference'. And unconditional self-acceptance moderated the relation between 'socially prescribed perfectionism' and sub-factors of the multicultural attitude : 'recognizing difference', 'openness and acceptance'. This present findings not only extend understandings about relationship between perfectionism and multicultural attitude by examining self-concept : unconditional self-acceptance but also provide that it isn't helpful that further support and rationale for unconditional self-acceptance as intervention for targets to focus in counseling process for those who suffer from perfectionism.

  • This study examined the effect on calling and the role of optimism, work hope, religion and supportive parenting. Furthermore, this study tested if personal characteristic variables (optimism and work hope) and personal environmental variables (religion and supportive parenting) would affect how the path would reach. 277 male and female undergraduate students were surveyed. The data was analyzed by AMOS and SPSS. The results were as follows. First, structural equation modeling analyses indicated that supportive parenting and optimism had a direct influence on work hope, and work hope had a significant effect on calling. Religion was not influenced by calling. Second, predictors including work hope, optimism, and supportive parenting accounted for calling well. The implication for practice and future research on calling in counseling and education area are discussed.

  • A FRET-based high-throughput screening system was developed for the discovery of competitive smallmolecule Hsp90 inhibitors. The biarsenical fluorescein derivative FlAsH and dabcyl-conjugated Hsp90 inhibitor GM were employed as the FRET donor and quencher, respectively. The spatial proximity perturbation between FlAsH-labeled Hsp90N and GM-dabcyl upon treatment of a small molecule led to changes in the FRET-induced fluorescence, monitored in a high-throughput fashion.

  • The present study explores how the stress of online learners is related to Korean cultural norms and social expectation and presents the criteria online education should aim at when designing instructional approaches. A sample of 176 students from a Korean online university participated in a study investigating the patterns in the academic and personal stressors they face. This study also examines stressor types in relation to sample characteristics, analyzed with a categorization method developed by extant researchers on the stress faced by U.S. college students. Unlike the findings of previous studies on college student stress, this study's results reveal that nontraditional Korean online students were faced with (1) taking on the multiple roles at work and home prescribed by cultural and social norms, and (2) challenges in regulating study habits and the learning environment as adult learners. The relevant implications for the design of online learning are discussed.

  • Dealing with existential concerns experienced by patients is an important part of palliative care. Interventions that use the life review method to encourage patients to reminisce about their lives can help them find new positive meanings, promote ego integrity, and reduce emotional suffering. Not everyone has positive memories when they look back on the past, however. This poses a limit on the effectiveness of the life review method for healthcare providers working in palliative care contexts. In this study, we discuss the limits of life review and suggest imagery rescripting as a new modality constituting a psychotherapeutic approach to deal with negative memories safely and effectively.

  • The purpose of this research is to verify the mediation effect of emotional regulation on the relationship between social anxiety and relational aggression in higher-grade elementary school girls. The research was conducted with 177 female students in grades 4, 5, and 6 attending an elementary school in Inchon, South Korea, and the results were used as a social anxiety scale, an emotional regulation ability scale, and a relational aggression scale. From using the data for multiple regression analysis, the results of this study are as follows. First, social anxiety showed a significant negative correlation with emotional regulation, and showed a significant positive correlation with relational aggression. Emotional regulation and social anxiety showed a significant negative correlation with relational aggression. Second, emotional regulation was fully mediated from the effect of social anxiety on relational aggression. Third, as a result of verifying the mediating effects from subordinate factors of emotional regulation on the relationship between social anxiety and relational aggression, positive emotional regulation, such as problem-centered coping support seeking was found to be partially mediated, whereas negative emotional regulation, such as emotional divergence, aggressive expression, and avoidance, was found to be fully mediated. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study are discussed.
