  • The properties of scid-resistance to boiling HCl, thermal expansion coefficient and softening temperature of mother glass and glass-ceramic of LAS systems were investigated at the contents of SiO2 varing from 57 to 67wt%. The nucleation and growth of crystalline phase of LAS compositions were carried out at 50$0^{\circ}C$ and $700^{\circ}C$. The crystalline phase jconsists of lithium alumino silicate, lithum meta silicate, lithium disilicate, $\alpha$-crystobalite and $\alpha$-quartz. Lithium alumino silicate(virgilite) is the major crystalline phase in the glass ceramics. The degree of acid resistant property was increased in proportion with the silica content for both glass and ceramics. Glass-ceramic gives lower acid-resistance and thermal expansion coefficient while softening temperature shows higher for glass-ceramic than for mother glass.

  • Transient liquid phase processing was investigated to decrease processing temperatures while maintaining useful piezoelectric properties in the lead zirconate titanate (PZT) system. Niobium oxide$(Nb_2O_5)$ modified crystalline PZT (PZTN) powder was combined with lead silicate $(PS; PbO-SiO_2)$ glass powder and crystalline titania, zirconia, and niobia. Firing above the melting temperature of the lead silicate $(PS; Tm \risingdotseq\; 714^{\circk}C)$ resulted in liquid phase densification of the PZTN followed by dissolution of the titania, zirconia, and niobia into the liquid phase, and crystallization of additional PZTN. The addition of crystalline titania, zirconia, and niobia to react with the lead oxide from the lead silicate phase resulted in an increase in the dielectric and Piezoelectric properties.

  • The purpose of this paper is to establish the optimum fabricating condition of specimens using silk screen printing, and to develop humidity sensor which has good humidity sensing properties. The specimens are fabricated under the condition of 90[wt%] $SnO_2$-10[wt%] $TiO_2$, and their microstructure, crystalline structure, humidity sensing properties are examined. From the microstructure analyses, porosity is best at 700[$^{\circ}C$]. From the crystalline structure analyses, intensity of peak becomes strong according to increasing heat treatment temperature. From the humidity sensing properties analyses, an overall results of capacitance changes, linearity and hysteresis for the specimens is best at 600[$^{\circ}C$] and 700[$^{\circ}C$]. Capacitance of specimens increases according to decreasing measurement frequency, and to increasing relative humidity.

  • We investigated the stability of all-trans-retinol on the liquid crystalline O/W emulsion composed of mainly alkyl polyglycerine, alkyl polyglucose and glycerine, and compared the activity of all-trans-retinol in the various forms of liquid crystal. Under certain conditions, novel liquid crystalline gel was formed around oil droplets, and layers of this liquid crystalline gel were very wide and rigid. (SWLC; Super Wide Liquid Crystal) SWLC was very helpful to stabilize retinol in O/W emulsion. After storage at 45 C for 4 weeks, all-trans-retinol in O/W emulsion composed of SWLC retained above 85% of the activity upon HPLC analysis, whereas those within no liquid crystalline emulsion gave 47% and normal liquid crystalline emulsion composed of fatty alcohols gave 40 60%. Retinol in oil phase is nealy insoluble in pure water, but in cosmetic emulsion systems can be slightly solubilized into water because emulsifiers and polyols in emulsion systems function as solubilizers. In this case, water in outer phase acts as a media for oxygen transporation$.$and thus destabilizes retinol. As a result, retinol in O/W emulsion has a tendency to become unstable. SWLC surrounding oil droplet which contains retinol is wide and rigid, therefore reduces contact between inner phase and outer phase To make SWLC, properties of emulsifiers are very important phase transition temperature should be high, and the structure of surfactants should be bulky, and their ratio should be suitable to make rigid and wide liquid crystalline gel layer in order to reduce contact between retinol in inner phase and water in outer phase.

  • Microstructure-dependent changes in the crystalline properties of poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA) was investigated using various EVAs at different VA contents via X-ray diffraction (XRD). The parameters analyzed herein were percentage crystallinity (Xc), interplanar crystal spacing (dhkl), crystal stack size (Dhkl), and the number of crystal plane piles (Nhkl). The Xcs of [110] and [200] crystals were 21.0-4.1 and 6.7-1.4%, respectively, and they decreased by approximately 2.3 and 0.7% for every mol% of the VA content, respectively. The Xc ratios of the [110] and [200] crystals were approximately 3. The d110s and d200s values were 0.41-0.42 and 0.37-0.38 nm, respectively. The D110s and D200s values were 9.56 -21.92 and 7.00-16.42 nm, respectively. The dhkls increased with an increase in the VA content, whereas the Dhkls decreased. The N110s and N200s were 22.7-51.3 and 18.3-43.2, respectively, and they decreased by increasing the VA content. EVA with the same VA content showed different crystalline properties as per the suppliers, and some EVAs deviated from the average trends. This could be explained by the difference in their microstructures such as the sizes and distribution uniformity of the ethylene sequences in EVA chains.

  • The structure development and dynamic properties of fibers produced by high-speed spinning of P(EN-ET) random copolymers were investigated. The as-spun fibers were found to remain amorphous up to the spinning speed of 1500 m/min, and subsequent increases in speed resulted in the crystalline domains containing primarily $\alpha$ crystalline modification of PEN. The f modification was not found up to spinning speeds of 4500 m/min. On the other hand, annealing of constrained fibers spun at the 2100 m/min at 180,200, and 240^{\circ}C$ exhibited $\beta$-form crystalline structure, while the annealed fibers spun in 600-1500 m/min range exhibited dominantly $\alpha$-form. However $\beta$-form crystals disappeared above the spinning speed of 3000 m/min. With increasing spinning speeds from 600 to 4500 m/min, the storage modulus of as-spun fibers increased continuously and reached a value of about 10.4 spa at room temperature. The tan $\delta$curves showed the $\alpha$-relaxation peak at about 155-165^{\circ}C$, which is considered to correspond to the glass transition. The $\alpha$-relaxation peaks became smaller and broader, and shift to higher temperatures as the spinning speed increases, meaning that molecular mobility in the amorphous region is restricted by increased crystalline domain.

  • We report epitaxial growth of ZnO thin films on (100) single-crystalline $LaAlO_3$ (LAO) substrates using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) at different substrate temperatures (400~$800^{\circ}C$). The structural and electrical properties of the films have been investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscope (AFM), transmission line method (TLM). The poly-crystalline of $\alpha$- and c-axis oriented ZnO film was formed at lower deposition temperature ($T_s$) of $400^{\circ}C$. At higher $T_s$, however, the films exhibit single-crystalline of $\alpha$-axis orientation represented by ZnO[$\bar{1}11$ || LAO <001>. The electrical properties of ZnO thin films depend upon their crystalline orientation, showing lower electrical resistivity values for $\alpha$-axis oriented ZnO films.

  • In the present study, the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of $Al_{71.6}Ge_{28.4}$ eutectic alloy have been investigated. Stable (fcc ${\alpha}$-Al and diamond cubic ${\beta}$-Ge) and various metastable crystalline (monoclinic, rhombohedral) phases were produced by competitive phase selection during non-equilibrium processing methods i.e. melt spinning and injection casting. The as-injection casted samples containing metastable-equilibrium eutectic (${\alpha}$-Al + monoclinic) structure showed much higher strength than samples with equilibrium eutectic (${\alpha}-Al+{\beta}-Ge$) structure but plasticity disappointingly diminished. In order to endow the enhanced ductility without significant strength drop, the alloys was heat-treated at transition temperature from metastable phase to stable phase. The annealed specimen displayed the phase transformed microstructural evolution and enhanced macroscopic plasticity.

  • A number of thermotropic liquid crystalline polyurethanes with mesogenic unit were synthesized by polyaddition of a para-type diisocyanate such as 1, 4-phenylene diisocyanate(1,4-PDI) with 4, 4'-bis($\omega$-hydorxyalkoxy) biphenyls($BP{m}$) in DMF. The thermal and liquid crystab line properties were examined by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), polarized optical microscopy, and wide-angle X-ray scattering(WAXS). Intrinsic viscosities of the polymers exbibited two endothermic peaks correspondinding to phase transitions of melting and isotropization. For example, polyurethane(1,4-PDI/($BP{11}$) ) was found to display a liquid crystalline phase between 177 to 205$^{\circ}C$. In order to know how the hydrogen bonding interaction affects the formation of mesophases in polyurethane 1, 4-PDI/($BP{8}$) / thermal processing FT-IR measurements were carried out. It was found that the stretches regarded as shift to higher frequency region with increasing temperature which showed grdually their liquid crystalline phase

  • To generate more current in crystalline silicon solar cells, surface texturing is adopted by reducing the surface reflection. Conventionally, random pyramid texturing by the wet chemical process is used for surface texturing in crystalline silicon solar cell. To achieve higher efficiency of solar cells, well ordered inverted pyramid texturing was introduced. Although its complicated process, superior properties such as lower reflectance and recombination velocity can be achieved by optimizing the process. In this study, we investigated optical and passivation properties of inverted pyramid texture. Lifetime, implied-Voc and reflectance were measured with different width and size of the texture. Also, effects of chemical rounding at the valley of the pyramid were observed.
