Effects of Liming and Nitrogen Sources on the Yield and Quality of Burley Tobacco II. Effects of Chemical Constituents of tobacco leaves (석회의 질소원이 버어리종 담배의 수량과 품질에 미치는 영향 II. 잎담배의 화학성분에 미치는 영향)

  • A field experiment was conducted to find out the effects of liming (soil pH) and sources of N on the chemical constituents of soil and leaf lamina of burley tobacco. Treatments consisted of liming (nonliming, liming to soil pH 5.5 and 6.5) as the main plot and N sources[compound fertilizer of containing 3.9% $NH_4-N$ and 6.1% $NH_2-N,\;NaNO_3,\;(NH_2)_2CO\;and\;(NH_4)_2SO_4$]as the sub-plot. The soil pH was high in $NaNO_2$ plot, while low in $(NH_4)_2SO_4$. But the differences of Ca concentration in top soil among N sources were not detected. The $NO_3-N$ concentration in top soil was high in high limed and $NaNO_3$ plot. The $NO_3-N$ content of leaf (lamina) at 75 days after transplanting was high in $NaNO_3$ plot and CaO con-tent of leaf at 45 days after transplanting was high in high limed plot. But neither liming nor N source had effect on the contents of total nitrogen, $P_2-O_{5}\;and\;K_2O$ of leaf during growing season. There was no significant differences in total alkaloid and total nitrogen contents of cured leaf (lamina) to liming and N source. But when the source of N was $NaNO_3$, the content of total alkaloid was increased by adding lime. When the source of N was $(NH_4$)_2SO_4$, the content of $K_2O$ in cured leaf was high while CaO was low. But neither liming nor N source had effect on the contents of $P_2-O_{5}$ and MgO in cured leaf.

Effect of Content of Potato Tuber Component and Potato Variety on the Bioethanol Production (감자의 성분함량과 품종이 바이오에탄올 생산에 미치는 영향)

  • The contents of starch, moisture, crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, and ash of different varieties of potatoes were analyzed. The average starch contents of Go-woon, Ha-ryoung, Dae-seo, Jo-won, Ga-won potatoes were $17.9{\pm}0.2$, $18.0{\pm}1.7$, $17.7{\pm}0.5$, $14.8{\pm}0.4$, and $16.2{\pm}1.0%$, respectively. The ground powder of each starchy substrate was suspended in distilled water, and then liquefied, saccharified, and fermented by Saccharomyces cerevisiae ATCC26603 at $30^{\circ}C$ for 4 days. By statistical analysis, the effectiveness of the contents of the different components of the potato tubers on the ethanol production were examined. The results showed that the starch content positively affected the ethanol production. while moisture content affected negatively the ethanol production. Ethanol production from the 5 different varieties of potato tubers harvested on different time were examined and the results indicated that both of potato variety and the harvesting-time significantly affected the ethanol production. Among the several varieties of potato, Ha-ryoung produced the highest yield of ethanol as much as $94.3{\pm}1.9$ L/ton or $3111{\pm}62.7$ L/ha.

Growth and Aromatic Constituents of Wild and Domesticated Codonopsis lanceolata Grown at Two Different Regions (야생 및 재배더덕의 재배장소에 따른 생육 및 향기성분)

  • Growth characteristics and aromatic constituents of wild and domesticated Codonopsis lanceolata grown in different regions were investigated to find the best cultural condition for quality improvement. The results were as followings: Air temperature of wild region was lower to 4~8 and soil temperature was also lower to 3 compared with domesticated region. Soil of wild region had about three times richer organic matter with lower pH. Chromosome number of wild and domestcated species was 2n=16, ovary number was 3, but seed number of wild species was 132 vs domesticated showing 62. Recovery yield of wild species grown wild region had 0.55%, besides that, the wild species grown in domesticated region had 0.34. But the domesticated species in wild and domesticated regions was the same as 0.28. Inorganic element contents of domesticated region showed much higher than that of wild region. Major aromatic constituents were specified in wild Codonopsis lanceolata as dimethyl benzene, 3-ethyl-5-2-(ethylbutyl)-octadecane, benzaldehyde, 14, 14-dimethyl-hexadecanoate, methylhexadecenoate of which was not detected in domesticated species.

  • The hop alpha-acid content prediction model developed with meteorological elements in Hoeongseong was Y=28.369-0.003X$_1$+1.558X$_2$-1.953X$_3$-0.335X$_4$-0.003X$\sub$5/-0.119X$\sub$6/, with MSEp of 0.004, Rp$^2$ of 0.9987, Rap$_2$ of 0.9949 and Cp of 7.00. The total sunshine hours (X$_1$), the maximum temperature (X$_3$) and the total precipitation (X$\sub$5/) at flowering stage. the maximum temperature at flower bud differentiation stage (X$_4$) and the maximum temperature at cone ripening stage (X$\sub$6/) influenced on hop alpha .acid content as decrement weather elements. The maximum temperature at cone development stage(X$_2$) effected on ${\alpha}$-acid content as increment weather element.

  • [n order to find out the effects of nitrogen fertilizer and planting density on the leaf characteristics of high yielding cultivars of rice, Dongjin (Japonica type) and Samkang (Tongil type) were .grown under two nitrogen levels (150 and 250 kg N/ha) and three planting densities (30 ${\times}$ 15 cm, 30 ${\times}$ 12 cm, 30 ${\times}$ 9 cm. Leaf blade, sheath and dry weight of individual leaf. the number of green leaves after flowering were measured. Samkang was characterized as longer and wider leaf blade and sheath than Dongjin, less sensitive to nitrogen fertilizer and planting density, and higher proportions of green leaves after flowering. These morphological characteristics of Samkang caused an increase of grain yield by 30 per cent.

Variation of Isoflavone and Saponin During Maturity in Black Soybean (검정콩의 등숙기간 중 Isoflavone과 Saponin 함량변이)

  • This study was conducted to investigate antioxidant component content during maturity for judgement of optimum harvest time in black soybean. For high-functional black soybean production, accumulation pattern of isoflavone and saponin contents and anti oxidative activity according to maturity stage were investigated. Varieties used in this experiment were Ilpumgemojeongkong and heukcheongkong, which are the recommended black soybean in Korea. Isoflavone and saponin contents during maturity period in black soybean was the highest at $6{\sim}7$ days earlier than general harvesting time. It was indicated that optimum harvesting time for high quality soybean were $3{\sim}7$ days earlier than harvesting time for higher yield. As a result of investigation about accumulation pattern of antioxidant components by maturity stages in seed, total isoflavone content was the highest at 61 DAF in Ilpumgeomjeongkong and at 77 DAF in Heukcheongkong. Contents of total saponin were the highest at 61 DAF and at 71 DAF, respectively. In case of leaf, total isoflavone content was the highest at 55 DAF in Ilpumgeomjeongkong and Heukcheongkong. Contents of total saponin were the highest at 18 DAF and at $55{\sim}71$ DAF, respectively. It showed that black soybean's leaf could be developed as a new health food material, owing to high contents of antioxidant components and biological activity and it's suitable harvest time was at $R_7$.

Growth, Vitamin C, and Mineral Contents of Sedum sarmentosum in Soil and Hydroponic Cultivation (토경 및 수경재배에서 돌나물의 생육, 비타민 C와 무기성분 함량 변이)

  • The growth, yield and quality of Sedum sarmentosum between soil and hydroponic cultivation were compared to produce high-quality shoots in summer season. The plants were collected from four places in Korea and cultivated in a plastic film house with 50% shading. A 1:1:1 mixtures of sand, upland soil and substrate (N-P-K: 330-220-400 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$) was used for soil cultivation, and a nutrient film technique (NFT) with Yamazaki-lettuce nutrient solution used for hydroponics. After 30 days of cultivation, plant height ranged from 18.4 to 21.8 cm and showed no significant difference between soil and hydroponic cultivation. Number of shoot, leaf length, leaf width, number of leaf, fresh weight, and dry weight significantly increased in hydroponics compared to those in soil cultivation. Fresh and dry weights in hydroponics were greater in 'Gunsan' and 'Wando' collections than those in other collections. Stem diameter and compression-force significantly increased in soil cultivation rather than hydroponics with significant differences among collections. However there were no significant differences in shoot bitterness and vitamin C content between cultivation methods or among the collections. Most mineral contents except Fe in hydroponics were higher than those in soil cultivation. K, Na, Zn contents in hydroponics were over 2 times higher than those in soil cultivation.

  • An agrivoltaic systems (AVS) is mixed systems associating photovoltaic panels (PVPs) and crop cultivation at the same time on the given land area. It is receiving attention to improve rural economy. However, it is likely that, the crop yield should be decreased due to the reduced absorption of solar radiation by leaves. Thus, before popularizing the AVS, it is necessary to comprehend the degree of shading by PVPs in AVS. In this study, the change of radiation condition under AVS mimic shading net was investigated. The minimum and maximum of difference of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) between under and outside shading net were 3.03 mol/㎡/day on a cloudy day and 17.08 mol/㎡/day on a sunny day. This difference decreased when the ratio of diffuse irradiance to global irradiance increased. Such a shading effect resulted in the increase of rice height and decrease of rice tillering.

  • The effects of slow-release fertilizer, C. D. U. (cyclo-di-urea), vinyl mulching and herbicides in different combinations were tested for weed control as well as the growth and yield of Cnidium officinale and economics were analyzed. Black vinyl mulching, ethalfluralin EC+white vinyl mulching, and ethalfluralin EC controlled weed completely till 60days after planting. When pendimethalin GR was sprayed more than 4.5kg/10a weed control value was $93.7{\sim}97.3%$, so significant difference was recognized with the recommended application rate (3.0kg/10a).

  • When ginseng seedlings are cultured in paddy fields, quality degradation and yield reduction are induced by severe plant loss with chlorosis on leaves occurred physiological disorder by excessive salt and poor drainage, rusty-root occurrence, and root rot etc. Accordingly, in order to solve these problems, this study was performed to investigate the treatment method, concentrations and time of activated ion calcium as environment-friendly agricultural materials. Activated ion calcium is an enriched and purified water-soluble mineral calcium component for absorbing quickly into plant as a highly functional calcium and it is an alkaline calcium of 37% (370 $m{\ell}$/1 ${\ell}$) concentration with pH 13. Treatment method was that ginseng seeds were sown after removing water in the shade after seed immersion for 1 minute with active ion calcium of 20-fold diluted solution, and then irrigated $4{\ell}$ per 3.3 $m^2$ with 200-fold, 400-fold, and 600-fold diluted solution before emergence on late March, and supplied 1 time on leaves with 500-fold diluted solution in June and July respectively. The disease rate by treatment of activated ion calcium was that on the treatment of soil irrigated with 200-fold diluted solution compared to non-treated soil, damping-off was 33%, anthracnose was 100% reduced and the occurrence rate of rusty-root was 30% reduced. In addition, when active ion calcium of 200-fold diluted solution were soil irrigated, first and second grade ginseng were respectively 26% and 22% produced more, compared with control.
