심층면접을 통한 다문화가족의 레질리언스에 관한 연구 (Analysis of Resilience Factors in Multi-Cultural Families Using Depth Interviews)

  • This study examined the resilience factors of multi-cultural families using depth interviews. Thirty-one multi-cultural families(totaling 98 individuals) were interviewed on a range of issues, including the process of marriage, the attitude of international marriage, family relations, social networks, the process of social adaptation, and their needs for specific social services. The resilience theory was used to categorize resilience factors, multi-cultural families. Analysis of results from depth interviews identified three broad resilience factors. The first was related to for belief systems which included 'family's common goal', The second was related to family functioning systems which included 'family cohesion', 'family adaptability', and 'satisfaction for role-expectation'. The third was related to social networking which included 'satisfaction from social activities'. These resilience factors helped multi-cultural families cope with stressful events and risk situations related to every day life. Results from this study imply that multi-cultural families possess the abilities to lead a meaningful and healthy life-style regardless of obstacles such as communication difficulties, cultural differences, and societal stigma.

청소년 글로벌 리더십 교육의 문제점과 방향 논의 -글로벌 리더십 역량 및 교육 경험 분석을 중심으로 - (A Study on Global Leadership Education by Analysis of Korean Youths' Educational Experiences and Their Global Leadership Competencies)

  • 본 연구는 청소년들의 글로벌 리더십 역량과 교육 경험 내용 분석을 통해 글로벌 리더십 교육의 방향을 모색하였다. 경기도 내 중학교 3학년 학생 200명을 대상으로 하였으며, 지구적 안목 형성과 문화적 리터러시 함양의 2 개 영역을 중심으로 설문하였다. 지구적 안목 형성 영역에서는 지구적 비전과 지구적 문제해결력을, 문화적 리터러시에서는 문화다양성 인식과 인간 관계 영역을 설정하여 역량과 교육 경험을 조사-분석하였다. 설문조사 결과를 바탕으로 글로벌 리더십함양을 위한 교육 방향을 다음과 같이 제시하였다. 첫째, 글로벌 활동가로서의 끔을 갖게 하는 교육, 둘째, 지구적 문제해결 능력 함양, 셋째, 다양한 문화 인식 교육, 넷째, 문화다양성 교육의 다양화, 다섯째, 언어 등 특정 능력 위주의 교육보다는 다양한 영역에서의 교육, 여섯째, 문화다양성 인식과 지구적 안목 형성을 중요하게 다루고 있는 지리 교육을 통한 글로벌 리더십 교육 강화를 제시하였다.

Thinking Modernity Historically: Is "Alternative Modernity" the Answer?

  • This essay offers a historically based critique of the idea of "alternative modernities" that has acquired popularity in scholarly discussions over the last two decades. While significant in challenging Euro/American-centered conceptualizations of modernity, the idea of "alternative modernities" (or its twin, "multiple modernities") is open to criticism in the sense in which it has acquired currency in academic and political circles. The historical experience of Asian societies suggests that the search for "alternatives" long has been a feature of responses to the challenges of Euromodernity. But whereas "alternative" was conceived earlier in systemic terms, in its most recent version since the 1980s cultural difference has become its most important marker. Adding the adjective "alternative" to modernity has important counter-hegemonic cultural implications, calling for a new understanding of modernity. It also obscures in its fetishization of difference the entrapment of most of the "alternatives" claimed--products of the reconfigurations of global power--within the hegemonic spatial, temporal and developmentalist limits of the modernity they aspire to transcend. Culturally conceived notions of alternatives ignore the common structural context of a globalized capitalism which generates but also sets limits to difference. The seeming obsession with cultural difference, a defining feature of contemporary global modernity, distracts attention from urgent structural questions of social inequality and political injustice that have been globalized with the globalization of the regime of neoliberal capitalism. Interestingly, "the cultural turn" in the problematic of modernity since the 1980s has accompanied this turn in the global political economy during the same period. To be convincing in their claims to "alterity", arguments for "alternative modernities" need to re-articulate issues of cultural difference to their structural context of global capitalism. The goal of the discussion is to work out the implications of these political issues for "revisioning" the history and historiography of modernity.

남한에서 조선족 직장여성의 문화적응 (The Cultural Adaptation of Korean-Chinese Working Women to South Korea)

  • 본 연구는 한국사회에서 조선족 여성이 직장에서 경험하는 어려움이나 갈등 그리고 그것에 대한 대처유형에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해서 서울 및 인근지역에 거주하는 조선족 여성에서(을 대상으로) 반구조화된 질문지를 통해 한국사회에서의 적응과 관련하여 면담을 하였다(평균 연령 = 34, SD = 9.25, 평균 한국거주 = 4년, SD = 2.24). 이 내용을 질적 연구방법 중, Giorgi(1985)의 현상학적 분석방법을 통해서 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 전체적으로 225개의 응답을 도출하였다. 그리고 23개의 하위범주와 9개의 상위범주를 구성하였다. 문화적 차이와 적응상의 어려움들에는 정체성과 언어적 의사소통, 정치경제적, 관계적 및 성적 측면이 있었다. 그리고 조선적 여성이 한국사회에서 대처하는 방법 중에는 순응형, 도구형, 도피형이 있었다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 한국사회에서 직장 내 조선족 여성의 적응에 필요한 개인적 및 사회적 차원의 필요성을 논의하였다.

인류무형유산 대표목록 '매사냥' 공동등재의 특성과 의의 (The Significance of the Joint Inscription of Falconry to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity)

  • 이 글에서는 유네스코 인류무형유산 공동등재제도가 다 국가 협력을 통해 현장에서 어떠한 전략과 쟁점을 통해 실현되는지에 주목하고, 이로써 공동등재제도의 특성과 의의를 도출하였다. 논의 대상으로 한국을 포함한 18개 국가가 2010년에 인류무형유산 대표목록으로 공동등재한 '매사냥' 사례를 분석하였다. 논의 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 매사냥의 인류무형유산 공동등재 참가국들은 등재신청서 작성을 통해 무형유산보호를 위한 등재제도의 취지를 보다 명확하게 이해하게 되었음을 확인하였다. 특히 매사냥의 등재가 결과적으로 무형유산 전체의 가시성 확보에 기여해야 한다는 점을 인식하게 되었고, 이를 등재신청서에 반영한 것이 2010년 공동등재와 2012년 등재확대에 결정적으로 작용하였다. 둘째, 공동등재 추진의 특성상 참가국들은 공유유산을 매개로 협력과 소통의 기회를 가짐으로써 상호간의 문화와 민족성에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓히게 되었다. 이것은 공동등재를 통해 국가의 협력과 평화에 기여하고자 하는 유네스코 이념의 실천이라는 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 셋째, 인류무형유산 매사냥은 <무형문화유산보호협약>의 이행지침에 의거하여 지속적으로 참여국가가 확대됨으로써 공동등재에 있어 모범적 사례로 기능할 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 공동등재의 확대는 특정 무형유산의 소유자를 규정하는 문제를 두고 발생하는 국제 간 긴장을 해결하는 실마리가 될 수 있으며, 협약의 취지에 대한 당사국의 이해가 높아지고 있음을 나타낸다는 면에서도 의의가 있기 때문이다.

미래 가족학 전문가를 위한 다양성 교육: Hollinger의 모델에 근거한 상호작용적, 반영적 교수법에 관한 제언 (Diversity Education for Future Family Science Professionals: Interactive and Reflective Teaching Implications based on Hollinger's Model)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how an undergraduate family diversity course supported students to enhance undergraduate students' understanding of diversity issues and cultural competence that are necessary to work with diverse families and children as future family science professionals. We collected qualitative research data from 108 students who were enrolled in five sections of an undergraduate-level diversity course, Working with Diverse Families and Children , using nine open-ended questions. In the current study, we specifically focused on four questions in relevant to what undergraduate students learned and what they desired to learn more about diversity issues in families grounded in Hollinger's developmental model of ethical reflection. Using inductive and deductive iterative processes and triangulation, we conducted thematic analysis. Overall, our findings showed that undergraduate students understood the core concepts of diversity and cultural competence. However, they understood these issues at different stages of Hollinger's model of ethical reflection after taking the course. Most undergraduate students accomplished their cognitive and empathetic understanding of diversity and were primarily in Stages 1 and 2. We suggest interactive and reflective teaching strategies that may be effective for undergraduate students to challenge their own biases, practice ethical decision, and prepare for social actions as family science professionals.

중도입국청소년의 한국사회 문화적응과정과 유형 분석 (The analysis of cultural adaptation patterns and processes experienced by immigrated youths of multi-cultural families in Korea)

  • The purpose of this study is to offer suggestions to help immigrated youths of multicultural families become successful members of Korean society while preparing to enter schools or becoming involved in social activities. The study examined the following three issues using grounded theory: (1) the characteristics of cultural adaptation for immigrated youths of multi-cultural families; (2) their acculturation processes; and (3) their different patterns of acculturation experience. The process of acculturation involves (1) feeling timid, (2) feeling regretful and angry, (3) looking around and making an attempt, (4) feeling difficulty and feeling left out, (5) accepting reality and seeing Korea in a positive light. The core of acculturation among the immigrated youths of multicultural families is a limited living in an unfamiliar culture. Five acculturation patterns were found in the current study: (1) Someone who is actively striving for future dreams; (2) someone who adjusts himself/herself to circumstances without plans; (3) someone who passively makes an effort; (4) someone who accepts reality to continue education; and (5) someone who temporarily stays for financial reasons.

Implementing Pedagogy of Cultural Studies to Service Learning Project: Service Learning at the Korean School in the U.S.A

  • The purpose of this study was to find the existential meanings of the culturally marginalized community organization. Based on the findings, the study examined the issues related to operating the organization and found the ways of helping such organization through service learning programs. For the study, the researcher chose the Korean school of Knoxville in the USA as a service community organization. This study used a qualitative method using narrative construction in the nature of the text shapes with first-person point of views. The research findings were discussed based on the observations and participation in the organization. The study found that the Korean school plays a role as a cultural liaison connecting the Korean culture to other cultures while enabling students to critically accept their native systems, values, and customs through understanding of their native language. However, problems were found in operating the school due to the lack of skills and knowledge of the school administration. Suggestions were made and implemented to the school in order to improve the performance of the school.

Especially definitional ambiguity, unit of analysis theory of marital satisfaction and issues about measurement and cultural implication are reviewed. Also a section deals with suggestions that could be considered to develop Korean Type Marital Satisfaction Scale.
