A fast and simplified crack width quantification method via deep Q learning

  • Crack width is an important indicator to evaluate the health condition of the concrete structure. The crack width is measured by manual using crack width gauge commonly, which is time-consuming and laborious. In this paper, we have proposed a fast and simplified crack width quantification method via deep Q learning and geometric calculation. Firstly, the crack edge is extracted by using U-Net network and edge detection operator. Then, the intelligent decision of is made by the deep Q learning model. Further, the geometric calculation method based on endpoint and curvature extreme point detection is proposed. Finally, a case study is carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, achieving high precision in the real crack width quantification.

  • This paper describes a calculation of an average crack spacing and the maximum crack width for the high-strength concrete tensile and flexural members. Based on the uniform bond stress distribution of the average steel and concrete strains over the transfer length, the crack spacing and the crack width are proposed to utilize influence of the concrete strength and the cover thickness. This analytical results presented in this paper indicate that the proposed equations can be more effectively estimated the maximum crack width and the average crack spacing of the reinforced concrete flexural and tensile members.

Crack width control of precast deck loop joints for continuous steel-concrete composite girder bridges

  • Precast deck joints have larger crack width than cast-in-place concrete decks. The initial crack typically occurs at the maximum moment but cracks on precast joints are significant and lead to failure of the deck. The present crack equation is applied to cast-in-place decks, and requires correction to calculate the crack width of precast deck joints. This research aims to study the crack width correction equation of precast decks by performing static tests using high strength and normal strength concrete. Based on experimental results, the bending strength of the structural connections of the current precast deck is satisfied. However it is not suitable to calculate and control the crack width of precast loop connections using the current design equation. A crack width calculation equation is proposed for crack control of precast deck loop joints. Also included in this paper are recommendations to improve the crack control of loop connections.

  • A method is described for predicting crack with and spacing in Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete (SFRC). The crack behavior of SFRC influenced by longitudinal reinforcement ratio, volume and type of steel fiber, strength of concrete. It can be observed from experimental results that addition of steel fiber to reinforced concrete beam reduces crack width in serviceability limit states. The proposed method predicts crack widths in cracking stage of the beam. Calculated crack widths obtained for reinforced concrete beams and different volume and type of steel fiber, strength of concrete showed good agreement with experimental results.

  • 이 논문은 철근콘크리트 구조부재의 사용성능 검증을 위한 균열폭과 처짐을 산정할 수 있는 새로운 계산 방법을 제안하고 이를 자동으로 계산할 수 있는 프로그램을 개발한 것이다. 이를 위하여 콘크리트의 재료특성을 포물-사각형 응력-변형률 곡선으로 반영한 철근응력과 피복두께의 영향을 반영한 인장증강 계수를 이용한 곡률을 계산할 수 있는 수치 모델링을 실시하였다. 이와 함께 균열폭과 처짐을 계산하는데 필요한 인장증강효과와 유효인장단면적은 균열이 발생한 휨부재 단면의 인장영역을 인장 현재로 이상화하여 정의하였다. 그리고 수정된 인장증강 계수를 이용하여 유효곡률을 계산하였다. 제안된 균열폭과 처짐 산정 방법을 이용하여 여러 연구자들이 수행한 실험 자료를 계산한 결과, 현행 설계기준들의 규정보다 실험값을 비교적 정확하게 예측하는 것으로 나타났다.

  • 6m-6m의 2경간 연속합성보에 대한 실험적 연구를 수행하였다. 유로코드에서 제시하고 있는 균열폭 제어 규정의 근거를 살펴보고 인장강화 효과를 고려한 균열상태에 따른 균열폭 계산식 유도과정을 제시하였다. 부모멘트 인장을 받는 바닥판의 거동을 초기균열, 안정화 균열로 나누어서 연속합성보의 거동을 평가하였다. 실험결과로부터 연성 기준을 만족하는 최소철근비는 현재 도로교설계기준보다 낮춰도 될 것으로 판단된다. 균열을 일으킨 연속합성보의 휨강성 평가에서는 안정화균열 이전단계까지는 비균열단면으로 보는 것이 적절하다. 인장철근의 응력과 균열폭의 관계식을 실험결과를 이용하여 제시하였다.

  • 이 논문은 철근콘크리트 휨부재의 균열폭과 처짐 계산에 대한 해석적 모델을 제안한 것이다. 균열 안정화단계에서 철근과 콘크리트 경계면에서 발생하는 실제와 유사한 형태의 부착응력-미끌림 관계와 인장증강효과를 수치적으로 유도한 후, 균열과 균열 사이에서 철근의 매입길이 방향으로 발생하는 철근과 콘크리트의 변형률 차이가 균열면으로 누적되는 양을 계산할 수 있는 평형방정식을 이용하였다. 이로부터 두 재료의 변형량 차이로부터 평균 균열폭을 계산할 수 있는 모델과 인장증강효과를 반영한 철근의 평균변형률과 모멘트-곡률 관계를 도입하여 처짐을 계산하는 모델을 제안하였다. 이렇게 정식화된 새로운 균열폭 및 처짐 모델을 기존 문헌에 발표된 여러 연구자들의 실험자료에 적용하여 그 정확성을 검증한 결과, 제안식에 의한 예측값은 현재 사용되고 있는 여러 설계기준의 사용성 규정으로 계산한 결과와 비교할 때 실험값을 비교적 정확하게 예측하는 것으로 나타났다.

  • The crack of concrete structure plays an important role in the durability and safety of structure. Therefore, the features such as width, length, and direction of that must be measured periodically. The conventional method of measurement of cracks is manually sketched, however. it takes a fairly long time and lacks quantitative objectivity. This study proposes the algorithm to extract and analyze cracks automatically. The proposed algorithm is composed of two sub-algorithms. The extraction algorithm includes elimination of effect due to light, binarization. and noise reduction. The analysis algorithm includes thinning process, labeling, and calculation of crack width, length, and direction. The test to demonstrate the algorithm is fulfilled using the images of cracks on real concrete surface.

Instantaneous and time-dependent flexural cracking models of reinforced self-compacting concrete slabs with and without fibres

  • Self-compacting concrete (SCC) can be placed and compacted under its own weight with little or no compaction. It is cohesive enough to be handled without segregation or bleeding. Modifications in the mix design of SCC may significantly influence the material's mechanical properties. Therefore, it is vital to investigate whether all the assumed hypotheses about conventional concrete (CC) are also valid for SCC structures. The aim in this paper is to develop analytical models for flexural cracking that describe in appropriate detail the observed cracking behaviour of the reinforced concrete flexural one way slabs tested. The crack width and crack spacing calculation procedures outlined in five international codes, namely Eurocode 2 (1991), CEB-FIP (1990), ACI318-99 (1999), Eurocode 2 (2004), and fib-Model Code (2010), are presented and crack widths and crack spacing are accordingly calculated. Then, the results are compared with the proposed analytical models and the measured experimental values, and discussed in detail.
