  • This study investigated the initial behavior (flowability and setting properties) and shrinkage characteristics of lime mortar, based on the mixing ratio of hydrated lime (lump, powder) and commercial lime, which is primarily used for repairing and restoring cultural assets. The flowability showed that the optimum mixing water contents of the masonry lime mortar were 8-10% for the lump hydrated lime, 10-18% for the powdered hydrated lime, and 17-40% for the commercial hydrated lime. The results of the setting and shrinkage analysis showed that the average final setting time ratio compared to the standard of cultural asset repair was in the increasing order of commercial hydrated lime(0.4) < powder hydrated lime(5.6) < lump hydrated lime(5.7). Moreover, the average shrinkage ratio was ordered as lump hydrated lime(1.1) < powder hydrated lime(1.2) < commercial hydrated lime(3.0). The analysis of the physical and chemical characteristics of hydrated lime showed that the optimum mixing water content was reduced as the particle size of the lime increased, thus delaying the setting time and decreasing the length change rate (shrinkage). These results are expected to contribute to the prediction of the initial behavior and shrinkage characteristics of mortars using handmade and commercial lime during repair and restoration work on cultural, heritage buildings.

  • This study conducted scientific analyses on eight objects of wooden lacquerware to understand the manufacturing techniques of wooden lacquerware in the late Joseon Dynasty. The results of lacquer layer analysis with a microscope and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry revealed that most samples were composed of 1-3 lacquer layers. Moreover, a red-colored layer was found to be red ocher and cinnabar, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analysis was carried out to determine the components of the lacquer layer. The detected components were mostly lacquer and partially cashew shell nut liquid.

  • This study intendss to prepare specific support measures for cultural industry practioners and artists to respond to the development of artificial intelligence (AI) based on how they understand and accept AI. To this end, the acceptance attitude of practioners in the arts and cultural sectors toward AI technology was investigated based on the technology acceptance models and theories. The results show that, firstly, personal characteristics and service characteristics, which are influencing factors, have an effect on perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and intention to use AI services. Secondly, when there are perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness in AI services, innovative and effective personal characteristics reinforce the intention to use artificial intelligence services. It is expected that this study can be used as a reference for establishing policy measures to support cultural artists related to AI technology.

Therefore, this article presents values of using infographics for promoting Patum's culture and tourism in Phrao District, Chiang Mai, Thailand as cultural learning resources and tourist attractions. Employing a research and development approach, this study utilized three distinct instruments: (1) an interview form engaging 40 locals to uncover insights on promoting Patum village, (2) an assessment form evaluated by three arts and design experts, and (3) questionnaires distributed to 92 participants to gauge perceptions and satisfaction. The findings showcased the high quality and appropriateness of the eight infographics. Audiences derived six key values, including acquiring knowledge, fostering the promotion of Patum's culture, festivals, religions and beliefs, deriving aesthetic enjoyment, encouraging cultural tourism, contributing to the education sector, and enhancing comprehension of Patum's history. Participants expressed high satisfaction ($\bar{x}$=4.46) with the infographic use. The developed infographics are usable and valuable information to help audiences recognize Patum cultural learning resources and tourist destinations. They might be further tailored to the recognition of Patum village in the near future, affecting the area's development by increasing local people's incomes through cultural learning resources and tourism activities.

  • This study is conducted to develop new termite colony elimination system that can control termite colony much faster, and to eco-environmentally prevent termite damage occurred in wooden cultural heritage. As a result of laboratory test, we developed a component system, of which fipronil 0.001% (w/w) treated bait was used as a suitable termite colony eliminator. This system can be monitored without taking off underground, and it makes regular monitoring much more efficient. The result of field test showed that 36 termite baiting devices among 367 installed devices were damaged by foraging termites. After baiting, all of termite colonies attracted to devices were eliminated or their activity clearly decreased.
