  • The results of an investigation conducted to study the effect of crude oil contamination on the geotechnical properties of sand of presented. The effect of the degree of oil contamination on compaction characteristics, shear strength, and one-dimensional compression characteristics has been investigated. The test results indicate that the compaction characteristics are somewhat influenced by oil contamination. The angle of internal friction of sand (based on total stress basis) decreases due to the presence of oil within the pore spaces in sand. The compression characteristics of sand are significantly-influenced by oil contamination. The details of the tests conducted and the results are presented in the paper.

  • The need of heavy and unconventional crude oil as an energy source is increasing day by day, so does the importance of petroleomics: the pursuit of detailed knowledge of heavy crude oil. Crude oil needs techniques with ultra-high resolving capabilities to resolve its complex characteristics. Therefore, ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry represented by Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) has been successfully applied to the study of heavy and unconventional crude oils. The analysis of crude oil with high resolution mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) has pushed analysis to the limits of instrumental and methodological capabilities. Each high-resolution mass spectrum of crude oil may routinely contain over 50,000 peaks. To visualize and effectively study the large amount of data sets is not trivial. Therefore, data processing and visualization methods such as Kendrick mass defect and van Krevelen analyses and statistical analyses have played an important role. In this regard, it will not be an overstatement to say that the success of FT-ICR MS to the study of crude oil has been critically dependent on data processing methods. Therefore, this review offers introduction to peotroleomic data interpretation methods.

Surfactant-enhanced Soil Washing using Tween and Tergitol Series Surfactants for Kuwait Soil Heavily Contaminated with Crude Oil

  • Batch experiments were performed to investigate the feasibility of a surfactant-enhanced soil washing process for soils heavily contaminated with crude oil in Kuwait. TPH concentration of the contaminated soil was 223,754 mg/kg, sampled from the bottom of a vaporized oil extraction pond in the Burgan reservoir field. Commercialized eight nonionic surfactants (Tween and Tergitol series) were used to measure the aqueous solubility for the crude oil. Among them, two Tergitol surfactants were used to evaluate the TPH removal efficiency of the surfactant-enhanced soil washing for heavily contaminated Kuwait soil. The solubility of the crude oil in surfactant solution was in the order Tergitol 15-S-7 > Tergitol 15-S-9 > Tergitol 15-S-12 > Tween-80 > Tween-20 > Tween-60, which showed that the crude oil solubilities of the Tergitol series were higher than those of the Tween series. The TPH removal efficiencies of 2% and 5% Tergitol 15-S-9 solution were 59% and 65%, respectively. Because the residual TPH concentration in the washed soil was still higher than the clean-up level (10,000 mg/kg), the soil washing process was repeated five times. After the fifth washing, the residual TPH concentration in the soil went down to 7,680 mg/kg and its removal efficiency was 97%.

Lincomycin Production in the culture of Streptomyces lincolnensis using crude soybean oil in air lift bioreactor

  • Using crude soybean oil as the sole carbon source, the lincomycin production from Streptomyces lincolnensis LC 345 was investigated in the air lift bioreactor. When 30 g/L of crude soybean oil was used, the maximum lincomycin concentration reached 0.89 g/L, after 5 days of culture. When CSL concentration was increased from 10 to 30 g/L, Lincomycin concentration was increased from 0.6 to 1.2. On the other hand, when CSL concentration was increased from 40 to 60 g/L, it was decreased from 1.15 to 0.7 g/L. Using these results, fed batch cultures for comparing the use of crude soybean oil and glucose as a conventional carbon source were carried out in a 5 L air lift bioreactor. When crude soybean oil was used as the sole carbon source, the maximum lincomycin concentration was 2.0 g/L, which was about 2.0 fold higher than that of glucose medium after 7 day of culture. The product yield from olive oil was 0.042 g/g consumed carbon source, which was about 3.8 fold higher than that of glucose.

식용자원으로의 활용을 위한 오소리(단육)에 관한 연구 -오소리 기름과 한약재를 첨가한 발효액의 영양학적 특성 및 안전성 평가- (Study on the Meles meles as Applications in Edible Food Resource Applications -Nutritional Characteristics and Safety Evaluation on Meles meles Oil and Fermented Liquid with Medicinal Herbs-)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of Meles moles application as an edible functional food resource. This study was conducted to estimate the general nutrition composition, amino acid and minerals contents, fatty acid composition of Meles meles oil and the added fermented medicinal herbs liquid, and examine the cell toxicity effects in normal liver and kidney cells. The approximate composition of Meles moles oil was crude fat, 97.64%, crude ash, 1.99% and crude protein, 0.37%. In the fermented liquid, the approximate composition was moisture, 96.08%, Carbohydrate, 1.53%, crude ash, 0.92%, dietary fiber, 0.65%, crude protein, 0.54% and crude fat, 0.28%. The amino acid contents were 2.67 and 80.9mg% in the oil and liquid, respectively. The singularity of the unsaturated fatty acid contents attracted our attention. Especially, the polyunsaturated fatty acid compositions were 32.28 and 54.98% in oil and liquid, respectively. Negative effects were not found form the results of the cell toxicity respection. These results imply that Meles effects oil and the added fermented medicinal herbs liquid can be used as possible food resources and functional food materials.

The Impact of Crude Oil Prices on Macroeconomic Factors in Korea

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine how Korea's macroeconomic factors, such as GDP, CPI, Export, Import, Unemployment rate and USD/KRW exchange rate, are affected by the oil price shocks. Design/methodology/approach - This study used monthly and quarterly time-series data of each variable for the period 1983 to 2022, consisting of two sub-periods, to employ Granger causality test and GARCH method in order to identify the role of the oil price movement in macroeconomic factors in Korea. Findings - Korea's currency rate to the US dollar is negatively correlated with the price change of crude oil while the GDP change is positively correlated with the price change of crude oil with strong relationship between Export and Import in particular. The exchange rate and GDP growth are believed to be not correlated with the oil price change for the pre-GFC period. According to the Granger causality test, the price change in crude oil has a causal impact on CPI, Export and Import while other factors are relatively slightly affected. Transmission effect from the oil price to Export is found and there also exists volatility spillover from oil price to economic variables under examination. Comparing two sub-periods, CPI and Export volatility responds negatively to shocks in the oil price for the pre-GFC period while volatility of CPI and Unemployment reacts positively to the oil price shocks for the post-GFC period. Research implications or Originality - The findings of this study could be helpful for both domestic and international investors to build their portfolio for the risk management since rising WTI price can be interpreted as a result of global economic growth and ensuing increase in the worldwide demand of the crude oil. Consequently, the national output is expected to increase and the currency is also expected to be strong in the long run.

원유시장 분석을 위한 VaR 모형 (Value-at-Risk Models in Crude Oil Markets)

  • 본 연구에서는 원유시장의 변동성 분석에 적용될 수 있는 VaR(Value-at-Risk) 접근법을 고찰한다. 그리고 다양한 VaR 모형들(RiskMetrics, GARCH, IGARCH와 FIGARCH 모형)의 성과를 정규분포와 치우친 Student-t 분포 가정 하에서 평가한다. Brent 및 Dubai 시장의 일별가격 자료를 이용한 실증분석 결과에 따르면, FIGARCH 모형이 GARCH 모형이나 IGARCH 모형보다 원유시장의 변동성에 내재되어 있는 장기기억 특성을 잘 반영한다는 점에서 더 우월한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 사실은 원유시장 수익률의 변동성에는 장기기억이 존재한다는 것을 의미한다. 그리고 VaR 분석 결과, 치우친 Student-t 분포 가정 하에서 추정되는 FIGARCH 모형이 롱 포지션과 숏 포지션 모두에서 정규분포 가정 하에서 추정되는 다른 변동성 모형들보다 원유시장에서의 투자 위험을 더 정확하게 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 사실은 치우친 Student-t 분포 가정이 원유시장 수익률 분포에 내재되어 있는 비정상적 왜도와 첨도를 모형화하는데 더 적합하다는 것을 의미한다. 이와 같은 발견은 원유시장 구매자 및 판매자들이 원유가격의 움직임을 올바르게 측정하고 VaR을 정확하게 추정하는데 도움을 줄 것이다.

미국 재고량과 OPEC 생산량이 국제원유가격 변동에 미치는 영향분석 (Effects of U.S. Inventory and OPEC Production on Crude Oil Price)

  • 국제원유가격의 변동은 세계 각국의 경제에 상당한 영향을 미치고 있다. 이러한 원유가격의 변동을 정확히 예측하기 위해서는 원유가격 변동요인의 정립이 필히 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 전통적으로 원유가격의 중요한 변동요인으로 알려져 있는 OPEC의 원유생산량과 걸프전쟁 이후 주요한 국제원유가격 변동요인으로 주목받고 있는 미국의 원유재고량의 영향과 역할을 공적분(Cointegration) 모형과 오차수정모형(Error-Correction Model)을 통해 분석하였다. 분석결과, 원유생산량과 더불어 원유재고량도 원유가격의 중요한 변동요인으로 작용함을 알 수 있었다. 장 단기 탄력성의 경우, 원유생산량의 생산탄력성은 장기에 비해 단기에 더 탄력적으로 나타났으며 원유재고량의 재고탄력성은 단기에 비해 장기에 더 탄력적으로 나타났으며 장기에는 원유재고량의 변동이 생산량의 변동보다 오히려 원유가격에 더 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 원유가격은 첫해에서 나타난 불균형을 대략 12%의 조정속도로, 장기균형으로 조정됨을 알 수 있었다.

튀김 조리에 의한 식용유지의 변화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Changes of Frying Oil in Cooking)

  • This work was carried out to investigate the changes of chemical and physical properties of frying oil, when it was used many times continuously without adding new oil. Four kinds of frying oil (soybean oil, rapeseed oil, shortening and crude lard) and slices of potato and Aji (kind of fish) were used in the experiment under the condition of home cooking. Obtained results were as in the followings. 1. Acid values and peroxide values of each frying oil were under the safety level (A. V = 1.5, Po. V = 50) except crude lard, when frying works were continuously repeated five times for 50 days. 2. Changes of saponification values of each frying oil showed a decreasing tendency except the crude lard. But in cases, stickiness or clothing of oil were not seen in frying even at the five times frying. 3. Changes of optical density of each frying oil showed a decreasing tendency in all cases, according to the times of frying, especially at the first time frying. 4. Maximum heights of the shamp of each frying oil and their shampholding activites when heated, were slowly increased according to the times of frying. 5. Without concerning the cooking condition (kinds of oil, cooking material and repeating times of frying) decrement of oil in once frying was almost exactly 20g per 150g. 6. Decrements of cooking material in all cases of frying showed almost constant values, potato to be 40% and Aji 20%. 7. Differences of smoke point between new and old oil (frying repeated 5 times) showed also almost constant values. Liquid oil (soybean oil and rapeseed oil) showed number (6-$10^{\circ}C$), on the contrally solid oil (shortening and crude lard) a high number (10-$25^{\circ}C$). 8. Results of public tastic for the frying products were almost good even in that of a low five times frying, but the products, of third time frying with crude lard were expressed as disagreeable.

미강유의 정제과정중 잔류농약의 감소 (Removal of Pesticide Residues in Rice Bran Oil by Refining Process)

  • This study was carried out to determine the pesticide residues in rice bran, crude rice bran oil and the oil of various stages of refining process. Each samples were analyzed for 41 pesticide residues by multiclass multiresidue methods with GC-ECD, NPD and identified by GC-MSD. Rice bran were detected cypermethrin, diazinon, dichlofluanid, and its level were ranged from 0.01~0.122 ppm. Crude rice bran oil were detected cypermethrin, diazinon, dichlofluanid, dimethoate, etrimfos, flucythrinate, and its level were ranged from 0.015~0.654 ppm Crude rice bran oil has the higher level of pesticide residues and more varieties of pesticides than rice bran. But pesticide residues in the crude rice bran oil was found to be almost removed then pigment was decolorized by absorption using active carbon and clealy removed by thermolysis for deodorization.
