Socio-demographic factors are considered in addressing following research questions: why Korean college students seek luxury goods; how they recognize the effects of using luxury goods on their image management; whether or not they have purchased counterfeit luxury goods; and why they buy counterfeit goods. In order to explain the relationship between fashion and social class, the study examines various sociological theories including Erving Goffman's dramaturgical approach. The data were drawn from 1419 students from 10 universities nationwide in 2005. Chi-square analyses yields outcomes as follows: Using luxury goods works as a class symbol that gives the users the image of higher socio-economic background; use of counterfeit luxury goods and its symbolic effects in image management do not have significant relationship with socio-economic background.

  • In recent years weed flora have been changed to perennial dominance in paddy field being affected by the cropping systems and cultural practices. The perennial weeds are difficult to be controlled with annual herbicides which occupy 94% of total consumption of herbicides. The weeds competed more with rice plants in early tillering stages in machine transplanted field. For the reasonable and effective weed control, it is advisable to use single ai herbicides in hand transplanting field, but combined and mixed herbicides should be applied in machine transplanting field.

However, because it is pointed out that modern architecture, mainly represented by Western architecture nowadays, is based on the crystal of Western civilization's consumption and capitalist culture, and because it seems not absolute for the eternal sustainable development of the Earth and happiness of Humankind, it is assumed that the new conceptions of Architecture should include the cultural, ecological and environmental characteristics of the region. How does residential mobility affect our purchase behavior? This research explores the relationship between residential mobility and preference of purchase type, with psychological processes. The study primed participants with either a high or low mobility mindset to investigate the effect of mobility on consumption style in U.S. and South Korean. In addition, results also indicate that the connection between mobility and purchase type was mediated by autonomy and moderated by cultural factor. Lastly, the theoretical and practical implications are covered.

  • This study uses the concepts of mental accounting and coupling in consumption to demonstrate a systematic relationship between behavioral costs, sunk costs, coupling, and user intention to discontinue social network services (SNS) use. An analysis of 213 SNS users found that coupling and sunk costs are two major factors that influence an individual's intention to discontinue SNS use. An interesting finding of this study is that the perception of coupling is created by behavioral costs in the context of an SNS. This finding implies that the source of cost perception when perceiving coupling may differ depending on whether the product or service is traditional or web-based. These results contribute to an expansion of the theoretical discussion of individual-level discontinuance intention after adopting SNS by conceptualizing the perception of coupling.

  • In modern society, many adults seek emotional solace by reconnecting with their childhood memories through "kidult" culture, especially as single-person households increase. This trend spans fashion, collectibles, movies, animations, games, and character merchandise, with Hollywood playing a significant role in its growth during the 1980s and 1990s. Kidult culture allows adults to relieve stress, foster creativity, and strengthen social connections, enhancing their quality of life. As this culture gains mainstream acceptance, companies are producing diverse products featuring beloved characters, appealing to a wide age range. The rise in single-person households has amplified the importance of personal expression and individuality, driving the popularity of kidult culture. Companies are leveraging this trend to create innovative designs that resonate with consumer preferences. This cultural expansion promotes new design forms and aesthetics, reflecting the evolving relationship between design and consumption. Kidult culture's growth underscores its significance in contemporary consumer and design culture, offering valuable insights into modern societal trends.

  • This research is a part of a fundamental research to form the topographic map of the South Korean society's cultural capital, based on large scale research data. Its purpose is to suggest suitable questions for today's Korean society as well as to compare with previous data accumulated from other nations. For this, this research is to establish theoretical background through critical study on the extensive literature on domestic and foreign cultural capital and collect measures, questionnaires, and data used in important literature and surveys. Based on this, the major domains and levels that should be dealt in the questionnaire were chosen, literature review was conducted for each field; experts were investigated in order to develop questions more suitable for the Korean society considering each domain and level, and qualitative research on the subjects were conducted. This research as seen through the above processes, music genres and culture activities were chosen as major domains, "high/popular" level and "consumption/production" level were chosen as items, and specific items were composed considering Korea's distinct characteristics. Each of these items combine and complement the three aspects of measuring cultural capital(preference, participation, perception), which have been used incoherently in previous researches in measuring the level of possession in cultural capital. This led to developing questions such as the level of liking each item(preference), the level of participating in each item(participation), the level of luxuriousness in each item(perception), and the level of stylishness in each item(perception). This research holds significance in that it critically examines the vast amount of questionnaires used in the past for cultural capital research, provides a large framework to find Korean cultural capital by adding items considering Korea's distinct characteristics, and provides groundwork to fill in the non-Western gap in the discussion of cultural capital, which has been based on the West.
