  • The presence of cutting fluid for cutting tool and workpiece leads a temperature decrease, and reduces tool wear and residual stress. Moreover, it disposes chips from cutting area, and reduces thermal distortion. However, in manufacturing, cutting fluid used in cutting process is undesirable for both human and environmental aspect. Also, it's not economic for cutting cost. This paper studied experimentally the effects of cutting parameters on the characteristics of mist generation in turning. The results of experiment are as follows: 1) The more severe cutting conditions the more mist generate, 2) The ratio of weight concentrations of cutting fluid nearly have no an effect on the amounts of mist generation 3) The size of SMD is not affected by cutting parameters.

  • The trend of the plasma cutting and laser cutting technology of metal alloys including high strength steel, aluminum alloys for the welding structures has been studied. The high-precision plasma systems offer a denser, higher energy arc that in effect produces a sharper cutting tool and high quality cutting products. The high-quality fiber laser systems with compact design and easy set-up make it ideal for cutting in the pipeline or steel structre manufacturing. This paper covers the scientometric analysis of the high efficient cutting technology which are based on the published research works in the 'plasma and laser', and 'cutting technology' obtained from Web of Science, and deals with the details of the background data of the plasma cutting and laser cutting technology.

  • The complex three-dimensional miniature components are needed for a wide range of applications from the aerospace to the biomedical industries. To manufacture these products, micro machining that can make a high aspect ratio part and has good accuracy is widely researched. In this paper, cutting characteristics were analyzed in micro machining using cutting force coefficients, which are the specific cutting force for normal and frictional direction of rake surface. From measured cutting force in micro end milling, cutting condition independent cutting force coefficients were determined and used for analysing the characteristics of micro cutting. Using the cutting force coefficient, 써써써.

  • One of the most important things in shipbuilding is to select light and high tensile strength materials. Therefore, the use of Al alloy in shipbuilding become an increase. In cutting the aluminum plate, the quality of the cut surface is strongly influenced by the cutting conditions such as cutting speed, kerf width, plate thickness, cutting materials, and applied gas pressure. The cutting experiment of Al alloy plate(5083) were carried out using LASER cutting machine. The upper and lower of kerf width, the surface roughness(Ra, Rmax) of cut surface were measured under various cutting conditions. The morphologies of cutting surface were also monitored at various cutting conditions. The optimum cutting conditions of Al alloy among tested were indicated.

  • The cutting force in a cutting simulation is determined by the cutting conditions, such as cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut. The cutting force changes, depending on the material and cutting conditions, and is affected by the heat generated during cutting. The physical properties for predicting the cutting force use constitutive equations as functions of the hardening term, rate-hardening term, and thermal-softening term. To accurately predict the thermal properties, it is necessary to accurately predict the thermal-softening coefficient. In this study, the thermal-softening coefficient was determined, and the cutting force was predicted, using the response-surface method with the cutting conditions and the thermal-softening coefficient as factors.

  • The finite element method is applied to analyze the mechanism of metal cutting, especially micro metal cutting. This paper introduces some effects, such as constitutive deformation laws of workpiece material, friction of tool-chip contact interfaces, tool rake angle and also simulate the cutting process, chip formation and geometry, tool-chip contact, reaction force of tool. Under the usual plane strain assumption, quasi-static analysis were performed with variation of tool-chip interface friction coefficients and tool rake angles. In this analysis, cutting speed, cutting depth set to 8m/sec, 0.02mm, respectively. Some cutting parameters are affected to cutting force, plastic deformation of chip, shear plane angle, chip thickness and tool-chip contact length and reaction forces on tool. Several aspects of the metal cutting process predicted by the finite element analysis provide information about tool shape design and optimal cutting conditions.

  • The elimination of chatter vibration is necessary to improve the precision and the productivity of the cutting operation. A new mathematical model of chatter vibration is presented in order to predict the dynamic cutting force from the static cutting data. The dynamic cutting force is analytically expressed by the static cutting coefficient and the dynamic cutting coefficient which can be determined from the cutting mechanics. The stability analysis is carried out by a two degree of freedom system. The chatter experiments are conducted by exciting the cutting tool with an impact hammer during an orthogonal cutting. A good agreement is shown between the stability limits predicted by theory and the critical width of cut determined by experiments.

  • Purpose: In this study, we attempted to analyze, by using a high-speed camera, the cutting shape as a function of cutting speed and feed rate. We compared the differences in cutting shape between domestic and foreign combines. Methods: Experiments were performed using plastic straws, and the results of two combine cutting blades, one from the Daedong Industry and one from Kuboda, were compared. The quality and performances of cutting were measured at three cutting positions: center and 68 cm to the left and right of the center. The feed rates were 0.6 m/s, 1.1 m/s, 1.6 m/s, and the cutting speeds were 600 RPM, 990 RPM, 1,380 RPM. For each speed, the cutting shape was measured three times, and the entire procedure was also repeated three times. Results: In the experiments, the domestic cutting blade achieved better results than the Japanese cutting blade. These results were obtained by studying the combination of feed rate and cutting speed, with the domestic combine attaining approximately 80% performance of the Japanese combine. We believe that additional data analysis is required, obtained from field experiments. Conclusions: The domestic cutting knives achieved better results than the Japanese cutting knives. These results are estimated from experiments conducted with different feed rates and cutting speeds; an in-depth analysis will require experiments in the real field with actual combines and a combination of multiple variables. Repeating the investigation on the length differences, broken and cut angle with various combinations of feed rate and cutting speed, will surely help to find the optimal cutting speed.

  • In this study the effect of roundness error with respect to the cutting conditions using the external cylindrical work piece by end mill cutting in a machining center was studied. the end mill used in this study is HSS coated with Ti-N which is of Ø 12-4 flutes. The material of workpiece is SM20C and cutting oil is used as a cooling flued The cutting experiments were carried out for the several cutting conditions(depth of cut height of end mill feed rate revolution per minute and cutting direction) and their roundness effects were compared using the least squares circle measuring method. The experimental results are summarized as follows : 1) The cutting depth is dominant for the roundness of a cylindrical work piece and the cutting speed must be determined precisely when the cutting depth is large 2) When the cutting direction in circular manufacturing is the same with the spindle rotation i.e up-cutting condition the surface roundness is also improved.

  • This study was aimed to characterize the laser cutting process for the cold rolled stainless steel sheet. The principal process parameters of the cutting process were applied to both the continuous wave form and the pulsed wave form for the laser output mode. The laser-oxygen cutting process and the laser-nitrogen cutting process were also considered to characterize the quality and efficiency of the cutting process. The laser-oxygen cutting process revealed the better productivity than the laser-nitrogen cutting process, since the laser energy and the exothermic oxidation energy exerted on the laser-oxygen cutting process simultaneously during the entire cutting process. However, the straightness of the cutting section, which was considered as the most important factors, was inferior to that of the laser-nitrogen cutting process due to the formation of chromum oxide on the cutting surface. Frequency and duration of the pulsed wave form act as the main factors for the better quality, When the frequency increased from 100 Hz to 200 Hz and the duty increased from 20% to 40%, the quality factors such as the height of dross and the surface roughness were improved remarkably. The increase in the frequency from 200 Hz to 300 Hz, on the other hand, revealed the less effective in the cutting quality.
