문화적 요인의 실증적 분석과 갈등 관리에 관한 연구 (A Study on Corroboration of Cultural Factors and Organizational Dissension Management)

  • Culture is that the system of shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, and artifacts that the members of society use to cope with their world and with one another, and that are transmitted from generation to generation through learning. Members of an organization are affected by culture. And dissensions in an organization give negative effects to behavior of the members, especially to satisfaction from organization. This study is on the dissension management by considering of cultural characteristics of pilots. Cultural characteristics of pilots were surveyed and analyzed with the V5M94(values survey module94) which was developed by Hofstede. As results, the cultural indexes of the pilots were different from the national means. The indexes presented that korean pilots' cultural characteristics are low POI, high IDV, low MAS and low UAI as North European cultural characteristics. For managing the pilots group, make expansion of opportunity to take part in decision making, release or share of informations are required. And motivations, delegation, free from unnecessary interventions, understanding and forgiveness rather than disciplinary punishment, thoughtful considerations could be effectiveness. And for developing more effective management methods, management strategies of north european airlines should be studied.

A Global Strategy of a Company that Uses Culture Content as its Core Business

  • Purpose: The international business is affected by significant cultural factors that may impediment the operation and the ultimate performance of a business organization. The current study aims to investigate prior literatures works to find cross-cultural discrepancies such as the cultural distance that impacts international companies' operations and management and develop appropriate strategies for realizing high performance while overcoming these challenges. Research design, data and methodology: To find the required sources, the study employed the use of secondary data. Different search strategies were used to find the necessary materials from various sources. The data composed of an extensive review from multiple peer-reviewed journals and other existing research. Results: Based on literature analysis, the current study suggests novel seven strategies for multinational organizations. As a result, this study provides various pieces of literature to deduce meaningful information on the appropriate business strategies that a company can use to bridge the gap of the limitations of cross-cultural impacts on international businesses. Conclusion: An organization moving into a new cultural environment faces challenges including tastes and preferences, norms, language barriers, and beliefs. Organizations, therefore, have to devise the best strategies to align themselves with the prevailing cultural conditions to reap the benefits of internationalization.

사회복지 업무 종사자의 HIV/AIDS 감염인에 대한 신체적・사회적 거리감 (Social Worker's Physical・Social Distance for People Living with HIV/AIDS)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feeling of distance of social work practitioners for people living with HIV/AIDS(PLWHA) and to identify related factors. Methods: A total of 409 data were collected as convenience sampling from social welfare service providers. Independent variables were socio-demographic data, AIDS related knowledge, authoritarian personality, prejudice for minority(handicapped, women, foreigner, old aged), cultural competency. Data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, multiple regression analysis were conducted. Results: Multiple regression model was developed by integrating the significant variables from univariate analysis. Significant factors of physical distance were social prejudice against handicapped, knowledge about AIDS and critical awareness/knowledge about other culture. And significant factors of social distance were social prejudice against handicapped, knowledge about AIDS, authoritarian personality, critical awareness/knowledge about other culture. At last, we found that social prejudice against handicapped was the biggest factor for physical distance and authoritarian personality was the biggest factor for social distance of social work practitioners. Conclusions: The area of social services for PLWHA have to be expanded. Physical and social distance of professionals to provide services to PLWHA and factors affecting it is necessary to continue research. In addition, on the basis of these findings, specific training programs is need to be developed.

A Comparative Study on National Culture of SNS User : Comparison of Korea, China, and U.S.

  • Our work empirically investigates the cultural differences of Social Networking Service (SNS) users in China, Korea and U.S. We construct a survey questionnaire from existing literature and test it for reliability, validity, and model fit. Then we collect data and validate the cultural differences of SNS users in three nations. Our results show different rankings from existing literature in cultural dimensions about three nations. In terms of masculinity, we find China > U.S. > Korea, similar to Hofstede. In individualism, we find U.S. > Korea > China, different from Hofstede (U.S. > China > Korea). In power distance, it is shown that Korea > China > U.S., different from Hofstede (China > Korea > U.S.). Uncertainty avoidance is found that U.S. > Korea > China, lowered ranking of Korea from the top among three nations in Hofstede. We find that these outcomes would be useful in updating national culture of the three nations and for future research about cultural impacts on SNS adoption.

중요사찰목조문화재의 소방대책을 고려한 실태조사에 관한 연구 (A Study about Research on the Actual Condition for Fire Counterplan of Main Temple Wooden Cultural Properties)

  • 본 연구에서는 문화재청에서 지정한 국가지정 중요목조문화재 124곳 중 중요사찰목조문화재 80곳에 대하여 2008년 6월부터 12월까지 각 사찰에 대해 현지조사와 사찰을 관장하는 각 관할소방서에 대한 화재진압 매뉴얼의 자료조사를 실시하였다. 조사내용은 문화재지정구분, 소재지구분, 사찰부지면적, 사찰 내 건축면적, 지정문화재의 건축면적, 화재발생시 화재진압을 위한 소방차의 진입방향, 소방관서와의 거리, 방화관리자의 지정현황을 조사하였다. 또한, 각 사찰의 문화재보유특성에는 사찰경내의 목조건물이 중요목조문화재로 지정이 되어 있는 경우와 석탑, 불상, 탱화, 종, 석등, 부도, 현판, 주련 등이 보유문화재로 지정되어 있어 각 문화재를 유형별로 이동 운반이 가능한 소산문화재와 이동 운반이 불가능한 불소산문화재로 분류 조사하였으며, 각 문화재의 재질을 조사하여 화재발생시 신속한 초기 대응과 문화재 피해 최소화를 위한 기초 연구결과를 정리하였다.

상호 문화이해와 의사소통이 해외진출 기업의 조직성과에 미치는 영향: 인도네시아 진출 한국기업을 대상으로 (Impact of Inter-cultural Understanding and Communication on Organizational Performance: Focusing on Korean-invested Firms in Indonesia)

  • 세계화의 진전으로 기업은 다양하고 이질적인 환경에서 활동하고 있지만, 본국과 현지의 문화적 차이를 기업의 경영전략에 반영시키는 연구는 제한적이다. 본 연구는 인도네시아에 진출한 한국기업에서 근무하는 한국 주재원과 인도네시아인 간의 권력거리, 의사소통만족, 문화이해 등 3개 변수가 조직성과에 어떠한 영향을 주는지를 실증 분석하였다. 분석 결과 다음과 같은 사실이 발견되었다. 첫째, 권력거리는 기업성과에 부정적 영향을 주었다. 현지 관리자들이 한국인에 비해 권력이 불평등하다는 것을 많이 느낄수록 기업조직 성과는 부정적인 경향이 있음을 발견하였다. 둘째, 의사소통 만족도가 높을수록 조직성과가 높다는 것이 판명되었다. 셋째, 주재원과 현지인간의 상호문화이해가 높을수록 기업조직성과에 긍정적인 영향을 주었다. 즉 한 집단 내 두 이질적인 문화가 일방적이 아닌, 상호간 문화이해가 높을수록 조직성과를 높이는 결과를 가져온다는 것을 알 수 있다. 본 연구의 실증적 결과는 해외에 진출한 한국기업이 이질적 문화 환경에서 어떻게 조직성과를 이끌어 낼 것인지에 대한 새로운 관점을 제공한다. 즉, 기존의 연구들은 한국인 주재원들이 현지 문화를 이해하는 것이 중요하다고 하였지만, 본 연구는 오히려 현지인들이 한국 문화를 이해하는 것이 조직성과에 보다 큰 영향을 미친다는 결론을 도출하였다. 따라서 해외 진출 한국 기업은 한국 주재원의 교육에 투자하는 것보다는 현지인들의 교육에 투자하는 것이 더 효과적이라는 정책적 시사점을 제공한다.

한국인과 중국인의 공동창업기업 성장의도에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Growth intention of Korean and Chinese Co-Founding Startup Companies)

  • 사회는 서로 다른 특성을 갖는 개인이 모여 구성되기 때문에 그 집합 또한 서로 다른 특징을 갖는다. 더욱이 글로벌화와 타 국가의 언어습득이 활성화되면서 다른 국가로 유학을 가는 빈도수가 증가하면서 새로운 교류가 증대되고 있다. 본 연구는 그 중 창업을 하고자하는 경우를 확인하고자 하였다. 탐색적 연구를 진행하기 위해서 한국인과 중국인이 구성된 공동창업기업을 대상으로 반 구조화된 인터뷰를 통하여 보다 심도 높은 내용을 확인하고자 하였다. 인터뷰 중에 지속적으로 반복하거나 강조한 단어 등을 주요 키워드로 삼았으며 추가적인 질문을 통해서 타 키워드들을 획득했으며, 결과적으로 국가가 상이한 경우의 공동창업에서 자기수용, 문화적 거리, 기업가정신, 지식이질성, 성장의도가 매우 큰 키워드임을 확인하였다. 분석결과를 토대로 자기수용, 문화적 거리, 기업가정신을 독립변수로 설정하고 성장의도를 종속변수로 하여 연구모형을 설정하였다. 다른 국적을 가진 경우의 공동창업의 경우 다른 지식을 가짐으로 인해 더 넓은 의사결정안을 확보할 수 있다는 장점이 있으나 이 차이가 너무 상이할 경우 오히려 단점이 될 수도 있기 때문에 지식이질성은 각 관계들에 있어서 역 U자의 조절효과를 나타내는 것으로 명제를 설정하였다.

Cultural Exchange and Its Externalities on Korea-Africa Relations: How Does the Korean Wave Affect the Perception and Purchasing Behavior of African Consumers?

  • The Korean wave has become a global phenomenon whose effect has been widely studied in Asia, Europe and the US. However the presumption of cultural distance makes it appear unlikely that the Korean wave could gain traction among African consumers of cultural products. As such, a dearth of evidence exists on the effects of the wave in Africa. This paper examines the effect of the wave in East African countries employing both descriptive and Probit model analyses. The results show that, contrary to conventional beliefs, most Africans surveyed perceive value proximity with Korea through the values conveyed in Korean dramas, movies and music. Confucius values, such as filial piety, family love and respect for the elderly are the most appealing to the East African audience. Importantly, contact with Korean wave contents contributes to the respondents' disposition to form favorable attitude towards Korea. The African consumers of Korea's cultural products are equally likely to purchase other Korean commercial products. These results remotely suggest that Hallyu may be a tool for advancing Korea's soft power towards Africa and could generate positive economic externalities.

The Effect of Cultural Dimensions on Knowledge-Sharing Intentions: Evidence from Higher Education Institutions in Jordan

  • The current study aims to examine the effect of Hofstede's dimensions of culture on the intention of sharing knowledge in higher education institutions (HEIs) in Jordan. In the literature, researchers have given limited attention to such an effect. Therefore, by adopting Hofstede's framework, the current study attempts to investigate how Jordan's cultural context impacts on the intentions to share knowledge in HEIs. This study applied quantitative research methods to investigate the effect of Hofstede's cultural dimensions on knowledge-sharing intentions. In total, 307 questionnaires were collected from employees in Jordanian universities and, then, tested using descriptive and regression analytical methods. The study results show that culture dimensions influence knowledge-sharing intention and that each dimension plays a different role in enhancing this knowledge-sharing intention. More specifically, it was found that long-term orientation, collectivism and high uncertainty avoidance had a positive effect on knowledge-sharing intention, while cultural masculinity and power distance had no negative effect. Based on these results, the study makes several recommendations, the most important of which is the promotion of cultural values that encourage intention to share knowledge. Also, more qualitative research is needed to explore in depth the effective means that encourage intentions to share different types of knowledge.

  • Terrestrial Laser Scanner is widely useful in the cultural heritage documentation, acquisition of three-dimensional spatial information in the field of civil engineering and construction, and the safety monitoring for the inaccessible sites such as a few bridges and landslides. This study deals with the investigation of distance measurement and the performances assesment with waveform clouds-based(TLS).
