Theory of Liquid Water (액체 물에 관한 이론)

  • A theory of liquid water is developed by assuming that the molecules in the liquid state have solid-like and gas-like degrees of freedom. The spectroscopic data are used in assigning the vibrational frequencies of solid-like molecules. The calculated values of molar volume, vapor pressure, entropy, entropy of vaporization, expansion coefficient, compressibility, heat capacities at constant volume and at constant pressure, surface tension and critical point properties are all in excellent agreement with the observed data.

  • Upon melting, a part of ethylene-chloride molecules in trans-form in the solid state changes into gauche-form. The partition function for the material was developed according to the significant structure theory of liquid proposed by H. Eyring and his co-workers, and the parameters $E_s$, ${\theta}$, $V_s$, and a, therein, are determined by the manner developed by Chang, et al. The molar volume, vapor pressure, vaporization entropy, critical point properties and surface tension of the liquid were calculated. The results are in good agreement with experimental values.

  • A new quaternary ammonium compound, hydrolyzed ginseng-sapoin quaternary (HGSQ), from hydrolyzed Korean ginseng-saponin and 2, 3-epoxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride has been developed as a conditioning agent for hair care products. This structure has the hydrophilic group from the introduced cationic and the hydrophobic group from the aglycone of ginseng saponin. Its properties: surface tension, conductivity, critical micelle concentration, eye irritation, sorption onto hair, force reduction (%) for 20% extension and moisture retention effect comparing with the commercial standards. Also half-head tests of HGSQ-containing shampoo were carried out to compare the conditioning effects in shampoos.

  • The partition function of liquid fluorine were developed by applying the theory of significant structures in liquids. The molar volume, vapor pressure, entropy of vaporization and surface tension of the liquid were calculated over a wide temperature range. The critical properties for the liquid were also calculated. The results show good agreement with experimental observations.

  • In this study, the modeling of the transverse connection of fully precast steel-UHPC (Ultra-High-Performance Concrete) lightweight composite bridges were conducted. The transverse connection between precast components plays a critical role in the overall performance and safety of the bridge. To achieve an accurate and reliable simulation of the interface behavior, the cohesive model in ABAQUS was employed, considering both bending-tension and compression-shear behaviors. The parameters of the cohesive model are obtained through interface bending and oblique shear tests on UHPC samples with different surface roughness. By validating the numerical simulation against actual joint tests, the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed model in capturing the interface behavior of the fully precast steel-UHPC lightweight composite bridge were demonstrated.

  • In this study, surfactants were synthesized using fatty alcohols of 8, 10, 12 and 14 carbon chains length. The structures of the synthesized surfactants was confirmed by FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR analysis. The surface tension of the diluted surfactant was measured as 26~32 mN/m depending on the carbon length and the critical micelle concentration was measured as $10^{-3}{\sim}10^{-5}mol/L$.The minimum value per molecule of the synthesized sulfonic acid surfactant is 1.68 to $1.30nm^2$. The physical properties of the synthesized surfactants were determined by measuring the critical micelle concentration, foaming power, emulsifying stability, and contact angle.

  • Anionic surfactants were synthesized by using an sarcosine, taurine and fatty alcohol with varying the carbon chain length. The structure of synthesized surfactants was confirmed by $^1H$ NMR analysis. The critical micelle concentration of the synthetic anionic surfactant was $10^{-2}{\sim}10^{-4}mol/L$ and the surface tension value at the critical micelle concentration was between 21 and 39 mN/m. It was confirmed by the Ross-Miles method that the synthetic surfactant with the carbon chain of 12 showed a good foaming power and stability. In addition, the surfactant using the sacosine was found to have a good affinity in soybean oil while that using taurine in benzene. The physical properties of synthesized surfactants were determined by measuring the critical micelle concentration, foaming power and emulsifying stability.

  • A series of hydrophobically associating fluorinated amphiphilic polyacrylamide copolymers with remarkably high heat resistance and salt tolerance were synthesized by free radical micellar copolymerization, using acrylamide (AM) and sodium 2-acrylamido-tetradecane sulfonate ($AMC_{14}S$) as amphiphilic monomers, and 2-(perfluorooctyl) ethyl acrylate (PFHEA) as hydrophobic monomer. The structure of the terpolymer was characterized by FTIR, $^1H$ NMR and $^{19}F$ NMR. The solution properties of the terpolymers were investigated in details, and the results showed that the terpolymer solution had strong intermolecular hydrophobic association as the concentration exceeded the critical association concentration 1.5 g/L. The terpolymer solution possessed high surface activity, viscoelasticity, excellent heat resistance, salt tolerance and shearing resistance. The viscosity retention rate of copolymer solution was as high as 59.9% under the condition of fresh wastewater, $85^{\circ}C$ and a 60-days aging test.

  • Inkjet technology has various merits as a direct patterning process in plenty of industrial applications, but critical issue such as coffee ring effect should be overcome for the application to an industrial manufacturing process. In this paper, we introduced the morphological analysis of inkjet printed pattrerns on the characristics of inks and substrates. In case of Triethlene Glycol Monoethly Ether based ink, the coffee ring effect was observed. However, an ethanol based ink showed the round shaped morphology under the same printing conditions and surface conditions. An ink consisted of the solvent with high boiling point results in coffee ring effect. This experimental results showed that the morphological change of the printed droplet is caused by the main solvent of ink, rather than the metal content, viscosity and surface tension.

  • In this study, we synthesized reactive surfactant which have functional radical group for effective chemical reaction. Reactive surfactant have been synthesized using synthesis of polyoxyethylene lauryl ether(POE 23) which is nonionic surfactant and methacrylic acid, acrylic acid. benzene was used as the solvent, p-TsOH was used as the catalyst. synthesized surfactant was confirmed by FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR spectra, and elemental analysis. Evaluation of physical properties was measured HLB, cloud point, surface tension, the critical micelle concentration, emulsifying power. HLB number was evaluated 11.62 to 12.09 range. The Critical Micelle Concentration(cmc) values evaluated was $1{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}5{\times}10^{-4}mol/L$ by surface tension method. The cloud point was $35^{\circ}C$, $39^{\circ}C$ each. The emulsifymvcqa ing properties of the synthesized surfactants was lower than polyoxyethylene lauryl ether. In addition, soybean oil was better than benzene. The experimental results confirmed the ester bond, the yield of 93.27%, 94.49% was found.
