  • Local governments have absolute authority for the policy and budget. So the backgrounds of local cultural foundation managers vary depending on whether the priorities are close relationship with upper institutions and organizational stability or whether the managers are asked to conduct autonomous management based on professionalism to boost the development of local culture. There are conflicting opinions about managers of local cultural foundations; some argue that administrators are desirable as they can not only maintain close relationship with the local government but also establish and maintain organizational stability. Others argue that cultural art experts are desirable for professional and effective management. However, the conflict and debate kept going on without clarifying objective facts how those completely different backgrounds, such as administrators and cultural art experts, make the characteristics of managers different. In this regard, this study divides the managers of The National Local Cultural Foundations Association into administrator group and cultural art expert group. By comparing and analyzing their characteristics, This study will enhance the professionalism and efficiency of each group.

  • The purpose of this thesis was to design and develop restaurant uniforms for Yeosu and Suncheon-City using local cultural resources by investigating the present situation of restaurant uniforms. The study was conducted through literature review and practical research on uniform designs. The practical research included investigating and analyzing the recent uniform designs of 60 spots in both cities and the preference of local cultural resources, finally suggesting eight restaurant uniform designs and four original samples. It was found that most workers in both cities wore shirts and pants or aprons as uniforms and also that the restaurant uniforms had many problems, such as poor designs, functionality, and the lack of local characteristics. According to these results, a design concept called 'Colorful Night Sea' was built for Yeosu using a design motive of a Yeosu Expo symbol, a Big-O Show shape, and Dolsan Gat flowers. For Suncheon-city, a design concept called 'A Rural Landscape' was built using a design motive of Nagan Eupseong and a field of reeds in Suncheon Bay. The restaurant uniform items included a top (shirt or blouse), pants, apron, and headdress in both cities. This study is meaningful as it helped improve the local image and economic situation, by proposing distinct uniforms designed by using local cultural resources.

  • In mathematics a prime number is the natural number that has no positive factors other than 1 and itself. As natural numbers greater than 1 can be factored characterized by prime numbers, identities of a culture could be understood if its cultural phenomena are analyzed through cultural prime numbers(CPN). It is not easy to resolve cultural phenomena into CPN and analyze them through CPN due to complexities of culture. Though it is difficult, however, it is not impossible. For CPN keeps relative independence in the context of history and thought. We call 2, 3 and 5 as CPN: 2 is representative of Yin and Yang theory, 3 of Three Principles theory, and 5 of Five Elements theory. We argue that the Ten Celestial Stems and the Twelve Earthly Branches, the core principles in the oriental tradition, could be factored by the CPN. Analyzing Sil-Hah Woo's arguments, we discuss that the CNP 3 achieved more qualitative valuation than the others in Korean culture.

  • In the trend toward globalization, cross-cultural teams in organizations are becoming more and more common. In particular, the influence of China and Western Europe on the global economy is getting increased. With this trend, it is important to understand cross-cultural characteristics for group decision making in managerial environments. This study aims at analyzing cross-cultural differences between China and Western Europe in light of the effect of group discussion in group decision making. An experiment simulating a decision of a car purchase was conducted. A total of 48 subjects (24 Chinese and 24 Western Europeans) assigned in decision groups were asked to judge relative importance ratios of nine factors affecting their purchase decisions using the AHP program developed for the experiment. Three dependent variables (consistency, satisfaction, and consensus) were measured. Chinese were slightly more consistent than Western Europeans in discussion-involved group decision making. In terms of decision satisfaction, Western Europeans were more satisfied with discussion-included decisions than discussion-excluded decisions. Chinese, on the contrary, did not show a significant difference. There was no significant difference between two cultures in decision consensus.
