Ginseng root has been used as a tonic remedy in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries. Modern studies have demonstrated that ginseng root has complex components and multiple pharmacological properties. The effects of ginseng leaf, however, are not well known. Recent studies show that compared to ginseng root, ginseng leaf and stem exhibit a higher content of active compositions such as ginsenosides, polysaccharides, triterpene flavonoids, volatile oil, polyacetylenic alcohols, peptides, amino acids and fatty acids. Ginseng leaf possesses multiple pharmacological effects in the central nervous, cardiovascular, growth and metabolism systems. Additionally, the leaf has anti-fatigue, anti-hyperglycemic, anti-oxidant, and anti-aged effects. In general, ginseng leaf is quite safe, but adverse effects may occur if it is abused or is of poor quality. Thus, attention must be paid to dosages, quality, and standardization of ginseng leaf products.

This study critically appraised the accumulated articles based on the critical science perspective on Korea's home economics education. The 55 articles published from 1993 to 2011 were identified and placed into three categories: Critical science paradigm, practical problem-focused curriculum, and systems of action. The common result across categories was that some authors did not fully understand the concepts of practice, a practical problem-focused curriculum, the practical reasoning process, and the systems of action. A positive outcome of including a critical science perspective in the Korean national curriculum will be seen when systems supporting this perspective, such as those providing more specific information on a critical science perspective and the relevant textbook accreditation standards, are available. We present a proposal based on considerations of a national curriculum, teacher education, relevant philosophical perspectives, and classroom practice.

Critical illness polyneuropathy (CIP) and critical illness myopathy (CIM) occur commonly in the patients who have been on mechanical ventilation for more than 1 week. Even in some patients diagnosed with CIP, an underlying myopathy may be the primary cause of the muscle weakness. The cormorbid status of CIP and CIM is called as critical illness polyneuropathy and critical illness myopathy (CIPNM). We describe a 56-year-old man with acute quadriparesis and areflexia after systemic inflammatory response syndrome. The diagnosis of CIPNM is important to avoid unnecessary investigations and unreasonably pessimistic prognosis. Electrophysiologic studies are essential for the diagnosis and for planning further clinical management.

Various studies on the critical flow models for sub-cooled and/or saturated water were reviewed, especially on Fauske, Moody, and Henry for basic theoretical models; Zaloudek for insight into physical phenomena for a critical flow in an orifice type flow path; Sozzi & Sutherland for a critical flow test of saturated and sub-cooled water at high pressure for orifice and nozzles; and a Marviken test on a full-scale critical flow test. In addition, critical flow tests of sub-cooled water for the break simulators in integral effect test (IET) facilities were also investigated, and a hybrid concept using Moody's and Fauske's models was considered by the authors. In the comparison of the models for the selected test data, discussions of the effect of the diameters, predictions of the critical flow models, and design aspects of break simulator for SBLOCA scenarios in the IET facilities were presented. In the effect of diameter on the critical flow rate with respect to all dimensional scales, it was concluded that the effect of diameter was found irrespective of diameter sizes. In addition, the diameter effect on slip ratio affecting the critical flow rate was suggested. From a comparison of the critical flow models and selected test data, the Henry-Fauske model of the MARS-KS code was found to be the best model predicting the critical flow rate for the selected test data under study.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to review mobile health (mHealth) interventions based on studies from online databases for community-dwelling patients with heart diseases. Methods : Six databases (RISS, KISS, PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, and SCOPUS) were searched to select studies conducted from January 1 to September 30, 2010. After this, quality appraisals were carried out using the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network checklist and a total of 11 studies were selected. Results : The selected 11 studies included 7 randomized controlled studies, 1 quasi-experimental study and 3 pilot studies. The main components of mHealth interventions included symptom monitoring at home, provisions for individualized messages for health management using text messaging, telephone or smart phone applications, and running websites for symptom monitoring or health education. Intervention periods varied from 6 weeks to 12 months. The findings of the studies suggested that the mHealth interventions were effective in improving self-management of heart diseases, quality of life, and decreasing symptoms. Conclusions : The results of the review suggested that mHealth interventions had positive effects on community-dwelling patients with heart diseases. More mHealth intervention studies need to be conducted in Korea to aid community-dwelling patients with heart diseases.

This study reviews critical literatures regarding Asian cinema, focusing on studies of Japanese cinema, to show that Western scholarship on non-Western national cinemas have been divided into two approaches: traditionalism and modernism. It argues that such a division is not merely a critical tendency but indicative of the fact that a national cinema is an internally divided construct. To support the point, this study examines Chinese film studies conducted by Chinese film critics and the history of South Korean cinema during the 1970s and 80s. Then, it proposes the hegemony model to theorize the inner structure of national cinema. It finally suggests the possibility of comparative film study that the national cinema thesis may activate.

Scholars suggests global citizenship education(GCE) as an important direction for the future education. Although many academic discussions have been internationally going on, the studies in Korea are still on the beginning stage. Thus, it is asserted that studies for GCE should be proceeded more actively and widely, especially for a theoretical background because it might give a concrete direction for GCE. In the international trend, studies suggest that GCE should be discussed among post-modernism, post-colonialism, and critical theory as theoretical framework. So, this study purports to find a theoretical framework which represents those three. It is critical pedagogy (CP) which also includes educational values for GCE. The reason is because CP tries to achieve emancipation in terms of consciousness, reason and rationality through educational praxis and it should be a background for GCE in terns of current situation in the world. Therefore, this study asserts and tries to prove that CP is currently at the center of theoretical backgrounds for GCE.

The main objective of critical excitation methods is to reveal the worst possible response of structures. This goal is accomplished by considering the uncertainties of ground motion, which is subjected to the appropriate constraints, such as earthquake power and intensity limit. The concentration of this current study is on the theoretical optimization aspect, as is the case with the majority of conventional critical excitation methods. However, these previous studies on critical excitation lead to a discontinuous power spectral density (PSD). This paper introduces some critical excitations which contain proper continuity in frequency domain. The main idea for generating such continuous excitations stems from the combination of two continuous functions. On the other hand, in order to provide a non-stationary model, this paper attempts to present an appropriate envelope function, which unlike the previous envelope functions, can properly cover the natural earthquakes' accelerograms based on multi-peak conditions. Finally, the proposed method is developed into the multiple-degree-of-freedom (M.D.O.F) structures.

This paper explores the educational method of using films as a means to cultivate critical thinking abilities for engineering students. It provides a practical educational model that elaborates on how films could be used as case studies to draw relevant questions, and in the process of answering them, develop students' ability to think critically. The educational model proposes a learning method of enhancing critical thinking abilities through debates and essay writing on issues raised in films. Furthermore, the paper entails concrete learning objectives on critical thinking education, and standards to evaluate levels of enhancement. Through raising the critical thinking abilities of engineering students, this paper will contribute to the utilization of creative ideas in the process of engineering research. Furthermore, the concept of utilizing films as a model for education used in this study could be adapted for fields other than that of engineering.

Domestic ASP (Application Service Provider) market has been dramatically enlarged under government supports for last 10 years. However ASP industry recently has been troubled for poor performance and market saturation. In this paper, firstly I derive core service groups through using BCG matrix for ASP market size and growth rate and secondly generate major critical success factors using focused group interview for selected core service groups. Finally I would like to propose a direction of ASP industry revitalization based on above critical success factors and transition strategy to SaaS (Software as a Service).
