  • Exploitation of equipment with cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation requires its condition monitoring and diagnostic. Traditionally diagnostics of insulation is carried out by means of partial discharge detection. Many researchers have developed a lot of methods to identify the defect by the PD form. However, such identification of a defect, for example, void, inclusion or treeing, does not say about its danger from a point of view of full insulation gap breakdown and insulation construction failure. The information about the form and size of formed upon high voltage treeing is necessary for prediction of the remained resource of XLPE insulation. For this purpose we carry out experimental research for determination of the dependencies between PD characteristics in XLPE upon time and three dimension PD patterns of corresponding treeing. The investigations were carried out by means of electrical measurement of PD current and simultaneous optical recording of treeing image. Test results show that the PD patterns can be applied for detecting tree growth well.

  • This paper temperature gradient thermally stimulated surface potentian (TG-TSSP) in measurements are applied to the study of the polarity of trapped and ionic carriers in cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) filsm. In the thermally stimulated current in uniform temperature (TSC) of XLPE five peaks appear as indicated of the A B C D and E. In this paper A (at about -120$^{\circ}C$) D (at about 70$^{\circ}C$) and E (at about 110$^{\circ}C$) peaks are investigated. A peak is due to the biassing voltage and biassing temperature. Appear in to the glass transition temperature territory and caused in to the polarization of dipole. D peak is due to the depolarization of ionic space charge and E peak due to the detrapping of carriers injected from the electrodes. TG-TSSP and TSSP are measured to study the polarity of ionic carrier (D peak). In the unsatureated region of ionic space charge polarization, TG-TSSP is lower than TSSP during the initial stage of heating. Result of the experiment for E peak, TG-TSSP is higher than TSSP during the initial stage of heating and these results do not depend on the polarity of biassing voltage, and E peak is concerned with positive carriers (Holes).

  • Transmission equipment is mainly used for the XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) insulation cable for ultra high voltage power to minimize power loss. The experiment examined the partial discharge characteristics according to the insertion of the bar electrode and needle electrode into the XLPE specimen and the air voids. XLPE insulation cable manufactured by T. company and tungsten electrode material by K. company were used for specimens, by adhering conductive tape on the semi-conductive material of the lower electrode of XLPE specimen with the dimension of $16{\times}40{\times}30$ [mm] was used as negative electrode. In order to investigate the PD with ${\phi}$-q-n of XLPE specimen according to the electrode shape and the size of air voids. we examined the PD by varying the voltage after applying voltage of 3~20 kV on the electrode. Therefore, it was confirmed from the result of PD characteristics of specimen that the larger the air void than the gap between electrode (+) and electrode(-), the larger effect on the discharge when the bar electrode and needle electrode inserted into XLPE, and the closer the distance between the insulation and the needle electrode, the faster insulation breakdown.

  • In this paper, we examine discharge characteristics of cross-linked polyethylene (since then; XLPE) according to thickness. Voltage was applied to power frequency by step method, and calibration of discharge was set to 50[pC] (slope=8.333). After the voltage was applied, for 10 [sec] (600 [cycle]), occurring discharge and number were detected. Determine of input pattern is difficult because discharge pattern is irregular. Therefore we investigated pattern using the K-means Analysis and Weibull function. Also we investigated variation of centroid and cluster.

  • Cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulators are used as insulation in ultra-high voltage electric power cables. This study investigated the electrical properties of XLPE at different temperatures. The electrical properties of the changing tree phenomenon was examined as a function of temperature applied to the electrical conductors by measuring the partial discharge at $25^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$ and applied voltages to the electrodes ranging from 1 kV to 40 kV. The activity of the partial discharge was examined at various temperatures using the K-means distribution. The results revealed the specimen at $80^{\circ}C$ to have the lowest inception voltage and breakdown voltage. In addition, the core of clusters was moved $0^{\circ}$ and $180^{\circ}$ at the positive region and $180^{\circ}$ and $360^{\circ}$ in the negative region in the K-means. The distribution of clusters was concentrated on the inception condition and spread out widely at the breakdown voltage.

  • Design and experiments of a nondestructive testing system with a solenoid eddy current sensor to inspect deterioration of ASCR-OC (ACSR Outdoor Cross-linked Polyethylene Insulated Wires) usually used in HV overhead distribution lines in domestic areas in presented in this paper. Through corrosion mechanisms and deterioration results for ACSR-OC conductors are examined, it is shown that corrosion may lead to the reduction of the effective cross section area of conductors is proposed. The measurement system consisting of a constant current source with a RF frequency, a signal processing unit and a motor driver/ controller is designed and implemented. This instrument has such capabilities as detecting the sensor output and estimating diameter change of the testing conductors, continuously. As a result, it was verified that such corrosion detector system with an eddy current sensor can be shown good effectiveness for estimating the serious faults due to deterioration in overhead distribution lines and giving an early warming before severe aged conductor may lead to fail.

  • Specific monoclonal antibodies(mAbs) against bis-indole alkaloids related to vinblastine were established to develop a simple and specific immunoassay system for the quantitation of Vinca alkaloids. Vinca alkaloids were extracted from tissue cultured cells of periwinkle plant (Vinca rosea L.). Spleen cells from Balb/c mice immunized with vinblastine-bovine serum albumin(VBL-BSA) conjugate as immunogen were fused with myeloma cells(Sp2/0-Ag.14) in the presence of polyethylene glycol. In the preliminary experiments, 32 clones which highly reacted with VBL-BSA conjugate were selected by ELISA(Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). These clones were further analyzed by inhibition assay of ELISA. The results obtained with two typical monoclonal antibodies, KN-1 and KN-2, were described. KN-1 exhibited considerable reactivities with soluble dimeric bis-indole alkaloids, whereas no cross reacted with monomeric bis-indole alkaloids. However KN-2 showed cross reactivity with mono- and di-meric bis-indole alkaloids. Furthermore, KN-1 was applied to the immunoassay system for determining the VBL amounts of in vitro cultured cell extracts. This assay system could detect dimeric vinca alkaloid as low as 0.05 nM.

  • This paper presents a two-port time-domain reflectometry(TDR) measurement technique for extracting the complex propagation constant of a cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE) cable. For the extraction, a short pulse transmitted through the cable is measured in the time domain and analyzed in the frequency domain. The propagation constant of a 22.9 kV XLPE cable with a conductor area of 325 $mm^2$ is extracted up to a frequency of approximately 2.14 GHz. The $S_{21}$ measured using a network analyzer and the two-port TDR technique are compared for verification. As a result compared with previous TDR method, the upper possible frequency limit for extracting the propagation constant increases and the measurement error decreases.
