  • The underground transmission lines which have been built to expand the suppling facilities will be continuously accompanying with high growth of the increase of power demand in the metropolitan area in recent years. So, it is necessary to maximize the ability and reliability of power supply with the current-carrying capability of the underground transmission lines. Design criteria of KEPCO is to be presented and used frequently. But it has to be studied about the installation methods of power cable buried in ground. In this study, we used the program for calculating the current-carrying capability of underground transmission power cables. We estimated the maximum permissible current values by the horizontal arrangement in the installation methods of power cable(154kV XLPE $600mm^2$) buried ducts in ground. To see the general tendency of the analysis, we researched a statistical analysis with such parameters as the maximum permissible current values. Through the regression analysis, we analyze the most highly values of the maximum permissible current on the Ra type duct arrangement.

  • The current practice of estimating bearing capacity usually employs the conventional bearing capacity formula originally developed for strip footings under vertical central loading, In order account for the effect of footing shape and eccentricity and inclination of loads, correction factors are introduced in the formula, which are derived based on a number of small-scale model test observations. In this paper, comparison of several formulations of bearing capacity factors, as well as values of these factors, are presented. And the conventional bearing capacity equations are compared with some of other failure loci proposed for cohesive soil. Also, the bearing capacity of shallow foundation estimated by the conventional bearing capacity equations are compared with the experimental load test results.

  • Recently, auger-drilled piling has been widely used in urban area to reduce the air pollution and noise. But this construction method that its basic theory was introduced from Japan may be changed depending on the each piling company and construction field condition. Therefore, the design code and management method for auger-drilled piling is not defined yet. Especially, the lack of research on the bearing capacity of auger-drilled piling leads to the absence of rational bearing capacity prediction equation. This paper presents the optimum design code and economical construction method of the auger-drilled piling by proposing the new bearing capacity prediction equation based on the site specific soil types and construction conditions. In this paper, existing bearing capacity prediction equations and current pile load tests were compared. And the end bearing capacity and skin friction characteristics were also analyzed by comparing the results of CAPWAP. From the results of analysis, a reliable bearing capacity prediction equation considered soil types is proposed.

  • Voltage unbalance is regarded as a power quality problem of significant at the user application. Although the voltages are quite well balanced at the transmission system, the voltage level of utilization can be unbalanced due to the unequal system impedances and the unequal distribution of single phase loads. Capacitor is generally used for power-factor compensation and reducing harmonics of non linear load with reactor. If voltage unbalance exists, current unbalance is generated and it will be reflected in the capacity variance. When the reactor and condenser are used at the same location, generally its trouble rate is high. And it is very important checking out that how the variance of voltage, current and capacity of condenser is proceeded by the voltage unbalance. In this paper, we calculated that voltage, current and capacity of condenser are within the tolerance limit of official regulations in the event of voltage unbalance with/without reactor.

  • The purpose of this study is to secure the basis for judgment on the cause of an accident by analyzing the melting characteristics of a blade type fuse used for vehicles due to overload. In order to increase the reliability of the test, it was conducted by connecting the electrical system with conditions similar to those of an actual vehicle to apply the load. Carbonization pattern experiment of fuse by outside flame applied Korean Standard (KS). The fuse melted by the overcurrent showed a smooth cross-section while the test terminals, clear plastic body, etc., burnt out by the external flame was badly deformed. When 185% of the rated current (27.8A) was applied to a cable of 15A rated current onto which an over-capacity fuse (20A) was installed, the fuse melting time was 217 seconds. In addition, when a load current of 28.8[A] (139%) was applied, the fuse's test terminal and terminal blade were not burnt out although foam was observed on some parts of the plastic body. When a load capacity of 28.2[A] (141%) was applied to a cable of 15A rated current onto which an over-capacity fuse (30A) was installed, the fuse melting time was approximately 10 seconds. When a load current of 35.8[A] (119%) was applied, the fuse's test terminal and terminal blade were not burnt out, although some parts of the plastic body was swelled. However, it was observed that the switch terminal melted if approximately six minutes lapsed under such conditions. When a load capacity of 39.4[A] (131%) was applied to a cable of 15A rated current onto which an over-capacity fuse (30A) was installed, the fuse melted in approximately 69 seconds, and the test terminal and terminal blade were not burnt.

  • Current seismic design codes for building structures are based on the method which can provide enough capacity to satisfy objected performance level and exactly evaluate the seismic performance of buildings. The capacity spectrum method using the nonlinear static(pushover) analysis is becoming a popular tool for evaluating the seismic performance of existing and new building structures. By means of a graphical procedure capacity spectrum method esimates the performance level of structure by comparing the capacity of structure with the demand of earthquake ground motion on the structure. In the method the relation between base shear estimated by a nonlinear static analysis and horizontal displacement is used. Capacity spectrum is usually expressed as what represent the responses of the equivalent single degree of freedom (ESDOF) system for the building structures. However there are some problems in converting procedures into ESDOF system which include not considering the effect of higher modes of structures. The objective of this paper is to compare and verify existing methods and suggest the modified capacity spectrum for seismic performance evaluation of building structures.

  • The seismic performance of moment frames could vary according to the rotation capacity of their connections. The minimum rotation capacity of moment connections for steel intermediate moment frames (IMF) was defined as 0.02 radian in AISC 341-10. This study evaluated the seismic performance of IMF frames with connections having a rotation capacity of 0.02 radian. For this purpose, thirty IMFs were designed according to current seismic design provisions considering different design parameters such as the number of stories, span length, and seismic design categories. The procedure specified in FEMA P695 was used for conducting seismic performance evaluation. It was observed that the rotation capacity of 0.02 radian could not guarantee the satisfactory seismic performance of IMFs. This study also conducted seismic performance evaluation for IMFs with connections having the rotation capacity of 3% and ductile connections for proposing the minimum rotation capacity of IMF connections.

  • In this paper, for magnetic silence technology of naval vessel, is to make lab deperm system and to evaluate the deperm capacity of naval vessel regarding deperm protocol. Initial permanent magnetic field of naval vessel is magnetized before deperm, having the magnetic field of the same size, to evaluate the deperm capacity regarding a variety of deperm protocol for experimental reliability growth. Current dead time effect of deperm protocol is measured at the different initial current, which are 8A, 6A and 4A respectively. Furthermore, the experiment under the same condition except changing duty cycle into 50% is carried out. As a result, it is possible to compare the six different experiment outcomes. The result shows that the experiment with dead time improve the deperm capacity more than 48.51 percent comparing to the case without dead time.

  • The natural carbon cycle has been perturbed since the mid-19th century by anthropogenic CO$_2$emissions from fossil fuel combustion and deforestation due to population growth and industrialization. The current study simulated the global carbon cycle for the past 42 years using an eight-box carbon cycle model. The results showed that since the terrestrial biospheric carbon sink was roughly offset by the deforestation source, the fossil fuel emission source was partitioned between the atmospheric and oceanic sinks. However, the partitioning ratio between the atmosphere and the ocean exhibited a change, that is, the carbon accumulation rate was faster in the atmosphere than in the ocean, due to a decrease in the so-called ocean buffering capacity. It was found that the ocean buffering capacity to take up excess CO$_2$decreased by 50% in terms of the buffer factor over the past 42 years. Accordingly, these results indicate that if the current CO$_2$emission trend continues, the future rate of increase in the atmospheric CO$_2$concentration will accelerate.
