Japanese red pine (Pinus densiflora S. et. Z.) decayed by brown-rot fungi Tyromyces palustris and Gloeophyllum trabeum were subjected to X-ray diffraction analysis and infrared spectral examinations. Pine woods decayed by T. palustris showed the increase of relative crystallinity in the initial stage of degradation. When the weight loss was above 30%, then the crystallinity went down slowly. In contrast, the wood samples degraded by G. trabeum showed the decrease of crystallinity from the beginning stage of decay. The changes of crystallinity in brown-rotted woods suggested that the degradation rate of crystalline cellulose was varied with the brown rot fungal species. X-ray diffraction analyses also indicated that crystalline cellulose was much more slowly broken down than the amorphous one. The most notable difference in the IR spectra of the brown-rotted wood samples was that the adsorption band centered at 1,730$cm^{-1}$ was significantly diminished in the decayed wood. indicating the degradation of hemicellulose by brown-rot fungi. However, no marked changes of intensities at 1,000, 1,060 and 1,040$cm^{-1}$ were observed in the brown rotted wood samples, suggesting that crystal line cellulose was resistant against the attack by brown rot fungi.

Factors affecting gelatinization temperature of rice starches from different varieties were investigated. Birefringence end-point temperature(BEPT), amylose content, granule size distribution and degree of crystallinity of rice starches showed the significant varietal differences at ${\alpha}\;=0.01$. Susceptibility of the granule to gelatininzation was dependent mainly on the degree of crystallinity, as indicated by the significant positive correlation between BEPT and the relative crystallinity(r=0.67, p<0.01). However, granule size distribution did not affect the GT(gelatinization temperature) range, nor did amylose electron microscopy (SEM). SEM also confirmed that there is no relationship between the size and the shape and the amylose content of the rice starch.
The relationship between the variation of crystallinity and the resultant self-bonding strength of PEEK was examined by using DSC in conjunction with the shear test. DSC measurement of the crystallinity produced at different bonding conditions demonstrated that even though PEEK specimens contain the same amount of crystallinity, the resultant self-bonding strength is sensitively dependent on bonding history. It also showed that all crystallization during the bending process occurs only in the healing and annealing stage and no additional crystallization occurs in the cooling stage.

Polypropylene films reinforced with multi-walled carbon nanotubes and exfoliated graphite nanoplatelets were fabricated by extrusion, and the effects of filler type and take-up speed on the mechanical properties and microstructure of composite films were investigated. Differential scanning calorimetry revealed that the addition of carbon nanomaterials resulted in increased degree of crystallinity. However, increasing the take-up speed reduced the degree of crystallinity, which indicates that tension-induced orientations of polymer chains and carbon nanomaterials and the loss of degree of crystallinity due to rapid cooling at high take-up speeds act as competing mechanisms. These observations were in good agreement with tensile properties, which are governed by the degree of crystallinity, where the C-grade exfoliated graphite nanoplatelet with a surface area of $750m^2/g$ showed the greatest reinforcing effect among all types of carbon nanomaterials used. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to observe the carbon nanomaterial dispersion and orientation, respectively.
An effect of low-temperature long-term thermal degradation on a degree of crystallinity of a low density polyethylene (LDPE) was investigated by using $^1H$ solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (SSNMR). Firstly, the long-term thermal treatment makes a color of LDPE from white to pale yellow which is indicative of thermal oxidation. Secondly, it makes the $^{1}H$ NMR spin-spin and spin-lattice relaxation times ($T_1$) to be long. Lastly, the degree of crystallinity of the semicrystalline aged-LDPE also decreases with thermal treatment. Above all, the $T_1$ increase is envisaged to be due to either a decrease of the amorphous regions governing overall spin-lattice relaxation mechanism in LDPEs or a dynamically restricted motion of specific molecular motions by intermolecular hydrogen bonding or crosslinking. However, since the decrease of crystallinity implies an increase of amorphous regions by the thermal treatment, the former case is contrast to our results. Accordingly, we concluded that the latter effect is responsible for the $T_1$ increase.

In this work, we have investigated the change of surface roughness, grain size and crystallinity of Poly-$Si_{1-x}Ge_x$ films deposited with the variation of deposition parameters (temperature, pressure, Ge composition ) and the effect of these results on the electrical resistivity. The crystallinity and the grain size were increased with increasing deposition temperature and Ge composition. Also, the electrical resistivity was decreased by enhanced grain size, while the surface roughness was increased. With increasing deposition pressure, the crystallinity was increased, but the grain size and the cluster size were decreased, by which the surface roughness was decreased. And the electrical resistivity was increased. Based on the effect of the crystallinity and the grain size on the electrical resistivity, it was founded that the electrical resistivity was depend on the grain size rather than the crystallinity.
Ground CS-891 (N-[1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-methylethyl]-3-oxo-4-aza-5a-androst-1-ene-$17{\beta}$-carboxamide) of poorly water soluble drug was obtained using a Heiko Seisakusho model TI-100 vibration mill, and samples with different crystallinity were prepared at mixture ratios of 10:0, 7:3, 5:5, 3:7 and 0:10 (intact;ground CS-891). Physicochemical characterizations were obtained using qualitative and quantitative X-ray diffractometry, different scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Quantasorb surface area analyzer, and controlled atmosphere microbalance. With increase of amorphous CS-891 in mixture ratios, the intensities of X-ray diffraction peaks of crystalline CS-891 were decreased, whereas surface area, water absorption, and exothermic peaks in DSC were increased. The apparent solubility of ground CS-891 was $4.4\;{\mu}g/ml$ and the solubility of intact CS-891 was $3.1\;{\mu}g/ml$ at $37{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The apparent precipitation rates of CS-891 in a supersaturated solution during the solubility test were increased with an increase of amorphous CS-891, and a crystalline form of CS-891 transformed from amorphous CS-891 after the solubility test was found by X-ray diffraction analysis, DSC and SEM. The dissolution profiles of CS-891 with different crystallinity at $37{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ by the USP paddle method were investigated, and the apparent dissolution rate constant of ground CS-891 was about 5.9-fold higher than that of intact CS-891. A linear relationships between the crystallinity of CS-891 and the apparent dissolution rate constant (r>0.96) were obtained.
The thermal properties and crystallization behaviors of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) were investigated by controlling the annealing conditions of PET sample, such as relative humidity, temperature, and time. The variations of moisture content, glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and cold crystallization temperature ($T_{\propto}$) were examined after annealing the PET sample. Subsequently crystallization process was performed with the annealed PET specimen, and then the degree of crystallinity and heat distortion temperature (HDT) of variously crystallized PET specimen were examined. Residual stress relaxation in the injection molded PET sample after annealing was also observed through polarized films. Moisture content in the PET specimen increased up to 6000 ppm with increasing the relative humidity, temperature, and time of annealing. $T_g$ and $T_{\propto}$ of the annealed PET specimen decreased with increasing moisture content. The degree of crystallinity increased as increasing moisture content in the PET specimen. However for same moisture content, the degree of crystallinity varied with annealing conditions. The relaxations of residual stress in the PET sample differed from annealing conditions, and the maximum degree of crystallinity increased with decreasing residual stress in the PET sample.
The structure development of drawn poly(trimethylene terephthalate) PTT as a function of draw down ratio and drawing temperature was studied. The special effort was made to find out the effect of structural development on thermal properties and crystallinity in drawn PTT. The changes in shrinkage ratio and mechanical properties were understood base on the level of crystallinity and orientation of the drawn PTT. The stress induced crystallization caused the increase in glass transition temperature and the decrease in cold crystallization temperature and enthalpy. The crystallinity and orientation were dependent upon the level of applied stress level as well as chain flexibility at high drawing temperature. The drawing resulted in the increase of shrinkage ratio but it was minimized by increasing of crystallinity. The development of orientation resulted in increasing modulus and tensile strength while decreasing elongation at break.
To observe the formation of defects at the interface between an oxide semiconductor and $SiO_2$, ZnO was prepared on $SiO_2$ with various oxygen gas flow rates by RF magnetron sputtering deposition. The crystallinity of ZnO depends on the characteristic of the surface of the substrate. The crystallinity of ZnO on a Si wafer increased due to the activation of ionic interactions after an annealing process, whereas that of ZnO on $SiO_2$ changed due to the various types of defects which had formed as a result of the deposition conditions and the annealing process. To observe the chemical shift to understand of defect deformations at the interface between the ZnO and $SiO_2$, the O 1s electron spectra were convoluted into three sub-peaks by a Gaussian fitting. The O 1s electron spectra consisted of three peaks as metal oxygen (at 530.5 eV), $O^{2-}$ ions in an oxygen-deficient region (at 531.66 eV) and OH bonding (at 532.5 eV). In view of the crystallinity from the peak (103) in the XRD pattern, the metal oxygen increased with a decrease in the crystallinity. However, the low FWHM (full width at half maximum) at the (103) plane caused by the high crystallinity depended on the increment of the oxygen vacancies at 531.66 eV due to the generation of $O^{2-}$ ions in the oxygen-deficient region formed by thermal activation energy.
