  • It was the purpose of this study to determine the galvanic current between a gold alloy inlay and four types of amalgam using the circuit through pulp chambers when the freshly extracted teeth with those restorations were brought into contact in a physiologic saline solution, and to investigate the effectiveness of cavity varnish or ammonated silver-nitrate on the surface of amalgam restoration in reducing galvanic current. The current was measured with current-to-voltage converter and recored on a physiograph 6630-257. The following results were obtained. 1. Generally, galvanic current decreased as the time elapsed. 2. Galvainc current decreased significantly in the first day and after then minimal change was observed until 30th day. 3. Initial galvanic current was 29.6 ${\mu}A$ in the cut amalgam and 24.5 ${\mu}A$ in Dispersalloy amalgam and after then the current was significantly decreased. 4. Initial galvanic current was 12.6 ${\mu}A$ in spherical amalgam (low copper amalgam) and 13.8 ${\mu}A$ in Tytin amalgam and the amount of change was lower in sperical amalgam and Tytin amalgam than that in lathe cut amalgam and Dispersalloy amalgam. 5. Painting ammoniated silver-nitrate or Copalite on the surface of amalgam resotration decreased initial galvanic current and ammoniated silver-nitrate is more effective in decreasing galvanic current than Copalite. 6. Galvanic current by contact between amalgam restoration and gold restoration increased abruptly and dropped rapidly becoming almost.

  • The 4-probe method with a voltage tap on terminals has been used for the measurement of the critical current of multi-strand high-Tc superconducting (HTS) cables. And the critical current of cables is obtained as the measured total current divided by the number of conductor when the terminal voltage exceeds the predetermined criterion of critical current. However, because of the non-uniform current distribution due to the different critical current, shapes, and other characteristics of each conductor this is not applicable method to the multi-strand HTS cable. To determine the critical current of multi-strand HTS cable the critical current of each conductor must be measured with different method. In this paper, the current distribution and the critical current of each conductor in multi-strand cable were measured with specially made pick-up coils and voltage taps. It is presented that the real critical current of multi-strand is smaller than sum of each conductors. The main cause of non-uniform current distribution is the different resistances appeared in each HTS wires.

  • This paper proposes a modified current differential relay for $Y-{\Delta}$ transformer protection. The relay uses the same restraining current as a conventional relay, but the differential current is modified to compensate for the effects of the exciting current. A method to estimate the circulating component of the delta winding current is proposed. To cope with the remanent flux, before saturation, the core-loss current is calculated and used to modify the measured differential current. When the core then enters saturation, the initial value of the flux is obtained by inserting the modified differential current at the start of saturation into the magnetization cure. Thereafter, the core flux is then derived and used in conjunction with the magnetization curve to calculate the magnetizing current. A modified differential current is then derived that compensates for the core-loss and magnetizing currents. The performance of the proposed differential relay was compared against a conventional differential relay. Test results indicate that the modified relay remained stable during severe magnetic inrush and over-excitation, because the exciting current was successfully compensated. This paper concludes by implementing the relay on a hardware platform based on a digital signal processor. The relay does not require additional restraining signal and thus cause time delay of the relay.

  • It is necessary to measure the current of rotor for controlling the active and reactive power generated by the stator side of the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) system. There are offset and scaling errors in the current measurement. The offset and scaling errors cause one and two times current ripples of slip frequency in the synchronous reference frame of vector control, respectively. This paper proposes a compensation method to reduce their ripples. The stator current is variable according to the wind force but the rotor current is almost constant. Therefore input of the rotor current is more useful for a compensation method. The proposed method adopts the synchronous d-axis current of the rotor as the input signal for compensation. The ripples of the measurement errors can be calculated by integrating the synchronous d-axis stator current. The calculated errors are added to the reference current of rotor as input of the current regulator, then the ripples are reduced. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • For grid-connected LCL-filtered inverters, the inverter-side current can be used as the control object with one current sensor for both LCL resonance damping and over-current protection, while the grid-voltage feedforward or harmonic resonant compensator is used for suppressing low-order grid current harmonics. However, it was found that the grid current harmonics were high and often beyond the standard limitations with this control. The limitations of the inverter-side current control in suppressing low-order grid current harmonics are analyzed through inverter output impedance modeling. No matter which compensator is used, the maximum magnitudes of the inverter output impedance at lower frequencies are closely related to the LCL parameters and are decreased by increasing the control delay. Then, to improve the grid current quality without complicating the control or design, this study proposes designing the filter capacitance considering the current harmonic constraint and using a PWM mode with a short control delay. Test results have confirmed the limitation and verified the performance of the improved approaches.

  • In order to widely disseminate LED lighting, LED lighting technology that directly uses AC commercial power has been recently introduced. AC powered LED lighting technology has a problem in that the light brightness of the LED changes because the voltage applied to the LED and the current flowing through the LED continuously change. In this study, when the LED current is greater than the design current, the current control signal generated by the controller is supplied to the current source to supply only the design current to the LED by increasing the voltage drop at the current source. If it is smaller than the design current, the controller is adjusted so that the current is supplied only to the LED without a voltage drop in the current source. It can be seen that the higher the maximum rectified voltage, the faster the lighting time of the LED light emitting block is, so that the power factor of the LED lighting is improved. The LED lighting technology proposed in this study enables LED lighting with constant light brightness, reduced power consumption, and long lifetime.

  • Superconducting current leads are indispensible for reducing power loss when subjecting current into superconducting magnets. HTS(High-Tc superconducting) current leads are divided into two types; one is bulk type and the other is tape type. In this paper, conceptual design on the HTS current leads which adopts tape type for nuclear fusion magnets is carried out using magnetic field analysis and thermal analysis. When large current flows through superconducting current leads, strong self magnetic field is generated and applied to the superconducting tapes. This phenomenon leads to the critical current decrease of the superconducting tape. Therefore, we analyzed magnetic field distribution of current leads and found the proper arrangement with respect to the various HTS tapes. In addition to the magnetic field analysis, heat leak through the current leads was also calculated to know which HTS tape is superior than others in thermal aspect. Magnetical field analysis and calculation of heat leak are performed to design 2 kA class HTS current leads.

  • A Novel fully-differential bipolar current subtracter(FCS) and its application to current controlled current amplifier(CCCA) for high-accuracy current-mode signal processing were designed. To obtain full-differential current output, the FCS was symmetrically composed of two current follower with low current-input impedance. The CCCA to control output current by the bias current was consisted of the subtracter and a current gain amplifier(CGA) with single-ended current output.. The simulation result shows that the FCS has current-input impedance of 5 Ω and a good linearity. The CCCA has 3-dB cutoff frequency of 20 MHz for the range over bias current 100 $\mu$A to 20 mA. The power dissipation of the FCS and CCCA are 1.8 mW and 3 mW, respectively.

  • The current control methods of Y-connected 7 Phase BLDC motor are sine wave current control and square wave control. The sine wave current control method needs dq axis transformation of $7{\times}7$ matrix for current control and very complex. Also this method is not suitable for multi Phase BLDC motor of trapezoidal back emf wave. Therefore, in Y connected multi phase BLDC motor, the square wave current control methods are required. Generally, in the 3Phase BLDC system, Average current control method is used for current control. The average current is obtained that the summation of absolute value of each phase current magnitude is divided by the number of conduction phase. However, if average current control method is applied to multi-phase system, there is a problem that each phase currents are different. This problem affects unbalance of each phase torque and fluctuation of total torque. This paper proposed each phase current control method of Y connected 7Phase BLDC system. Proposed method is used for PI controller of each phase for each phase current control. This method can perfect square wave current control. Also, configuration of the method is easier than DQ axis transformation. Proposed method is verified through simulation and experiments.

  • The parameter which determines the plateau length of current-voltage curve for ion- exchange membranes was studied at various concentrations of NaCl and different flow rates. Moreover, the feasibility of the electrodialytic removal of 0.1 M NaCl solution at various current densities was tested by assessing the electrodialysis performance parameters such as salt removal efficiency, current efficiency, energy consumption and water dissociation. The diffusion boundary layer (DBL) thickness decreased with the NaCl concentration and flow rate of fled solution and it was observed that the plateau length of current-voltage curves was related with the DBL thickness. The removal efficiency and current efficiency were not affected significantly by the current densities even at the overlimiting current region indicating that most current were passed by electrolyte, and water dissociations are not responsible for the overlimiting current. Energy consumption increased when the current density supplied exceeded the limiting current density (LCD) values, because additional energy was necessary to overcome the plateau potential. Beyond the LCD values the energy consumption required to get a certain removal efficiency was not affected by the current density applied. The result suggests that it is allowed to operate electrodialysis processes at as high as possible current density unless water-splitting does not occur.
