UV-visible absorption measurement techniques using several horizone viewing directions in addition to the traditional zenith-sky pointing have been recently developed in ground-based remote sensing of atmospheric constituents. The spatial distribution of various trace gases close to the instrument can be derived by combing several viewing directions. Multi-axis differential optical absorption spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS) technique, one of the remote sensing techniques for air quality measurements, uses the scattered sunlight as a light source and measures it at various elevation angles (corresponding to the viewing directions) by sequential scanning with a stepper motor. A MAX-DOAS system developed by GIST/ADEMRC has been applied to measuring trace gases in urban air and plumes of the volcano and fossil fuel power plant in January, May, and October 2004, respectively. MAX-DOAS spectra were analyzed to identify and quantify $SO_2,\;NO_2,\;BrO,\;and\;O_4$ (based on Slant Column Densities, SCD) in the urban air, volcanic plume, and fossil fuel power plant utilizing theirs specific structured absorption features in the UV-visible region. Vertical scan through the multiple elevation angles was performed at different directions perpendicular to the plume dispersion to retrieve cross-sectional distribution of $SO_2\;or\;NO_2$ in the plumes of the volcano and fossil fuel power plant. Based on the estimated cross sections of the plumes the mixing ratios were estimated to 580 $SO_2$ ppbv in the volcanic Plume, and 337 $NO_2\;and\;227\;SO_2$ ppbv in the plume of the fossil fuel power plant, respectively.

FED has deserved an intensive attentioD as a new flat panel display. The present investigationaims at undemtanding the photoluminescence and cathodoluminescent properties of hGaO$_3$: $Eu^{3+}$ phosphor bytaking into account the possibility that this phosphor could be applied for FED. In onler to investigate on.sucha detailed behavior; 8everM experimental skil18 Je conducted to the LaGaO$_3$:$Eu^{3+}$ phosphoL The excimtion srectrum artd emission spectmn were rnezsured in the UV range and then decay curve of $^5D_0$+$^7F_j$transitions\vas examined. The decay behavior of $^5D_0$ emission was anMyzed by a newly Iuoposed cross-relaxation mech-ani8In in asswiation with inteFwnter di1ffision (or migration). The cross-mlaxation from $^5D_0$ to CTB (Cha'geTransfer Band) wuld be a quite retsonable by considering the excitation spectrum. It could be also found thatthe quenching type was changed from ditfrsion controlled process to the direct quenching process -s inJeasing $Eu^{3+}$ oncntration.
The AWG-filtering effect was investigated on a bidirectional 100-GHz-channel-spacing WDM-PON link using spectrum-sliced and RSOA-amplified light sources for downstream signals and a wavelength reuse technique for upstream signals. Signal performances of three different filtering AWGs, including Gaussian, trapezoidal, and rectangular types, were compared on link transmission with fiber nonlinear effects. As an extinction ratio of a downstream signal varied, the effect for both directional signals was analyzed and optimized. It was found that there was an optimal pass bandwidth of an AWG for the balance between relative intensity noise decrement and cross phase modulation noise increment as the bandwidth got wider.
Modification of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) films by using hydroxylamine (HA) and hydrazine to produce hydroxyl and amine groups, respectively, and to introduce cross-linking of PAN polymers was studied. Modified PAN films obtained by HA and/or hydrazine treatment including a successive or a simultaneous process were analyzed by the degree of conversion, water and N,N'-dimethylformamide (DMF) swelling ratio, FTIR spectra, atom content, and thermal analysis data. PAN films reacted with HA showed increased hydrophilicity and low dimensional stability in water. Hydrazine treatment gave PAN films high dimensional stability of low DMF swelling. Although the DMF swelling ratio of the modified PAN films was dramatically decreased by the successive treatment of hydrazine and HA, the introduction of the hydrophilic functional groups was limited due to the cross-linking. Simultaneous treatment of HA and hydrazine was the most effective method to increase hydrophilicity of PAN films with a high dimensional stability.
This paper developed a method analyze drivers' response characteristics using spectral analysis with car following data. Cross-correlation function and cross spectrum are produced by Fourier transform from speed fluctuations of leading vehicle and following vehicle during the designated time ${\tau}$. Based on the analysis data, a process to calculate the reaction time and stimulus-adaption index of following vehicle was developed and 170 cases of field data was applied. It was reported average of 0.654 and 2.091 seconds of stimulus-adaption index and reaction time respectively. In conclusion, the developed indexes might contribute to enhance vehicle control of autonomous vehicle more efficient and safer.
Sesamin and sesamolin are major lignan components with a wide range of potential biological activities of sesame seeds. Near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) is a rapid and non-destructive analysis method widely used for the quantitative determination of major components in many agricultural products. This study was conducted to develop a screening method to determine the lignan contents for sesame breeding. Sesamin and sesamolin contents of 482 sesame samples ranged from 0.03-14.40 mg/g and 0.10-3.79 mg/g with an average of 4.93 mg/g and 1.74 mg/g, respectively. Each sample was scanned using NIRS and calculated for the calibration and validation equations. The optimal performance calibration model was obtained from the original spectra using partial least squares (PLS). The coefficient of determination in calibration (R2) and standard error of calibration (SEC) were 0.963 and 0.861 for sesamin and 0.875 and 0.292 for sesamolin, respectively. Cross-validation results of the NIRS equation showed an R2 of 0.889 in the prediction for sesamin and 0.781 for sesamolin and a standard error of cross-validation (SECV) of 1.163 for sesamin and 0.417 for sesamolin. The results showed that the NIRS equation for sesamin and sesamolin could be effective in selecting high lignan sesame lines in early generations of sesame breeding.

The effects of the treatment of an acidic solution at pH 2 on polyacrylonitrile ultrafiltration (UF) membranes were investigated using a circular cross-flow filtration bench with a membrane module. A substantial reduction in the membrane permeability was observed after 80 hours' treatment of the acidic solution. In addition, the analyses of the sample solutions by ultraviolet/visible absorption spectroscopy and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), which were taken from the feed tank as a function of the treatment time, showed that a new organic compound was produced in the course of the treatment. From a thorough search of the mass spectral library we presumed the new compound to be 1,6-dioxacyclododecane-7,12-dione (DCD), one of the well-known additives for polyurethane. Based on further experimental results, including the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images and the solid-state NMR spectra of the membranes used for the treatment of the acidic solution, we suggested that the decrease of the permeate flux resulted not from the deformation of the membranes, but from the fouling by DCD eluted from the polyurethane tubes in the filtration bench during the treatment. Those results imply that the reactivity to an acidic solution of the parts comprising the filtration bench is as important as that of the membranes themselves for effective treatments of acidic solutions, for efficient chemical cleaning by strong acids, and also in determining the pH limit of the solutions that can be treated by the membranes.

Sea level and atmospheric pressure data of 1999-2005 from four stations along the Korean east coast were analyzed to understand the sea level variability and its causal mechanism. The results of the wavelet and the auto-spectrum analyses indicate that the sea level fluctuations of 3-17 day period are statistically significant at the 95% confidence level, especially in spring to early summer. In this period, the coherency between the sea levels and the atmospheric pressures in a cross-spectrum is high, implying the importance of an inverted barometric effect in generation of the sea level fluctuations. To learn about the sea level variability, the cross-spectrum analyses were applied between the sea levels of the adjacent stations. The results show a case of southward phase propagations along the coast, as in 1999, 2003 and 2005, and an another case of no progressive phase lags between the stations, as in 2000-2002, and 2004. The phase speed in the former case is 12-15 m/s, which is a commonly observed phase speed of coastal Kelvin waves. Generation of such fluctuations seems to be related to low pressure cells developed in the Asian continent in spring and summer and moving eastward over the coastal region north of the stations. The latter case of no progressive phase lag, however, occurs when the low pressure cells developed in the continent move along the region south of the stations. In this case, the northeastward phase propagation with a speed of 5-8 m/s is observed along the southwestern coast of Japan.
Phase separations of Poly(4-vinylphenol)(PVPh)/Ethyl Acetate and PVPh/Butyl Acetate solutions were measured using the thermal optical analysis (TOA) method. The experimental phase separation data were correlated with liquid-liquid equilibria relations based on PC-SAFT equation of state. The phase separations of these system showed the behaviors of LCST (lower critical solution temperature)-type. The measured cloud temperatures were lowered with increasing in molecular weights of polymer(PVPh), and cloud temperatures of PVPh/Ethyl Acetate solutions shifted to lower temperature regions, compared to the PVPh/Butyl Acetate solutions. Extents of cross-association between solvent molecule and polymer in the PVPh/Ethyl Acetate solutions were measured using the FT-IR spectrum analysis method, and cross-association parameters of PC-SAFT model were estimated from experimental extents of cross-association. By using the estimated cross-association parameters between PVPh and solvent molecule, binodal and spinodal curves of liquid-liquid equilibria in PVPh/Ethyl Acetate and PVPh/Butyl Acetate solutions were calculated from PC-SAFT equation of state. The calculated binodal curves of these system were shown to be well agreeable with the experimental cloud temperature curves.

Cross-interferometic synthetic aperture radar (CInSAR) technique from ERS-2 and Envisat images is capable of generating submeter-accuracy digital elevation model (DEM). However, it is very difficult to produce high-quality CInSAR-derived DEM due to the difference in the azimuth and range pixel size between ERS-2 and Envisat images as well as the small height ambiguity of CInSAR interferogram. In this study, we have proposed an efficient method to overcome the problems, produced a high-quality DEM over northern Alaska, and compared the CInSAR-derived DEM with the national elevation dataset (NED) DEM from U.S. Geological Survey. In the proposed method, azimuth common band filtering is applied in the radar raw data processing to mitigate the mis-registation due to the difference in the azimuth and range pixel size, and differential SAR interferogram (DInSAR) is used for reducing the unwrapping error occurred by the high fringe rate of CInSAR interferogram. Using the CInSAR DEM, we have identified and corrected man-made artifacts in the NED DEM. The wave number analysis further confirms that the CInSAR DEM has valid Signal in the high frequency of more than 0.08 radians/m (about 40m) while the NED DEM does not. Our results indicate that the CInSAR DEM is superior to the NED DEM in terms of both height precision and ground resolution.
