EMBODIMENT OF THE CORRECT DEPTH-CUE IN STEREOSCOPY

  • Pin-hole model has been widely used as a robust tool for easily understanding how to obtain a stereo image and how to present the depth-cue to an observer in stereoscopy. However, most of the processes to analyze depth cue in stereoscopy are performed that a stereo image is taken by camera model practically but depth cue of the image is analyzed by pin-hole model. Therefore, the result of depth cues by the process to be uncorrected. The reason of the uncorrected depth cue is led to the image distances of camera model due to variable focused object distances, and it makes a depth distortion. In this paper, we tried to show the contradiction such as occurring depth distortion in the process which the pin-hole model is used to analyze depth cue despite practical camera model is used in stereoscopy, and we presents the method to overcome the contradiction.

The Effect of Congruency and Familiarity of Background Music in TV Advertising on the Music's Role as a Retrieval Cue

  • Assuming that not all background music in advertising function as effective retrieval cues for the advertised messages, this study proposes that we should be able to distinguish the retrieval cue effect of music from the simple ad exposure effect. This study tries to identify which specific characteristics of music are related to the retrieval cue effect. Our experiment focuses on congruency and familiarity of music as key characteristics of music which affect the effectiveness of the music's role as a retrieval cue for the advertised messages. We used four groups of subjects to test the retrieval cue effect of the background music. Each group was exposed to one of the four different types of background music and was again sub-divided into an experimental and a control group (i.e., a total of eight independent sub-groups were included in the experiment.) The first two sub-groups were exposed to the experimental advertisement with the background music of high congruency and high familiarity. After the ad exposure, the background music was provided as a retrieval cue to only one of the two sub-groups. Comparison of the memory performance between the two sub-groups will reveal the net retrieval cue effect of the music of high congruency and high familiarity. Similarly, another two sub-groups watched the same ad but with the background music of high congruency and low familiarity. Also the same ad but with the music of low congruency/ high familiarity was shown to another two sub-groups and that of low congruency and low familiarity music was to another two. Among the two sub-groups with the same music, only one group had the music cue at the memory tasks. One hundred and seventy four undergraduate students at the college of one of authors in Asia participated in the study. Their ages ranged from 18 to 24 with a median of 20. The sample was composed of 51.7 percent male subjects. They were randomly assigned to each of the eight sub-group. The results show that the music highly congruent with the advertised message facilitates the message retrieval, while the low congruency music cue does not. It was also found that the low familiarity music cue improves memory performance only when the music is perceived as congruent with the advertised message. From a theoretical and practical perspective, this study provides boundary conditions for effective retrieval and suggests that the congruent music specifically created for the ad is a more effective retrieval cue than other types of music cues.

기업의 스마트폰 메시지에 대한 고객 신뢰도에 관한 연구: 메시지 정교화 모델을 중심으로 (The Effect of Message Completeness and Leakage Cues on the Credibility of Mobile Promotion Messages )

  • 지금까지 스마트폰 문자 메시지와 관련한 연구는 보안 및 프라이버시 우려 측면에서 제한적으로 이루어져 왔다. 그러나 기업들이 소비자를 대상으로 프로모션 메시지를 전달할 때 어떤 메시지가 효과적인지 규명하는 시도는 많지 않았다. 본 연구는 스마트폰의 메시지 신뢰도를 저하하는 신호를 정교화 가능성 모델에 적용하여 분석하였다. 메시지의 신호는 내용 상의 신호와 수신자가 세심한 검토 없이 의사결정을 하도록 하는 누설 신호(맞춤법 및 특수문자, 축약 링크, 신뢰할 수 없는 발신자 등)로 나눌 수 있다. 이 중 내용 상의 신호에 조절효과를 주는 요소는 맥락화로 메시지가 자신과 상관있다고 느끼는 정도(관여도)이다. 메시지의 신호가 스마트폰 사용자의 메시지 신뢰도에 주는 영향을 검증하기 위해 모바일에서 쿠폰발행 메시지를 받는 시나리오를 바탕으로 166명 대상의 서베이 실험을 진행하였다. 분석 결과, 누설 신호는 유의한 수준으로 신뢰도에 부정적 영향을 주었고, 내용 상의 결함은 근소한 수준에서 부정적 영향을 주었다. 주목할 점은 고맥락화 메시지에 내용 상의 결함이 있으면 유의한 수준으로 신뢰도에 부정적 영향을 주었으나, 저맥락화된 메시지의 경우에는 신뢰도에 영향을 주지 않았으며, 메시지에 누설 신호가 있으면 맥락화 정도와 상관없이 신뢰도가 저하되었다는 것이다. 이는 기업들이 모바일을 통한 프로모션을 진행할 때 관여도가 높은 상품을 골라 고객 맞춤형으로 문자 메시지를 작성하고, 메시지에는 내용 상의 결함이 없도록 하는 것이 중요하다는 시사점을 제공한다.

  • 근래에 와서 심볼 마크는 조형성에 있어서 그 어느 때보다 차별화 되고, 개성적이며, 다양한 양상으로 발전하고 있다. 이러한 양상 중의 하나로서 보여지는 것이 공간지각 단서에 의한 심볼 마크 디자인이다. 본 연구에서는 Coren 등의 공간지각 단서를 중심으로 심볼 마크에 표현된 사례를 분석, 고찰하고, 공간지각 단서에 의한 심볼 마크 디자인이 갖는 의의를 살펴보았다.

Effects of Step Length Change on Kinetic Characteristics While Stepping Over an Obstacle From a Position of Quiet Stance in Young and Elderly Adults: A Preliminary Study

  • The aim of the present study was to investigate age-related differences in stepping behavior in response to sensory perturbations of postural balance. The participants for this study were 2 healthy elderly adults (mean age=76.0) and 2 younger adults (mean age=25.5). Subjects were asked to step over a 10 cm high obstacle at self-paced speed with the right limb to land on the primary target (normal step length) that is 10 cm in diameter. However, if, during movement, the light was illuminated, then the subject had to step on the secondary target (long step length). It was planned that the onset of the light would be prior to peak Fx of swing limb, between swing peak Fx and swing toe-off, and after swing toe-off. In the younger adults these secondary visual cues were provided at mean times of 240 ms (standard deviation (SD)=11), 402 ms (SD=13), and 476 ms (SD=88) following the movement onset. Corresponding mean times for the healthy elderly were 150 ms (SD=67), 352 ms (SD=39), and 562 ms (SD=115). Results showed great changes in both group and visual cue condition in Fx ground reaction forces and temporal events following the swing toe-off. Swing limb acceleration force (Fx) and stance peak Fx1 was much greater in the young adults compared to the older adults. Both young and older adults increased stance peak Fx2 in the visual cue condition compared to normal stepping. There was no difference in stance peak Fx2 between the visual cue conditions in both groups. Similarly, the time to stance peak Fx2 was much longer for the visual cue condition than for the normal stepping. It was not different between the visual cue conditions in the young adults, but in the elderly mid and late cue was much greater than early cue. In addition, time to stance peak Fx2 and swing and stance time were much longer in the older adults compared to the young adults for the visual cue conditions. These results suggest that unlike young adults, elderly adults did not flexibly modify their responses to unexpected changes in step length while stepping over obstacles.

정서추론 과제에서 3세 및 5세 유아의 인지적 단서활용 - 단서의 종류 및 상황-정서 일치 여부를 중심으로 - (The Cognitive Cuing of 3- and 5-year-old Children in Emotional Inference Task - According to Cue Type, and Situation-emotion Fit -)

  • An emotion inference task was used to investigate children's cognitive cuing by age, cue type, and situation-emotion fit. Subjects were 41 of 3-, and 5-year-old children from two different day-care centers in Seoul and Kyonggi province. Each child was individually interviewed with pictorial tasks. 5-year-old children demonstrated more cuing, thinking, and application responses than 3-year-old children. Particularly, they showed more situation and thinking responses in situation-emotion match than in situation-emotion mismatch. 3-year-old children showed more past-oriented responses than 5-year-old children. In the interpersonal cue story, there were more situation, past-oriented and thinking responses than in the interobjective ones. The interpersonal cue story produced more situation responses in situation-emotion match than in situation-emotion mismatch.

Two Independent mechanisms for perception of motion in depth

  • Two different binocular cues are known for detecting motion in depth. One is disparity change in time and the other is inter-ocular velocity difference. Shioiri, Saisho and Yaguchi (1999) demon-strated that motion in depth can be seen based solely on inter-ocular velocity differences as well as on the disparity change in time. They used conditions in which either cue was minimized and measured performance based on motion in depth, finding better performance than chance level when either velocity cue or the disparity cue was almost isolated. However, there may have been influences from the cue minimized in each condition, since it was practically impossible to isolate perfectly either cue. I re-analyzed their data to examine whether the performance in the condition with disparity change and that in the condition with inter-ocular velocity difference were correlated. The result showed the correlation is very low and therefore, we can conclude that the visual system has two different mechanisms for motion in depth.

저비트율 멀티채널 오디오 부호화 (Low-bitrate Multichannel Audio Coding)

  • 멀티채널 오디오 컨텐츠에 대한 사용자의 욕구가 증가하고 있는 가운데 서비스를 위한 저비트율 멀티채널 오디오 부호화 기술에 대한 표준화가 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 협대역폭 채널환경에 적합한 고압축율의 멀티채널 오디오 부호화 기술인 음원위치단서 부호화 기술(Sound Source Location Cue Coding; SSLCC)을 제안하고, SSLCC가 기존 BCC (Binaural Cue Coding)의 압축 성능을 향상시키기 위하여 단서로 이용한 VSLI (Virtual Source Location Information)를 설명한다. 또한 객관적 평가로 기존의 BCC 시스템과의 평균 비트율을 비교하고, MUSHRA (Multi-Stimulus test with Hidden Reference and Anchor) 방법을 이용한 주관 청취 평가를 수행하여 제안된 SSLCC 부호화 기법의 우수성을 확인하였다.

손 근접성이 단서양상에 따라 과제전환 수행에 미치는 효과 (Hand Proximity Effect on Task Switching Performance Through Cue Modality)

  • 본 연구는 손과 가까운 시각 정보의 처리적 특성이 과제전환에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 수행되었다. 최근 연구들은 손과 가깝게 제시된 정보에 대한 인지통제가 향상됨을 보고하고 있다. 이러한 인지통제 향상효과를 손 근접성과 주의의 관계를 통해 규명하고자 두 번의 실험을 실시하였다. 그 결과 과제전환 수행에서 단서와 목표자극의 감각양상에 따라 손 근접성의 효과가 달라짐을 관찰할 수 있었다. 첫 번째 실험에서 손에 근접한 자극에 대한 전환비용의 감소가 관찰되었다. 선행 연구들에서 전환비용의 감소원인으로 지목되었던 특징결합 문제를 제외시켰을 경우에도 동일한 결과가 관찰되었다. 즉, 손 근접성이 전환비용을 감소시켰음을 검증할 수 있었다. 두 번째 실험에서는 손 근접성과 감각양상의 상호작용이 전환비용에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 수행되었다. 과제전환에서 목표자극은 시각으로 단서는 시각 또는 청각으로 제시하였고, 단서의 준비성 효과를 관찰하기 위해 단서-목표자극 간격을 조변하였다. 연구 결과 손에 근접한 시각 단서는 과제 준비 시간을 단축시켜 전환비용을 감소시켰으나, 청각 단서의 경우 손에 근접할 때 오히려 과제 준비 시간이 더 오래 걸렸다. 시각 단서의 결과는 손에 근접한 시각 정보에 대한 신속한 주의정향으로 인한 이득으로 설명될 수 있다. 반면에 청각 단서에서 나타난 손실은 청각 단서와 시각 자극 간의 감각 간 전환이 손 근접성의 주의 범위 고정 효과로 인해 방해된 결과로 해석될 수 있다. 마지막으로 손 근접성의 주의효과로 인해 달라지는 전환비용에 대해 논의하였다.

트레드밀 측방보행 훈련 동안 시각차단이 뇌졸중 환자의 균형 및 보행에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Visual Cue Deprivation During Sideways Treadmill Training on Balance and Walking in Stroke Patients)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of visual cue deprivation during sideways treadmill training in individuals with stroke. Twenty-eight stroke patients were divided into two groups, and each group participated in a sideways treadmill training session for 20 minutes, three times per week for 4 weeks. The eyes close group (15 subjects) performed this treadmill training with visual cue deprivation, while the eyes open group (13 subjects) performed it without visual cue deprivation. Gait function was measured in both groups before and after the training sessions with the Biodex Gait Trainer 2, which determined walking speed, distance, step length, and time on each foot. Balance was measured before and after each training period in both groups using the Five-Times Sit-to-Stand Test (FTSST), the Timed Up and Go test (TUG), and the seven-item Berg Balance Scale-3P (7-item BBS-3P). The eyes close group showed significantly improved gait function, walking speed, distance, step length, and time on each foot after training (p<.05). The eyes close group showed improved balance ability, FTSST, TUG, and 7-item BBS-3P test after training (p<.05). The findings indicated that sideways treadmill training with visual cue deprivation positively affects gait ability of stroke patients. Therefore, sideways treadmill training with visual cue deprivation may be useful for the recovery of gait ability of stroke patients.
