  • The steady-static creep behaviors of Ti-6Al-4V alloy, using the constant stress creep tester, were investigated over the temperature range of $510{\sim}550^{\circ}C$(0.42~0.44Tm) and the stress range of 200~275 MPa($20.41{\sim}28.06kg/mm^2$). The stress exponents(n) for the static creep deformation of this alloy were 9.85, 9.35, 9.24 and 8.85 at the temperature of 510, 525, 535 and $550^{\circ}C$, respectively. The stress exponent(n) decreased with increasing the temperature and became close to about 5. The apparent activation energies(Q) for the static creep deformation were 254.4, 241.8, 234.4 and 221.9 kJ/mole for the stress of 200, 225, 250 and 275MPa, respectively. The activation energy(Q) decreased with increasing the stress. From the above results, it can be concluded that the static creep deformation for Ti-6Al-4V alloy was controlled by the dislocation climb over the ranges of the experimental conditions. Larson-Miller Parameter(P) for the crept specimens of Ti-6Al-4V alloy under the static creep conditions was obtained as $P=(T+460)({\log}\;t_r+21)$. The failure plane observed by SEM showed up dimple phenomenon at all range.

  • Ground settlements and pore pressure changes were monitored around a shallow tunnel constructed in clay till during the excavation and primary lining installation. The settlements above the tunnel continued to develop for up to 100 days after the primary lining installation. Triaxial compression tests were carried out to estimate the short-term and long-term deformation characteristics of the till. Numerical simulation was conducted to history match the field measurements, and thus, to quantify the settlements induced by ground stress relief, consolidation and creep. It was found that the surface settlements due to ground stress relief, consolidation and creep are 17, 12 and 71% of total settlement (about 44 mm), respectively. In addition, early installation of rigid concrete lining could be an effective means to reduce the settlement due to creep.

  • Recently, several high-tensile steels(e.g. 80kg and above, $2^{1/4}Cr$-1Mo)having good quality to high temperature and pressure-resistance are widely used to construct petroleum-plant and pressure vessel of heat or nuclear-power plant. However, in the steels, reheating crack at grain boundaries of the heat affected zone(HAZ) occures during post welding heat treatment(PWHT)to remove welding residual stress. In order to study theoretically the characteristics of reheating crack created by PWHT, the computer program of three-dimensional thermal-elasto-plasto-creep analysis based on finite element method are developed, and then the mechanical behavior(history of creep strain accumulation and stress relaxation, etc)of welded join in thick plate during PWTH is clarified by the numerical results.

  • Mg alloy is the lightest material of structural materials and is noticed for lightweight automotive parts because of excellent castability, superior ductility and damping capacity than Al alloy. But Mg Alloy is poor corrosion resistance and high temperature creep properties. In this study, Mg Matrix Composites were fabricated by squeeze casting method to improve high temperature creep properties and damping capacity. Hybrid Mg composites reinforced with Alborex, graphite particle, and SiCp was improved creep properties and damping capacity compared with Mg alloy. Compared to the length ($9\mu\textrm{m}, 27\mu\textrm{m}, 45\mu\textrm{m} etc.$), Hybrid Mg composites reinforced with SiCp, one of the most superior of the length and Alborex were more superior than those reinforced with graphite particle and Alborex in mechanical properties, creep characteristics, and damping capacity, etc.

  • A rational and simple analytical model to predict the time varying cracking moment of reinforced concrete sections under sustained loading is developed. The modeling procedure is based on equilibrium and compatibility requirements and takes into account the interdependent effects of creep and shrinkage as well as the presence of axial loading. A parametric study is conducted in which particular consideration is given to the effects of reinforcement ratio, level of loading, and creep and shrinkage characteristics of concrete. It is concluded that the reduction in cracking moment is mainly attributed to shrinkage. The effect of shrinkage is more pronounced at low levels of sustained loading and at high reinforcement ratios. This effect is lessened by the compression steel and creep particularly when the applied moment is near the cracking moment.

  • Creep tests of the TiC particulate reinforced Al composite have been conducted in the temperature ranges from 200 to $500^{\circ}C$. The steady-state cree rate of the composite depended strongly on the temperature and ap' plied stress. The stress exponent for the steady state creep rate of the composites was approximately 17.5 and the activation anergy was calculated to be 390KJ/mol. The steady-state creep equation could be written as $\acute{\varepsilon}_{ss}$ $$(s^{-1})=1.5{\times}10^{-9}\;{\sigma}^{17.5}\exp(-390000/RT)$$. Fracture surface examination showed that the fracture mode of the particulate reinforced composite was ductile by plastic tearing of the aluminum matrix and TiC particle interfaces were offered as sites for crack.

  • Controlling the friction between wheel and rail is direct and very effective measures to improve the curving performances of railway trucks, because the curving performances depend much on friction characteristics. Authors have proposed a method, 'friction control', which utilizes friction modifier ($KELTRACK^{TM}$ HPF) with onboard spraying system. With the method, not only friction coefficient, but also friction characteristics can be controlled as expected. In this study, MBD simulation is very valuable tool to foresee the effect of the control in advance of experiment with real car. And the creep characteristics of wheel/rail contact with the friction modifier takes very important role in the simulation. In this paper, authors propose a theoretical model of wheel/rail contact condition considering the creep characteristics of friction modifier, which is derived the application of principle tribological theories.

  • This paper is to study the characteristics of axial force behavior that operates to the part of turnout when it makes the turnout and the continuous welded rail unifying. The study is to model by using the 50kgN rail No. 15 turnout used in the domestic national railway and the UIC60 rail No. 18 turnout used in the rapid transit railway as the finite elements for analyzing the axial force behavior of the turnout by the continuous welded rail. It is to analyze the characteristics of behavior according to the change of creep resistance, ballast resistance and the change of parameter valuables of heel joint by the axial force simulation in making the continuous welded rail and then, it is to present the result. As the result of research on the parameter valuables through the analysis, it shows that the maximum axial force of turnout by the continuous welded rail are largely subordinated to the maximum resistance of heel joint and the fitting devices than the ballast resistance. Also it shows that the maximum axial force produced changes a lot according to the characteristics of creep resistance of the fitting part and the ballast resistance.

  • Due to the latitudinal location of Korea, the seasonally frozen ground has been focused on as research topics such as the frost heaving under the asphalt road rather than the permafrost ground. However, the recent construction of the second Korean Antarctic research station, the Jangbogo station and the participation on the development of the natural gas pipeline in Russia arouse the research interests on the behavior of the permafrost ground. At the design process of the geotechnical structures on the permafrost ground, the evaluation of the creep characteristics of the frozen soil is very crucial. Since the domestic specification on the frozen soil testing does not exist currently, it is necessary to evaluate the creep characteristics of frozen soils systematically with regard to the affecting factors. Therefore, the creep characteristics of the frozen specimens of dense Jumoonjin sand were evaluated under various loads at -5 and $-10^{\circ}C$. Based on the test results, as the load became close to the strength and the temperature became lower, the duration of the secondary creep became shorter and more distinct tertiary creep responses were observed.

  • The effects of duplex-treatment of plasma carburization and CrN coating onto Ti-6Al-4V alloy on its creep properties were investigated by means of a constant stress creep tester. Applying duplex-treatment, specimens having an inner carburized layer of about $150{\mu}m$ in depth and outer CrN layer of about $7.5{\mu}m$ in thickness were prepared. The hardness of duplex-treatment surface was about 1,960 VHN. It also appeared that the duplex-treatment improved the roughness of the surface significantly; $Ra=0.045{\mu}m$ for treated alloy while $Ra=0.321{\mu}m$ for untreated alloy. The steady-state creep behaviors were investigated in a temperature range of $510{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ ($0.42{\sim}0.44T_m$) under an applied stress range of 200~275 MPa. The stress exponent, n, was derived assuming the power law creep behavior. The surface treatment showed a decrease in a value from 9.32 (untreated) to 8.79 (treated). Also the activation energy obtained from an Arrhenius plot increased from 238 to 257 kJ/mol.
