Grains of naked barley (Baekdong cultivar) were polished, powdered and subjected to the successive extraction into free and bound liquid fractions. These were further fractionated into lipid classes and quantified by means of thin layer chromatography, column chromatography and gas-liquid chromatography. Contents of free and bound lipids in barley flour were 2.27% and 1.01%, which were decreased to 2.12% and 0.76%, respectively, after purification. Free and bound lipids were consisted of monoglycerides, diglycerides, triglycerides, free sterols, sterol esters, free fatty acids and polar lipids. Major constituents of free lipids were 56.2% triglycerides, 14.9% free fatty acids and 13.4% sterols while those of bound lipids were 73.8% polar lipids, 8.4% free fatty acids and 5.2% triglycerides. The content of non-polar lipids in free lipids was 93.6% as compared with 26.2% in bound lipids. However, phospholipids content in bound lipids was 55.5% as compared with 2.5% in free lipids, and glycolipids content in bound lipids was 19.4% as compared with 3.9% in free lipids. Major fatty acids in the free and bound lipid fractions were linoleic acid 52.1%, 54.8%, palmitic acid 24.8%, 30.0% and oleic acid 15.6%, 8.8%, respectively, showing similar patterns in both fractions. The amount of unsaturated fatty acids in free lipids was 72.8% as compared with 68.0% in bound lipids. In comparing the fatty acid composition of non-polar lipids, glycolipids and phospholipids, no difference was observed between free and bound lipid fractions while a slight difference was found among the lipid constituents.
This experiment was conducted to obtain the basic information on ability of germination at low temperature with 26 cultivars of Korea including USA cultivars and to identify the optimal sowing depth in dry-direct seeded rice. Varietal difference in germination rate and days to emergence at low temperature($13^{\circ}C$) was observed. Average germination was 81.2% and range of germination rate showed 64.3 to 94.8%. In days to germination there was varietal difference. Average days to germination was 17.4 days and those range showed 14 to 24days. Negative high correlation was observed between the ability of germination and days to germination. Considering germination and days to germination. Jakwangdo, Nagdongbyeo, Cheongmeongbyeo, Calom, Anjungbyeo, Gyehwabyeo, Daegwanbyeo, Dongjinbyeo and Seohaebyeo were selected as a adaptable cultivar. High correlation was observed among the lodging index and sowing depth, stem diameter, height of central gravity, breaking strength. Seedling emergence was increased and days to emergence was shortened at the seeding depth of 1 and 3cm. Lodging index was decreased as seeding depth was deep and so the reasonable seeding depth would be around 3cm in direct seeded rice.

This study was performed to determine quality characteristics of solar-dried persimmon for each cultivar. The physical and sensory characteristics of 4 cultivars of solar-dried persimmons (Gojongsi, Godongsi, Sangjudungsi, Koshuhyakume) were investigated. As a result, yield rate and firmness was highest in Koshuhyakume (29.5%, 9.62 N). Meanwhile, the soluble solid content (SSC) was the highest in Gojongsi ($27.3^{\circ}Brix$) and it has a significant difference between 4 cultivars (p<0.05). The water activity was range from 0.784 to 0.819 and Gojongsi (0.784) was significantly lower than others. The water contents value was the highest in Koshuhyakume (37.51%), while Sangjudungsi (35.32%) was the lowest. In case of Hunter's value, 'L', 'a' and 'b' were the highest in Sangjudungsi (34.56, 9.24, 17.07), whereas Koshuhyakume (29.17, 5.68, 13.59) has generally low value. In sensory evaluation, overall acceptability was the highest in Gojongsi and Godongsi (5.16), while Koshuhyakume (3.95) was the lowest. The results showed that the quality characteristics of dried persimmon manufactured by solar drying method have distinct difference according to cultivars.

The effect of punching treatment on bags containing sawdust medium for the stable production of fruiting bodies of Lentinula edodes 'Hwadam' was investigated. After spawn inoculation, the sawdust medium temperature and CO2 concentration reached 27.0-28.8℃ on the 23rd day of incubation, and 14.0-15.6% on the 16th day of incubation, respectively, decreasing thereafter. The O2 concentration showed an opposite pattern to the CO2 concentration. As the number of punching treatments on the medium increased during the incubation period, the lightness value decreased, and conversely, the color difference and weight loss rate increased. There was no difference in the cultivation period according to the punching treatment. As the punching treatment increased on the sawdust medium, the fruiting body yield increased; a three-time punching treatment produced the best yield with 605.7 g. Thus, proper punching treatment on a sawdust medium during the incubation period can increase the number of fruiting bodies and yield.
The cultivation of Sparassis crispa in the beginning of the 2000s in South Korea, and the cultivar 'Neowul' bred in the Chonbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Service were registered first in 2016. However, there is no manual for the cultivation of Sparassis crispa, and therefore, there remains a big difference in its harvest rate across farms. Herein, we aimed to study the primordium formation conditions of Sparassis crispa 'Neowul' according to the medium pH, medium moisture content, and inoculum volume of liquid spawn and develop a stable production technology. We found the annual yield per bottle relating to the cultivation period, harvest rate, and the weight of fruiting body to be the highest at 363.6 g in the area cultivated at pH 3.8. However, it is thought that cultivation by adjusting the pH to 3.9±1 would be necessary for stable production, considering that at pH 3.6, the yield sharply reduced to 189.5 g. Moreover, the culture period was shorter at pH 4.0 compared with that at pH3.8, and the cultivation period at pH 4.0 was the same as that at pH 3.8. No significant difference in the weight of the fruiting body at different conditions was recognized. Additionally, it is difficult to regulate the pH precisely in practical applications in the farms. It is thought that 341.8 g Sparassis crispa will be produced per bottle annually if the medium moisture content is adjusted to 65%, liquid spawn inoculum volume is equivalent to 4% of the medium volume, and the humidity in the culture room is set to below 50%.
In this study, we evaluated the changes of fruit quality indices during fruit development and ripening in Korean new pear cultivar 'Changjo', developed from a cross between 'Tama' and '81-1-27' ('Danbae' ${\times}$ 'Okusankichi') in 1995 and named in 2009, to determine appropriate harvest time and to enhance the market quality and broaden the cultivation area. The fruits of 'Changjo' pears harvested from 132 days after full bloom (DAFB) to 160 DAFB. Fruit growth and quality indices were monitored at 1 week interval by measuring fruit weight, length, diameter, firmness, and taste related quality indices. The calculated fruit fresh weight increased continuously with fruit development and reached to an average of 594g on Sep. 20 (160 DAFB). The ratio of length to diameter declines as fruit maturation progress, resulting in 0.898 for ripe fruit stage as a round oblate shape. Flesh firmness of 'Changjo' pears showed over 30N until 153 DAFB and then decreased abruptly with fruit ripening, reaching a final level of about 26.44N on 160 DAFB. Starch content of fruit sap was also decreased abruptly after 146 DAFB which decreased almost half of the fruits harvested at 139 DAFB. In parallel with the decrease of flesh firmness, ethanol insoluble solids (EIS) content decreased sharply with fruit ripens, only 50% of EIS was detected on the fruits harvested on 160 DAFB when compared to that of the fruits harvested on 139 DAFB (Aug. 30). The maximum value of soluble solids contents was observed in the fruits harvested on 153 DAFB, resulting in $14.2^{\circ}Brix$. The changes of skin color difference $a^*$ which means loss of green color occurred only after 139 DAFB, coincide with the decrease of SPAD value of the fruit skin. The sugars of the 80% ethanol soluble fraction consisted mainly of fructose, sorbitol, glucose and sucrose, also increased during maturation and ripening. Fructose and sucrose contents were larger than those of glucose and sorbitol in flesh tissues. These results were explained that stored starch is converted to soluble sugars during fruit maturation, mainly in fructose and sucrose increasing the sweetness of this cultivar. Total polyphenols were increased up to middle of fruit maturation (146 DAFB) and then decreased continuously until the end of fruit maturation. Consequently, our results suggested that the commercial harvest time of 'Changjo' pears should not be passed 153 DAFB and late harvest of this cultivar would not good for quality maintenance during shelf-life. As a result of the post-harvest low-temperature acclimation experiment during the short-term transportation period, fruits harvested at 146 DAFB tended to maintain higher firmness after 14 days of simulated marketing at $25^{\circ}C$ compared to fruits harvested at 153 DAFB regardless of temperature set. And, the slower the rate of decrease to the final transport temperature of $5^{\circ}C$, the higher the incidence of internal browning and ethylene production. Therefore, in order to suppress the physiological disorder and to maintain the fruit quality when exporting to Southeast Asia in the 'Chanjo' pears, it is desirable to lower the temperature of the fruits within a short time after harvest and to set the harvest time before 146 days after full bloom.

This experiment was carried out to determine harvest date and cultivar effects on growth characteristics, forage yield and quality of spring sown oats at the middle mountain(450m) area at the forage experimental field, Namweon Branch, National Livestock Research Institute. The experiment was arranged in a split plot design with three replication. The main plot consisted of the harvest date(9 June, 18 June). The subplots consisted of different maturities of oat cultivars such as Cayuse, Swan, Foothill, Cashel, Martlock and Winjardie. The results obtained are summarized as follows; A period of 50 days was required to be first headed from seeding with early maturity oats(Swan), but that of 77 days was required with late maturity(Foothill). The dry matter content of early maturity(Swan) oats at 9 June and 18 June were 24.01% and 35.69%, but that of late maturity cultivars(Foothill) were 14.02% and 22.84%. The fresh yield of late maturity(Foothill) oats at 9 June and 18 June were 62,666kg and 59,666kg, but that of early maturity(Cashel) were 54,222kg and 45,493kg(P<0.05). The dry yield of early maturity (Cashel) oats at 9 June was 10,169kg, but that of early maturity (Martlock) was 6,272kg. But no significant difference was found among cultivars at June 18. Crude protein content of oats were decreased from 14.0% to 11.1% as the growing stage progressed, ADF, NDF and CF contents were increased. And in vitro dry matter digestibility was decreased as the harvest date delayed. The present experiment indicated that spring sown oats(Foothill) can be successfully produced as fresh forage by seeding in middle March and harvesting in 10 and 20 June at the middle mountain (450m) area.

This study was conducted to evaluate the dry matter yield and forage quality of Kenaf in relation to planting density and growing days in Cheorwon area from 20 May to 12 September in 2005. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replications. The main plots consisted of planting density and growing days with three cultivars of Kenaf as sub-plots; Bowling, Everglade and Tainung. The results obtained were summarized as follows. The dry matter yield increased until 92 days after planting at $10{\times}10cm^2$ planting density, but decreased after the day. The dry matter yield increased with maturity in all three cultivars, especially Dowling showed the highest dry matter yield at each harvest time. The Crude Protein (CP) contents of all three cultivars decreased with maturity. Especially, the decrease in the CP contents was greater in the early stage than in the late stage. The planting density did not affect the CP contents, even though they are little higher in $10{\times}20cm^2$ planting density. The higher CP contents were obseued in Dowling, which is not significant. No difference in the Neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and Acid detergent fiber (ADF) contents was observed in the planting density and cultivar, although the increasing tendency was found with maturity. These results suggest that Kenaf can be a good potential forage crop in the northern area of Korea, especially Dowling showed the great dry matter yield and forage quality when harvested on Day 104 at $10{\times}20cm^2$ planting density.
The second leaves from 30 days old seedlings of two rice cultivars which were selected as tolerant (cv. Chokoto) and susceptible (cv. Weld pally) cultivar were soaked in the concentration of $10^{-6}$, $10^{-5}$, $10^{-4}$ and $10^{-3}M$ of oxyfluorfen for 10, 15 and 22hrs and anatomical characteristics were abserved. Dipping to the solutions were carried out either directly to the attached leaves or to the seperated leaves. Development of any symptoms in epidermis, bundle sheath, mesophyll cells and bulliform cells were microscopically inspected. Both cultivars showed reductionin leaf thickness, but the susceptible ones was more sensitive than the tolerant. The degradation and disappearance of epidermal cell layer, breakage of bundle sheath cells, shrinkage of mesophyll cells and disappearance of bulliform cells were general response as affected by oxyfluorfen treatment. The susceptible cultivars showed such responses at the concentration of $10^{-5}M$ for 10 hrs while tolerant ones $10^{-3}M$, for 10 hrs. Those treatments were more effective in seperated leaves than in attached ones. The epicuticular wax layer of leaves treated as above for 20 hrs was inspected by SEM. Weld pally, the susceptible cultivar (Weld pally) showed rapid cleavage of wax layer under $10^{-5}M$ concentration while the tolerant (Chokoto) showed only minor damage on wax layer at the concentration of $10^{-3}M$.
This study was carried out to identify the effect of seed gathering time and after-ripening on Paeonia lactiflora Pall (PL) seed emergence, and to establish optimal seed gathering time and sowing time. We used two local cultivar of PL ; Punggi and Uisung. Seeds were gathered 6 times from 5th July to 25th August in 1992. The seeds of Punggi local cultivar were planted by the planting density of $10\;{\times}\;15cm$ after treatment of 7 ways ; without after-ripening, with after-ripening for 10, 20, 30 days without or with capsule. We investigated the change of 100 grains weight of PL seed by the passage of time and emergence rate after treatment. The seed weight of Punggi was heavier than that of Uisung and the seed weight was maximzed at 25th July both of the two, and then decreased by the passage of time. The seed emergence rate of Punggi gathered at 5th July was showed 7.8% and the seed emergence of Uisung was later 10 days than that of Punggi. The maximum emergence rate of two local cultivars was the highest in gathering the seeds on the 15th of August. In gathering the seeds without and with capsule, the emergence rate of seeds sowed with after-ripening was higher than that of seeds sowed immediately after gathering the seeds without after-ripening when the seeds gathered between 5th July and 5th August. In after-ripening with out and with capsule, the emergence rate of 10 days after-ripening seeds was less than that of 20 and 30 days after-ripening seeds after the seeds gathered on the 5th and 15th of July. Difference of the emergence rate of seeds by after-ripening time did not show when the seeds gathered after 25th July.
